I know the graphics are PS2-quality, the characters are ugly, the controls can't be customised, the voices are obnoxious, it runs at 30FPS, there are only two modes, the online server is a zombie at best activity and quality-wise, the soundtrack is cheap synth, the animations are reused, it has intrusive MTX at £60, the publisher has violated the Geneva Convention 20 times in one month, and some of the most popular characters from the source material are absent but the MECHANICS ARE BETTER I SWEAR

I just had the best Nick Brawl quickplay battle - a clear mismatch, me as Nigel and foe as SpongeBob. The SpongeBob bodied me constantly, but we kept rematching and rematching, I was intent to not DC unless I won or the SpongeBob DC'd, after my first win I decided to try for 3 wins instead... and I got a 3 win streak! If the guy who was playing against me is reading this, GG.

Honestly I think TV shows; comics; and movies are better to base fighting game characters on than other non-fighting games - it's harder, A LOT harder, but since the characters don't have any pre-existing mechanics that means you can develop a playstyle around the character rather than a character around the playstyle.

If Mario Kart was to become Nintendo Kart, I would want non-scrimblo-ey series' more jokey or scrimblo-ey characters to take emphasis. So King Hippo instead of Little Mac, Lappy instead of Officer Howard, toon versions of the Zelda characters, so on.

Note that this does not say "Jimmy Neutron vs. Jimmy Negatron", it says "Nickelodeon's The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius vs. Jimmy Negatron", implying Jimmy Negatron is fighting the producers of the show itself - presumably over name defamation, in what is at best a Gabriella Capra situation and at worst a Kenneth Lamar Noid situation.

I kinda wish Nintendo were more willing to create "obvious" Mario characters - I don't know if that makes sense, but basically characters created under the same logic as Waluigi.
"if there's a King Boo there's gotta be a Queen Boo!"
"If there's Chain Chomp why aren't there Chain Chews?"
"The Toads have an elder, let's give the Yoshis one in Yoshworth!"
"Rosalina is a space goddess, right? How about a sea or underground goddess as the Daisy to her Peach?"

The box art of NASB feels really haphazardly placed, so here's my crude take on a version that emphasises the popular copy-selling shows. Note that SpongeBob would be in front of everyone except R&S, he's only behind Lincoln and Zim because of a lack of PNG transparency. Not exactly as visually appealing as the real box art, but I really can't wrap my head around how April, Oblina, and PTM made the box art.

I don't think modern Smash needs Melee movement to be good per say, but it does need to either A. provide and prioritise better movement options, preferably ones that would be accessable to casual players and useful for hardcore players, or B. create a more strategic gameplay style that justifies a low speed

I feel level skips in Mario games (and platformers in general) are a weird holdover from the time before save files. Before save files, you wanted to get the least out of a game and beat it quick; but now we live in an age where save files are common and you want to get the most out of a game - leaving level skips as more an unfortunate discovery than a magical secret.

It's so weird how Mario characters tend to be more fluidly animated in Happy Meal/board game ads than their own games. I assume it's because those ads are outsourced to American studios, and American cartoons tend to focus on fluid movement with simple objects while Japanese anime prefers to get the most out of a smaller amount of frames.
