Not to get political but....
If you have ever seen any Among Us meme, you’d probably have heard of “The Among Us Musical.” Created for the cut Youtube Rewind: 2020, it is supposed to represent the game of Among Us in the way of a musical. Though it is heavily disliked as stupid or annoying by most fans of the game, it is actually a funny, yet accurate description of the game.
Line 1-2: “Lift the dream, come and stream, / till your following is just humongous!” - In the first lines of the book, the main singer (who, in the cut version of the full musical, is revealed to represent the streamer “Pokimane”) talks about how Among Us has blown up. Many people have gotten much more popularity by streaming the game, as it is such a big hit.
Line 10-11: “What did you see when the body was found? / Toast acting sus with no one around!” ~ This line, while more straightforward then the other one, still proves a point on how the game works. You ask where the body was to see if you know someone who was there beforehand, that could’ve easily killed the person. This line is also the one and only line of the musical to use the overly-memed word “sus”, short for suspicious.
Line 11-12: “I was in Comms, I was with AOC! / Oh, don't you dare marinate me!” ~ Not only does this line use the exceptional vocabulary word of “marinate”, but it also references two other things. The first one being the only location truly mentioned in this, being “Comms”. Though it is a nickname for “Communications”, that isn’t the main focus of this quote. It also references “AOC”. Though it may seem like this is just a random string of letters, this is actually one of the most deepest quotes. AOC is the nickname of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. Though it might seem to be a funny reference to the politician, the reason why they bring her up is that she has played Among Us before. It isn’t uncommon to see someone who has played Among Us, but it is uncommon for an Among Us stream to get over 400,000 members. Who knew that three letters could have such a deeper meaning to the musical?
Line 12-15: “Oh, don't you dare marinate me! / I don’t like the sound of that. / Scheming, streaming, Time to eject! / Unanimous vote: Dr. DisRespect!” ~ These lines have a lot of different meaning to them. The most obvious one being the character reveal of Dr. DisRespect, another popular Among Us streamer. The 12th line, or “Oh, don't you dare marinate me!”, was a response to the character Toast, who claims to be “in Comms with AOC,” the line before. AOC’s furious response, combined with the remark of “I don’t like the sound of that,” prove that Toast is in a pretty bad situation. However, when the voting comes, zero people voted for Toast. The unanimous vote went to Dr. DisRespect, some not even talked about in the meeting. This is a small reference to the meme of “Skip! Skip! Vote [blank]!”. After the clear-cut decision to eject Toast, they pull a 180 and vote Dr. DisRespect.
Stanza 3: “I’ve been banished, without reason!” - “No matter what!” ~ Due to this being a lot longer of a quote, as it is an entire stanza, I just previewed the first of the last quote of this stanza. However, the main point of this section of the musical is to get revenge on the ones who vote them out. This is shown when Dr. DisRespect talks about how, “I’ll be back with violence, momentum, and speed.” Even though he might not be able to do anything whilst ejected, besides tasks, he still plots his revenge in a way. This also connects into real life, as people get pretty angry when they get voted out “without reason.”
“The Among Us Musical” might be stupid, but it does have some quirks. It’s metaphorical meanings have more value than most songs that you probably listen to, though it’s catchy and it gets stuck inside of your head. Overall, “The Among Us Musical” is a funny watch, and you can see the link to it below.
