Another thing I really like about knowing video game sales is that sometimes it’s really shocking finding out a game from another region is way more successful than you’d think.

Like for example I recently found out about the KartRider series from South Korea, most people in north america probably haven’t heard of it and it did poorly here but it had over 380 accounts made for it. It’s a free game but still a “mario kart rip off racer” having more than 5 times the sales of mario kart 8 is impressive

I feel like at least a handful of smash characters technically debuted in a demo disc and not their own game. You could probably be really annoying about correcting people about their debuts if you wanted to.

I was looking through a city I used to live in on google maps and I remember someone saying a diner was run by a cult. I look at reviews and I love how every one said “yeah they’re run by a cult but this is the best damn food I’ve ever had in my life”

I like knowing video game sales numbers because even though they’re flawed they give a good picture of the games industry, but there seems to be a big amount of people who will just deny that a game did well if it has massive sales numbers.

For example, Horizon Zero Dawn sold 20 million copies which is ridiculously huge (more sales than the best selling game on the best selling console) but people still accuse it of being an industry plant series or being wrongfully pushed by Sony. I’ve heard people say it only sold that well because it was bundled with the PS4 which somehow makes it irrelevant now and I just can’t understand being so incurious about the games industry.

I’ve seen a lot of smash fans say jigglypuff should be cut from the roster because her reasons for being a character in Smash 64 are “outdated”. Specifically saying she was only in that game because her moveset was easy to make, people only like her in the modern games because of that moveset, and that she wouldn’t be in smash if it weren’t for her legacy in the first game.

That all applies to captain falcon too but no one talks about cutting him, justice for jigglypuff

Somehow my broken phone battery resulted in a more embarrassing story. I was about to send a presentation to a professor because I had previously sent it to the wrong email address of hers but my phone kept turning off so everyone sat there for like 5 minutes as I kept trying to send it as my phone keeps turning off

My phone (which is only two months old mind you) has a glitch where it randomly powers off every once and a while and today I was taking the bus and trying to scan my bus pas on it when it powered off. The hater ass bus driver thought I did that just to get a free ride and after I told him abour the glitch he asks to take my phone to “see what’s wrong” and immediately just turns it back on and gives it back to me. I then go to the transit app and it shuts down again and I must have looked like the most pathetic man in the world as he said “just have a seat” and I walked onto the bus, defeated.

I’ve watched a moderate amount of the simpsons before but no bits from the show that I saw stood out to me as particularly memorable or funny the way other cartoons I saw as a kid were. Now I keep on getting clips from the show reccomended to me on youtube and they’re absolutely great bits I would remember that I don’t even think I’ve seen anybody actually talk about. maybe I just wasn’t paying attention enough.

Two things can be true about the game awards at the same time:
1. Their nominees really don’t matter, the show has no authority, and people pay way too much attention to them
2. The game awards are reaching Super Bowl numbers of viewership and they do matter to a lot of people in the industry so it’s not like someone’s wrong for wanting to pay attention to them

I read Wanted, the collection of short stories the creator of one piece wrote before making one piece. What’s really interesting to me is that most of the stories were made with the intention of having a big two page spread and a story building to it, which is a cool way of envisioning writing stories, having a big moment envisioned first and imagining a story building to it. Gives a lot of context to one piece as a story and how it was written too.

I feel like for a lot of people in the west if they hear Spanish (the language) their first thought will be Latin America but there’s still some understanding that it’s tied to country of Spain. But if someone talks about Portuguese NOBODY thinks of Portugal at all and not just Brazil. Duolingo even has the flag of Spain to represent Spanish and the flag of Brazil to represent Portuguese. I watched a walking tour of the nintendo land at universal japan yesterday and I really don’t know what people were expecting for the DK area. The Mario area is basically just one square and pretty much everything takes inspiration from either 3D World or Mario Kart 8. That’s not to say it’s bad, it’s just that if the Mario area doesn’t even reference the retro Mario games heavily why would you believe the DK area would?
