Both are fallen heroes who became villains and are owned by two rivaling companies, Darth Vader is owned by Disney and Liu Kang is owned by Warner Bros. Darth Vader went from hero to villain in the original Star Wars Trilogy, and Liu Kang was once a hero when he originally debuted in the first Mortal Kombat game, but he and his arch-rival Kung Lao later became villains in Mortal Kombat II. Of course, just brutally killing/destroying your opponents for the evulz should automatically make all those kombatants villainous.

• Master Core’s three forms would also be exclusive to WoL, being fought in the Final Battle area
• Galeem and Dharkon would be WoL-only, and every other boss would be fought in Story Mode and WoL

In Smash 4, a new tradition was established where at least if not more than one or two assist trophies from the previous installment get promoted to playable characters. That said HWYR if Robot Chicken made a sketch, where Waluigi (Mario), Shovel Knight, Bomberman, and Shadow (Sonic) get promoted to playable, and Goku (Dragon Ball), Miku (Vocaloid), William (Five Night's At Freddy's), and Dark Magician (Yu-Gi-Oh!) get assist trophies spirits and mii costumes. William is another notoriously hateable videogame character.
