Super Smash Bros 3DS: For Glory 1 vs 1 Yoshi vs M…: http://youtu.be/uS7tYEG2sAQ

No player names but this Yoshi does rather well in a marth match up (albeit not a great marth) but shows how to approach a counter spammer rather well.

Hope it helps a bit

Yeah there's really no videos of me except the one against Nairo from the tourney. The only other ones you may find are ones my friend uploads from friendlies we play and idk how often he does that. He only uploads ones where he wins so it's not worth it unless you wanna see Yoshi lose.

Also, I don't own a Japanese 3DS Slush o:

This is an interesting tech skill/exploit with Yoshi. I can see some competitive usage out of this.

I dunno about Denti.
I honestly think the current best matches to look at is the Sonic vs Yoshi one anything Raptor for now cause he's the only brawl Yoshi vet that has a hold of the Japanese game and playing at the incredibly active NY/NJ area so he'll have like 4 or 5 Smash4 tournaments/smashfests a week, and any Zude matches which kudemo is kind enough to provide us these past few years for us to keep up with his crazy Yoshi.

Edit: Nikes you should put the name of the person and character so we can know who we're watching. Or at least the person who's playing Yoshi.
Yeah my Day 1 Yoshi doesnt count. I main Sheik now. I do think Yoshi is around top 3 in the game. But Sheik is the best imo.

Yoshi is so much fun. He is still my second best character.

No, it was a Biweekly at The Gaming Zone in Tempe.

Here you guys go:

[SFA] Ja3 vs [SFA] SS - Yoshi vs Ness (Loser's Quarters)
[SFA] Ja3 vs [SFA] Wafty - Yoshi vs Wario (Grand Finals, but they did a single 2/3 because we had to get back home)
[SFA] Ja3 vs [SFA] Smiley -Yoshi vs Rosalina/Mr. Game & Watch (Loser's Semis)
[SFA] Ja3 vs AZHP K9 - Yoshi vs Jigglypuff/R.O.B/Sheik (Loser's Finals)

There's more matches on that channel but I linked to the high profile matches. If you guys love his Yoshi you should subscribe to that channel and also our Crew channel @ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMNi1nkIpqkfvHOeLlAmLdA

Oh hell, I should have called in for info. It's literally 40 minutes down the road from me. I thought Iconic would be where the stuff was really happening.

Random, but in the loser's quarters 25 seconds in look at that dash grab. It got ness even tho he was pulling back with side-b. That's hilarious.
Also wow, he threw his 3ds after losing. Guess he really doesn't wanna play Smash 4.

In all honesty, I felt like the opponents in the loser's quarters and semis were better than the Yoshi player. Nothing really wowed me until he started playing against the tink and jiggly.

I think it's cause it felt like he was just throwing out moves and hoping they would hit while he was being too greedy for kill moves. Wasn't until Loser's Finals/GF when he started getting combo strings and playing a bit better. Such a change in playstyle from those two matches to loser's/GF that it felt like I was watching another Yoshi player all of a sudden.

Wow, I need to get back to updating this thread pretty badly, been slightly distracted with the new game and haven't been doing my job very well here.

Idk if anyone's interested in watching me under-performing but I'll put this here anyhow. http://www.twitch.tv/kaizmo/b/576640593 1:21:01 Vs Sheik. We had a mini tourney that's had to be postponed until next Friday where we'll stream the rest of the tournament then. I'm in the finals so I'll have an opportunity then to possibly record some Yoshi techs and hopefully compile them into something.

That second match 1:09 in you both used the same moves twice but facing the other way along with 1:47 an usmash dodged the other Yoshi's d-tilt lol.
Somehow as well, 2:19 Dtilt hit above him

As for wut to do, better to spam USmash over Fsmash, stop throwing out kill moves at low %'s and just use eggs and aerials to tack on damage. Stop being too greedy for the kill cause you're missing almost every kill move when the opponent is over 100+% and you're getting punished for it (3rd match 2:27 for example) just wait to see what they do before following up, more Dash attack too it's a really good move to use this time around.

You also need to learn how to catch onto the habits players do so you can get more punishes, for this kinda example almost everytime he was in the air he B-reversed or Eggtossed (dunno if call it Wavebounce, or just the regular ET since new momentum and all so can't really tell since I do not own the game until Wii u)

Will say that as he played more matches, the more fast and aggressive the green Yoshi started playing, but faster means more jumps in the air and more instances I count b-reverses lol. I think the 5th match alone (not counting eggtosses) I counted 17 or so attempts/actual B-reverses the Yoshi did.

Your Yoshi's already looking really nice and crisp Courage, me likes :)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4r-Y88-XhPE
The video isn't that good and I don't worry about the software (partially because I couldn't get it working), but take a look at what this guy does to record his 3DS. I've tried it and it works well because you don't have to worry about shaky hands/camera or lighting problems. (The vid makes it look like there are lighting problems but it's actually fine.)
You might get better results by turning down your 3DS brightness setting.

Not the best example I could've done but here's something I recorded using that technique:
(egg spike :D ) Still really fuzzy and all unfortunately but it's something.

Thanks. I've been playing with TrueBlue a lot too. Sonic feels like a really hard matchup if you don't play it right. He's incredibly hard to catch and we have less tools to stop him than we did in brawl. That and he has reliable kill options from spin dash and throw.

Hey guys, got back from a streamed tourney last night. Does anyone want to take a look at my sets and see what went wrong? Had some nice momentum at a few points but lost it all by getting predictable.

http://www.twitch.tv/azprojectmelee/b/580235695
VS. K9 (Yoshi vs Shiek/Jiggly) at 49:48
VS. Freean (Yoshi vs ROB) at 1:53:40

The stream had the wrong game audio for a while. No big deal, though.

A few things I noticed

I didn't see alot of oos options that would have been good to use, you mostly would drop you shield then attack or spot dodge into a attack. oos nair is amazing when they hit your shield, you can also jump away oos if the pressure is too much.

When recovering try to throw eggs onto the stage, this clears a path for you to get back on and makes it harder for them to punish you for trying to recover. Then mix it up with different aerials like you have been doing. It just seemed like you would always try to hit them with a aerial when you got knocked off stage, and they would just shield then punish.

I noticed you would approach with a aerial and they would always just shield then punish you for it. Try mixing it up by approaching with egg lays/ B-reverse egg lays. It will make them think twice about shielding when you approach.

Try zoning more with eggs, it will force your opponent to approach you more often and they usually do more predictable things, allowing you to punish with a aerial or grab.

Also try to save your smash attacks for kills or when you know with no doubt that they will land. It seemed like when your opponent would get around 80% you would start throwing out random smashes and they started punishing you for it.

Wow your yoshi is ballsy. Try to work on setting up for more follow ups. I think it might help your game out a little bit. Not that there's really anything wrong with what you do, but i think our followup pressure is really strong so we shpuld abuse it every once in a while

By ballsy you mean reckless? If so then, i guess i couldn't argue. I'm still working on being smarter and safer.

I would appreciate any specific critique.

Well yeah lol. It's not really a bad thing though. Like vs Ike when you shield drop dash upsmashed him out of recovery. That was ballsy. It was low risk high reward but it was still a pretty ballsy option ya know? Well I guess I can critique a bit.

General Stuff About Your Playstyle
  • Dsmash is your panic button I noticed. When you have a sticky situation you tend to do it. Just something to keep in mind.( I reccomend a dash attack if you're panicing lol)
  • Work on your jab followups, because in general you tend to dsmash out of it. This early its hard to say what the best options are, but dtilt/jab2 leads to better followups, and down b does more damage just for a place to start
  • You egged once to position yourself for a spike. Do that more. It's really good lol. I think it might combo depending on spacing/percent
  • I might be wrong but some of your shield grabs were supposed to be nair oos? I think when you hit jump and attack at the same time, the attack is the only thing that registers. If not that just means you actually hit attack before jump.
  • Our new double jump makes down b a viable landing while we're getting juggled. While ZSS was spamming up air, you could have double jumped out of up air range, and then down b'd her. It works, like don't get baited into it or anything, but it works.
  • Yoshi has one of the WORST landing lags after airdodging. I also feel like we get the lag even if we could move before landing. It's like Smash4s version of his shield. Sometimes Avoid it in general unless the hit you're about to take could kill you.
  • Still debateable, but I don't actually think its worth chasing ZSS into the air. Eggs and waiting for landing tends to work out better. At most you wanna short hop, don't go deep for things.
  • The punish for zss hopping off your shield with down b is either oos nair or bair. I'd go with nair because its easiest to hit.
  • Your Yoshi is super duper mobile i love it
  • You pick really good options at neutral
  • Your egglay picks are really good and i like the dair followups i saw once or twice, Literally never thought of it.
  • Your general understanding of Yoshi is really good. Like there weren't any huge flaws. You play fine I enjoy watching your Yoshi. Its like 10xcuter than mine

You can remove dodge landing lag at that weird "I can act but I get lag if I land" time by autocanceling Bair as you land. Try shorthop airdodge -> canceled Bair -> Ftilt. It's fun.

Two more games vs Sheik this time

Hound(Yoshi) vs Master Raven(Sheik) - 1/4: http://youtu.be/EaBM2GwG8c0
Hound(Yoshi) vs Master Raven(Sheik) - 2/4: http://youtu.be/YAaIbvd8dyk

One thing I see myself doing a lot is almost auto going for the spike and loosing stage control in the event I miss. Could use that opportunity to catch a landing or option back onto stage...or just throw eggs. Pretty much a noob habit i broke a long time in brawl but it came back probably because of how Yoshi's fair is better overall. Gotta keep that in mind.

Looks like you played against dakpo fine. If anything guess you just needed to VI better, throw a bit more eggs (short hop, she's fast enough to run under them and punish if grounded Egg tosses), stop doing what half the other Yoshi's are doing with DownB'ing back to stage, and because of all the buffs ZSS got and our Bair spam (which was good in this MU) is gone, we prolly need to use Dair Egglay Egg roll or Fair more often to beat out most of ZSS's moves this time around.

Dunno just yet on those cause no clue on the priority for either characters moves but otherwise good games karma. Didn't know you were TX since never seen you at brawl tournaments.

Thanks for the advice! When you say Down B back to stage are you talking about downB'ing to the ledge, or down B'ing on slopes on YI?

Yeah I didn't go to many brawl tourneys, just the local ones we had monthly.

Just meant you using DownB to get back down faster to the stage in general. Not YI:B.

But don't be using that move when the platform is tilted the wrong way. The way Yoshi's Slope shenanigans work (depending on the size of the platform/slope) is that the closer you are to it the more you slide.
So doing it at say the roof of YI:B onto the \ tilted platform you won't go anywhere when you land on it in the middle/top of it unless you aim it at like the edge of the \
