Microsoft applies for patent on TV achievements.

I'm expecting everyone to 100% My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
Next thing you know, Microsoft will keep tabs on the everyday lives of people - not just what they do in the living room - and make an achievement for everything:

- Had breakfast
- Banged your boyfriend/girlfriend
- Took a massive ****
- Left the house
- Became our *****

Honestly, Foamy (Ill Will Press) hit the nail on the head bullseye when he addressed this in a video years ago.

Man I remember back in the day when Call of Duty was enough game to last every 360/PS3 user years.

It never lasted past a year . . . with a new one released every year, people would try getting it asap. Since it takes two years to develop a new CoD game, there isn't enough time to put in years and years worth of content in it.

In my opinion, they need to release one big CoD game, and then take some time off so that they can make a brand new engine for this gen. (Modifying an existing engine does not make it a new engine. When you build it from the ground up, then you can call it a new engine.)

Unfortunately, they are mostly casual gamers and are having a tough time distinguishing between a "casual" and anything else. I never called them that, but I simply said the reason I would look forward more to the PS4 is because I know Sony will continue putting out more exclusives that are good, where MS is stuck with Halo and Gears of War.

Granted, MS did say they will have 14 new IPs, but I'm skeptical on what kinda games they will be. They can be interesting, or they can be Kinect Dance Off Extreme!

Not sure if I've ever been so bored with a new console reveal in my life.

I'm not even sure if my loyalty to the Halo and Gears series will be enough to warrant a purchase... We'll have to wait and see but needless to say I'm extremely disappointed with what I've seen from the new Xbox so far. Hell even the name is a letdown... Xbox One? That was really the best Microsoft could come up with?

Honestly, the name isn't my biggest gripe. If anyone remembers, people complained about the Wii's name, made fun of it, made short-lived memes on it, and then people cried foul at the lack of creativity in the name of the Wii U. What does bother me is everything else surrounding the console. Oh, my mistake, surrounding the "entertainment system" or "center", or whatever they call it.

To be perfectly fair, the Wii U was a terrible name, as some people still don't understand the difference between it and a regular Wii.

I just don't get why these companies insist on making entertainment centers that can do everything. Just show me the games, as I could care less about everything else.

I have never met someone who bought an Xbox or PlayStation just so they could watch Netflix on it.

While I'm not interested in Xbone and their Collar Duty deal with early DLC, I'm going to still wait before passing judgment until after E3. 1 is because they might've gotten all the bad stuff out of the way so they can have a smooth E3 presentation as much as possible. If everyone remembers Nintendo's E3 last year, a decent portion was talking about Miiverse (I'm glad they limited mentioning Netflix/Hulu for 1 minute) and explaining what the Wii U was as best as they could. Reggie said "It's all about the games" but unfortunately they didn't have much to show.

2 is because we have no idea what can go wrong on Sony's side. We have a short teaser on some zoomed in visuals of the console, but we don't know the size and functions the console has. Also to note is the DRM fiasco. It's been rumored by some clues that the PS4 might have it as well. There's still a chance they can somehow back out of this, but we'll see.

For MS's sake, I'm hoping the reveal was presented in a fashion to target the casual audience while E3 will have plenty for core gamers to be excited about.
Not a great start though, for this whole gen, I mean.

Yeah for all the bad PR MS is getting (rightfully so), there are two things to address.

1. Assuming MS has some sort of restriction on used games or "online only" functions, Sony might be doing something similar. They've been quite hush hush about it.

2. E3 is where we will see all of MS' games. They said they have 14 new IPs, and I hope the majority of those are not casual Kinect Dance Off games.

Lol, someone's been playing too much Metal Gear lately.

But in seriously, if you were to twist my arm and get me to say ONE good thing about the Xbox One, literally the only thing I'd be able to think of would be the controller, and that'd be just because of the DPad.

I also like at how Microsoft doesn't own the domain names XboxOne.com and XboxOne.net. Someone in the UK owned both of them ever since 2011. Of course, Microsoft is now disputing over those names.

In the defense of Microsoft on that one, this is just another example of a cyber squatter. They register names just so they can profit when a big company needs the website. If it were actually being used like a fan-information website about XBox stuff? Then yeah it'd be crappy of Microsoft to do that. But in this case against a cyber squatter, it's in their right in my opinion.

On the flip side? ... what kind of group of idiots doesn't register their console name in advance? As for the rest of what's wrong with Microsoft? Yeah. Screw them.

Sony, please please PLEASE show me that you won't do the same thing. As sad as it may be that I'll be skipping on the Halo series for a while, I will accept your console with open arms if you don't do all the ridiculous things Microsoft is doing with their console.

Well, yeah, that dude from the UK was obviously squatting, but I liked the fact that he guessed the next XBox's name so far in advance.

To be fair, 2011 is quite awhile ago. There's the possibility of them going to through focus groups to finally arrive at that (poorly chosen) name.

And I could see Sony doing DRM on their games unfortunately. It's hard to see MS taking that step on their own, and Sony hasn't responded to any tweets aside from saying we're passionate fans. Hopefully they back out. DRM from two consoles and no real account system from Nintendo makes me sad this gen.

Relevant:

This actually makes me wonder how MS is going to handle the sale of used Xbox Ones. Are we going to be able to wipe the console to resell it? Will the new users have to pay a fee to play a used console? Will the Xbox One ask us for a blood sample so it can automatically find its way back to our homes if we ever try to get rid of it?

This is basically what I was saying earlier, but in a more general sense~

Hopefully Sony sees how much bad press Microsoft has gotten over that decision and they realize it's not a good idea and they back out, however unlikely that is.

Not a good idea? That's putting it lightly. By having it be seen that they're NOT utilizing that stuff as of now, their stock shot up 10% and backlash against the Microsoft thing has been universally horrid with Australia and Russia contemplating banning the Xbox One, that they'd make much more money without DRM than they'd potentially save with it.

I wonder if people would be more productive in life if there were achievements for it

E3 is do or die for Sony. It can either make their console really popular early on this gen, or just curb stomp it into the ground alongside of Xbone.
