...whatever happened to Ken 2009-present? The last vids of him I've seen are him playing Brawl in 2008. Is he still in college :O?

Wouldn't matter anyway. He'd get four stocked by like a tope or vanz caliber of player.

much respect for his accomplishments and innovation, but the meta-game has progressed and he has been left in the dust.

haha this is ridiculous. He certainly wouldn't be a top top player, but if he played seriously for just a little bit to get back up to speed and adjust I'm sure he'd be a very, very good player.

Obviously Tope / Vanz are amazing, but those aren't the first two I'd put my money on LOL.

I'm sure Ken would do fine if he just had a little bit of time to practice.

Also look at resent vids of G-reg and Chillindude.
Oh, wow, you, just you, and it has to be me, this topic, it can't be any other combo. I'm laughing where I am.
I'm laughing because this guy used to reference a video I made too much and now he's pointing out two players I've recently recorded at a tournament.

So does anyone here have any way to contact him? It would be cool if he would at least drop every once in a while and say hi.

Ken in 07 would be a top contender today, and if he kept up with the metagame he'd easily be top 3 in the world.

That's old news (or more accurately, 3 seasons from what I saw on Wikipedia) though. I hope someone can get in touch with him (Manalord maybe? You two ARE related...) at least. I mean, Isai said he retired too and look at him now.

Just realized, Isai is like Mew2King but he's balancing Melee a different game.

Well aside from my mistake at not noting the FF7 names there... Has Isai mentioned Ken anytime recently?

Do you remember CRAZY RETURN? But now the Meta-game is even further, so I dont know how you expect him to jump in and start ****** straight away.

And when I said Tope / Vanz, I said caliber of player. Which means I think he is below that skill level and would lose without some serious practice and time to catch up.

I think he'd lose to Falocmist, Connor, diakonos, darc, cactuar, scar, etc. Not the GREATEST players but ones that have kept up and have been pretty consistent.

Obviously you can't expect anyone to come back after a few years and be on top right away again, but with some time and practice I have no doubt he could become champ again.

Saying the metagame is too far ahead is like saying that newcomers have no hope of ever being successful.

He was the King for a reason, and I don't doubt that he could do it again if he actually cared. Unfortunately, it's quite clear that he has other interests that he values more, so he'll probably just remain as the idealized relic of the original era of smash, forever the King.

Ken would get mercilessly ***** by at least 20-30 of the top players today, and beaten anywhere from easily to somewhat difficultly by the other top 70-80.

The dude used to be hella good, no doubt, but if Ken picked up the game right now... He may not make it out of pools.

Sure, give him a few tournaments and some practice time, he might start ****** again, but I really really really really doubt he'd ever get first place. His time's up. Also, this is all pointless speculation.

If he'd play at this very moment, he'd have the skill of the average competitive smasher.

2 hours against local pros to help catch up, he'd be his 2007 self.

Add 1 tournament and a day on the Marth boards, Ken would prolly be a top professional again.

Add 2-3 more tourneys to learn playstyles, and Ken would have his mindgames set up to be the best again.

...The only con to this prediction is this might only be likely in animes/mangas.

I think age is a major obstacle for Ken. He's like 24 now, right? When tournament players of a lot of games reach 25, it's time to say goodbye to their carreer as a top player. Their reflexes start to get slower, and their capacity to learn is reduced. If he hasn't played Smash at all since his last maor tournament, he'd have a very hard time becoming a top player again, let alone dethrone Mango.

I get the feeling you guys are overestimating his adaptive capability

He was getting wrecked my '06 M2K before he quit, right?

And now '010 M2K is getting wrecked by Zhu, Mango, Armada, etc. etc.

Just because you used to be hella good doesn't mean you can cover 4 years of metagame evolution with a few weeks of practice

once again, all pointless speculation

Haha I think some of you are crazy...

It doesn't take 4-6 months to shake off rust. Maybe a couple weeks tops. And Ken won EVO worlds late 2007. So he's been gone like 2 and 1/2 years tops not 4.

There are examples of previous generation top players comming back from long breaks and still being top players. Didn't HugS stop playing for a good year and 1/2 to 2 years? He came back and immediately became one of Cali's top 3-4 players again.

I remember Azen taking a long break back in the day and he came back and immediately starting top 3'ing/winning big tourneys again.

Shiz has only been playing a couple times a year for the past couple years yet hes still a legit threat to top 5/win any tourney he goes to.

Ken would still ****.
