Actually I feel that Final smashes should be up to the players...

Kinda like Hax Item Clause in Pokemon. Both players must agree to this though...

And I know that some Final Smashes are total BS but (correct me if Im wrong, I only played a Marth once) doesnt marths ONLY work it you are perfectly horizontal to them, and if Marth misses then doesn't he just keep going and die??

Im gonna go play Brawl all day tomorrow so Ill test some match ups and report.

I think the best way to objectively consider the effects of Smash Balls in Tournaments is to try them out for a while and look at the data. Perhaps have players run tournaments twice, with smash balls on and off. Then you can compare who is winning with smashballs on and who is winning with them off, and then you can look for patterns and possible explanations.

For instance, if the same players consistently win tournaments regardless of the presence of smash balls, then we can say that smash balls DO NOT have an effect on the relationship of "player skill" and winning tournaments. If that were the case, then smashballs don't affect who wins but simply the methods and playstyle involved in winning.

I contend that a skilled player will win a tournament (or come close to winning) regardless of whether or not smashballs are turned on.

but sadly, at the moment, we are all too noobish (even the ones with a copy of the game) to prove this right or wrong. we will have to wait and see!

I beat KDJ and PC Chris at Mass Madness with Final Smashes so obviously I think they should be in the game.

If they're taken out of the competitive scene I'm going back to Starcraft.

Sorry for repeating someone else but test them at least once. Then make your decision

My reasoning; look at the characters in a match and their final smash. Broken final smash=no smash ball

It is broken beyond reason. Me and my friends have tested it out. They are fun in FFA's but in one on one tourny matches its just too cheap

Yeah, there's no way in hell they're gonna' see tournament play. A lot of FSs are unavoidable and alter the course of the gameplay far too much to be allowed in tournaments.

Even though they'd be fun when you're just messing around, still too game-breaking

Even if some people wanted them, if ONE person comlained about them, there would be this big argument on matches, really not worth it.

I think he was referring to the idea that F4A matches are solely friendly matches.

I can see FSs being in melees, because they're already cheap, and If people want to gang up on you, death can be unavoidable. I don't know if FSs will be banned in one on ones or not, but neither does anybody else. The game came out near the end of last month and you fools think you know everything. What the hell?

I've played it quite a bit and I'm just giving my personal opinion as is everyone else. you will understand when you get the game. I don't know everything, nobody does, but in terms of FS's being in one vs ones it would cause too many problems. Imagine getting wobbled in a tournament match... pretty angry right? Now get it done to you 10 fold... painful.

As for FFA's, those are almost always just messing around matches. Nothing serious out of them. Someone hits you with an FS and all you can do is laugh and say wait till I get one.

Kinda. Only if it messes with a serious game. Otherwise might be good for a laugh...

I kind of agree with this.

Then again, given the small amount of time I've played Brawl with FS on, they really were hard to avoid.

It'll come down to how broken they end up being when people get really good at the game. That being said, I wouldn't keep my hopes up for them being included in 1v1s.

The annoying thing is how often they appear. In a 3 stock match the smashball showed up somewhere between 3 and 6 times at least. I love using them but its literally a 0 skill kill item.

Maybe only a few FS should be banned to give this boards so-called low teir a fighting chance. You can't claim tiers are based on who has the best metagame if you take out a key move in every characters arsonal.

Im still on the fence and want to see it tested for viability. One idea I thought about though is perhaps allow Final Smashes to be selected during the counterpicking rounds of the game. That way if people think Final Smashes will put them at a disadvantage they can keep them off but if they want to risk it they can.

Thats kind of like what I was suggesting not too long ago. Have both players decide before a match as to whether or not ban the FS. But that in itself could bring up issues. So it's a tough call. We will see as time continues what the majority decide.

my idea would be to set smash balls on lowm where both players can use them but they cabbot be used to win a match (meaning u cant use it to kill ur oponents last stock)

the way i see it is like this: it takes skill 2 use ur character's fs to the best of its ability, but it takes even greater skills to be able to dodge/or not get killed by a fs (plus its guaranteed brahhing rights :))

Here is one idea. If in a match one of the two characters has a broken final smash, (Marth for example) smash balls will be turned off (unless both players say okay to smash balls). If none have a broken final smash, let them in.

Can't players already overide rules if they both agree?

I know for a fact that they can play on a banned stage if they agree, but can they do other things? Can they agree to turn on items, or change the number of stocks (provided that it doesn't increase the time it takes to run the tournament)?

If you find to people that are bad enough to agree for Smash Balls on then go ahead other then that I doubt they will ever see competitive play.
