Is a terabyte even necessary?

:glare:

If anything, I just hope my VC purchases are transferable. I kind of have a launch Wii and am wary about how much life it still has left in it (making odd noises every time I use it now).
A terabyte probably isn't necessary, but if you download a LOT of virtual console games, possibly. My main point is that being able to use external hard drives with the Wii U could solve the lack of memory problem.

One TB is excessive, but assuming Nintendo is gonna try to have a digital market and what not...it would be nice to have space where you can download/store movies, games, etc. Blu-ray movies can get spacious, but assuming Wii U doesn't use Blu-ray, then movies in 1080 will go about 7 GB?

Don't worry. The Valve console will lay waste to the big three anyway.

I like a lot of what The Buzzsaw has to say, I've said this elsewhere, but all the other two consoles are just trying to be computers. I'd rather play games on my computer and save the money. If I want I'll just hook up the TV and use it as a monitor. If the controls aren't fun, then we just need controllers that hook up to the computer and we're fine.

HD Nintendo? Good enough, I don't care if it isn't better than eve what we have now with the other systems, I've seen what it can do with The Legend of Zelda, that is PLENTY of graphical power for me, it's beautiful.

Some people say consoles we end up dying and PC gaming will rise. The only thing that reminds me that it isn't entirely true is Nintendo.

Companies will always deny the worst kept secrets ever. Remember the cover art for Brawl?

Nintendo: "Um, no comment. Uh, no official box art has been revealed at this time. The box art isn't even... OK yeah it's real."

Big deal. Valve also says they're making Half-Life Episode 3. Why would I believe them now?
When Valve says they're doing something, they're REALLY doing it in 5 years.

When Valve says they're NOT doing something, if it happens within the next 15 years a black hole appears in the Atlantic ocean and destroys us all.

I'm taking a bet that there's no Valve console

(Also more HL3 news has happened recently, slated... I think it was 2014 release date? lol)

To be honest, Valve doesn't really need to make its own console. After all, they could do more and make more money while still making stuff for PC. Also, the reason why Valve takes so long is because they can. They have made quality products time and time again, so they can get away with it, as people know they'll make something good.

Rumor price of 300. Too high, too low, or just right?

http://wii.ign.com/articles/122/1222560p1.html

I'm personally not a fan of gaming companies making an excessive amount of money through sales of consoles, so if production costs are 230, then you consider things like shipping, revenue share, etc...I'd say it's a pretty good price. With that being said, I'd still wait for a price drop of 200 and a nice lineup of games.

That it is. The idea of something new and shiny for only 300 would definitely attract barring the PS3 and 360 suddenly started selling for 200 or less.

Yea, 300 is perfect. The Wii was 250 when it came out and the Wii U is FARRRR more superior than the Wii. this is a great price. I expect the new microsoft and sony console to be very expensive, especially when compared to Wii U.

Actually, assuming those production costs are correct...

If they sold it for $250, it would've had the same profit margin as the Wii did when it was first released (Wii took something like $226 to produce then)

I'm not sure why they wouldn't go for that low price again, then...

I'm just taking a shot here, but maybe it's going to be $300 to make the statement that it is Wii-U as opposed to just a revamped Wii. More of a "serious" price if you will. This would also leave them room for a price drop while still making a nice profit.

Again, just a guess. :bee:

$300 would be a legit price. Can't wait for the Wii U's reintroduction at E3, hopefully it'll have some nice features and some good launch games

Well Pikmin 3 is probably going to be a launch title. After the 3DS launch it only makes sense that Nintendo would release a Mario title at launch too (NSMBMii perhaps?) even though that was said to only be a tech demo but who knows. As long we see some GC/DC VC titles right off the bat I'll be extremely happy with that alone.

I need a Wii U strictly to replace the decaying video cable on my Wii. HDMI FTW.

Man I want a Wii U

Not only does it actually look amazing with it's ability to use the touch screen on the tablet as an actual device to game on while the TV is busy, but I also really, really, really need a Wii. There's a lot of games for it that I've been wanting to buy and I still really kick myself for selling my old one so I can look forward to the backwards compatibility of the Wii U

I agree, I want a Wii U partly so I can use it for Wii games so I don't have to wear down my normal Wii, which has a ton of data on it that I DON'T want to lose.

lol I'll wait for the Wii U. Gonna wait like a year for one, since I always never buy a home console near its release. Just wait for good titles to come out, as well as some services to become readily available and improved.

Nintendo has been pretty sharp to have their consoles remain durable from release, but I'd still sit and wait to see if there are any known bugs or problems.

Knowing Nintendo if there is any bugs in the Wii U's hardware they're probably very rare and nothing to really worry about.

There is a good chance I can get Wii U on Christmas, Which would be near release. Would it really be worth it to wait a while before getting Wii U? I'm sure everything will be fine and even if the launch games aren't that great I would still think it would be worth it.

If you don't have a Wii, or will be receiving it as a gift, then go for it. Word of warning though: its gonna be a pain to get around that time.

If not, see if stores have a playable demo so that you can try it out before buying it.

There should be opinions and at least a few games to hold your interest. A Mario game here, and some third party games like Batman: AC or Assassin's Creed if you haven't played those possibly.

Seriously. Research, research, research.
My friend laughs at me for doing research on these kinds of things, but at least I can proudly say that I have yet to make a bad purchase related to video games that wasn't in my childhood days. Also, be sure to pay attention to e3 this year for more news on Wii U and the whatnot.

Gamestop. :b:

But yeah be careful of the throngs of people you'll encounter if you try to get it the night it comes out.
