I'm pretty sure there's a thread in the media forum thingy of smashboards... but since this is here

Post-rock: Explosions in the Sky - they're a really laid back instrumental band with polyphonic melodies and intense build ups in most their songs. Definitely check em out

k-os

Wilco

Belle and Sebastian

The Darkness

If you like an absurd amount of guitars in one song, anything Broken Social Scene does

Steely Dan

The Kinks, specifically their album "The Kinks Present the Village Green Preservation Society"

If you like really eclectic stuff, Tom Waits

If you like quality J-rock, the pillows

Yo-Yo Ma's "Obrigado Brazil" is baaadaaass

Depapepe makes really good "feel good" instrumental guitar music (just two guitars, one rhythm one lead)

Tower of Power is the best soul funk band ever, best album is self-titled

Chicago Afrobeat Project (CAbP) if you enjoy really driving jazz

Pink Floyd "Dark Side of the Moon" is badass

The Bad Plus makes really badass eclectic jazz music (and they're freakin' awesome live)

And the Darkness's first album, "Permission to Land" is fantastic

Ben Harper is a cool reggae dude, assuming you already know of Bob Marley.

And Spyro Gyra is pretty dope jazz group.

And then there's all the other stuff people listed.

Techno: Happy Hardcore, UK Hardcore
the Bonkers albums. old stuff is kind of repetitive, but still good.
Hardcore Heaven albums are pretty good too.
DJ Brisk (solo) or Brisk&Ham have made my favourite stuff tho.

Metal:
I like Children of Bodom and Disarmonia Mundi.

Bloc party is so good on CD and so bad live, it's disappointing...

For all you post-rock enthusiasts out there (which is more than I was aware of apparently)

Mogwai
Explosions in the Sky
Godspeed You! Black Emperor / A Silver Mt. Zion
65daysofstatic
This is Your Captain Speaking
Sigur Ros
God is an Astronaut
The Album Leaf

That should be enough epic/relaxing/inspirational music for a while

I'm liking your style debaser. At first I just though the name was a coincidence with the song, haha. I'll go ahead and second Elliot Smith being amazing.
