Just like the title says what was your first? Did you play any games before or is Brawl or Melee your first?

Mine is Melee, back in 2005.

Melee in 2004. I had just turned 15 when TG6 happened.

My first fighting game in general was SFII Turbo when I was like 4 or 5 years old lol.

Nice. I think SFII and any of its expansions was the first fighting game for a lot of people here. Including myself. xD

*sighs* My first real fighting game was ssb but Ive never played competitive. I would like to get competitive over brawl someday... when my father decides that a brawl tourney IS NOT A WASTE OF TEN DOLLARS!

Why not go to smashfests or tourneys with no door fees and get tons of friendlies? Those are fun and very helpful. :3

Melee is the only one I play with an intent to go to tournaments.

That's pretty rough, roacherman. My dad's a lot like that. He doesn't even know that I'm interested in tournaments. I can't wait for that day when I'm on the other side of the country at a tourney and decide to tell him where I am. Anyway, I feel that competitive gaming is very productive and look at tourneys as social events where you can make lasting friendships with people that have similar interests. I think it teaches hard work, determination, goal-setting, and other important life lessons that are hard to learn elsewhere. Best paper I ever wrote was on this subject actually. Try to explain to your dad what it is you really intend to gain from tourneys, and that you're mature enough to not let it take priority over academics. Not guaranteeing that'll work, but its worth a shot, right?

One of the Street Fighter IIs, or it was Killer Instinct. I forget which. I have been most competitive in Melee, though.

Yeah, it was one of the only papers where I had a lot to say about the subject. Naturally it was easier for me to write. Anime conventions seem pretty interesting. I'll have to go to one sometime. I'm probably never gonna cosplay, but if I do, it's gonna be a falcon helmet.

Other fighting games i'm interested in playing competitively would be various street fighter and guilty gear games, and blazblue. Mainly because my smash friends play them. Too bad I don't actually have them. :ohwell:

Tekken. The first one.

In all seriousness, probably Brawl. I can't think of any other fighting games that I played competitively prior to it.

Although, truthfully, I would love to play BlazBlue or Guilty Gear competitively.

God, do I even remember... I'm pretty sure it was Street Fighter II, on the SNES. I barely played it but it counts :chuckle:

Competitive-wise I'm looking to get into Brawl+ and Melee tournies

Hmm, I never did like too many fighting games. I'll say my first would be Soul Caliber II, I went to a tourney on that game because my friends said I would do fine.

Cosplaying is fun though! xD

Me too, and MvC2. But I'm the only one in my area that plays to get better. I'm fairly decent in BB. :D I also want to get into Street Fighter, I'm planning on maining Cammy and Sakura.

I don't play competitively, but in terms of skill I'm pretty darn good at Guilty Gear X. I never liked X2 (gasp) and Isuka was just spamming Grand Viper lol. I'm also somewhat decent at Brawl, and I have improved on Melee.

My first fighting game would have been Street Fighter 2 (The first one, for the Amiga- so no playing as Bison for me until quite a few years later :() Elfmania, and Body Blows Galactic.

First one I took competitively was problem gundam battle assault 2(rose gundam loop all day*okay I actually just whored deathsythe) or soul cali 2.

To above posters:
GGXXAC is really good man I don't know how you can like GGX better it was so broke.

TvC is total **** until the USA version comes out, we all p. much dropped it here once the game was lol pick karas, blockstringz and the ones who didn't do that just got down really good infintes and burst traps. Trust me it needs balanced the game is so broken.

Also yatterman-2 woohoo.

Blegh Id like to go to smashfests but my father also doesnt believe in them. He thinks there must always be a catch. So here I am stuck doing wi fi to better myself
Ehhh don't worry about it too much, just play it with your friends and have fun, I mean once you get a car or go to college which ever comes first you can play whatever game is pop then seriously.

I personally find it very odd when I run into ppl under 16 at tournies.

I mean for me when I go to tournies I pretend its like going to an arcade all the money is lost from the start, and if you think of it like that $10+$5 door fee isn't so bad. Speaking of which good arcades are awesome too bad they are so rare in the USA, unless your in NYC or cali.

If you happen to win its just icing on the cake or rather, parm on the pizza you are ordering to celebrate.

Like my parents don't like it, but the fact that I overall have made money at tournies, they normally don't give me too bad of a time plus Im in college, but its kinda hard to hide because they are ALL DAY EVENTS, and we normally call each other on weekends.

Man, I need to get some of my Brawl friends into GG. It would be rad.

GGXX isn't necessarily the same as Accent Core. There are about five iterations of XX games.

First fighting game I tried to get really good at was Street Fighter II, but not in the sense where I'd go to tourneys or beat people a the arcade. I was too young for that at the time.

Melee would be the first game where I'd go to tourneys. Those were some fun times.

I'm not a competetive player, but the first fighting game I ever played was probably Street Fighter. I was 4 at the time, so I was a natural at button mashing.

It seems like a lot of player's first fighting game was SF2 as well, one of the classics and your are unfortunately deprived if you've never played it!

lol this is the wrong place to ask this question. The crowd is generally to young and because of this of course its gonna be melee/brawl.

Anywho... MvC2 maybe 5 years ago. I still play it

My first competitive game was Melee, back in 2003. I've barely even peeked at the competitive scenes for other fighters. Though I've heard a lot about other scenes/met people who are involved in other communities (no choice when my old roommate ran a fighting game news site lol), I've just never had a chance to get into those games. I think the closest I got was DOA.

Technically speaking, my first one was Soul Calibur 2. One day after school 15 of my friends and I decided to go over to a guys house and have 3 tourneys on all 3 systems cause his parents were out of town, and he had like, a 50 inch tv or something ridiculous like that.

Didnt really touch SC2 again till I was in college when they had a tourney and I won that too. At that tourney, I met some people who played melee, and that's when I got back into melee.
