One of the main TOs at a weekly tourney I go to got a capture card, so some of my videos may start showing up.
Bronze Match - Ignis
vs Me
7:57
13:25
Overall I'm happy with how I played as I was trying out using half-waft more often, however obvious points to improve in how I play against Robin and in general.
- Avoid grabs at 95%-115% range
- Don't ride in with bike in neutral - bad habit, especially turning the bike on stage
- I smash attack too much on accident
- I probably shouldn't run off on stage so often
Ledge recovery alternatives? Techs I'm not utilizing? Opinions are always appreciated
You're respecting Robin's Arcfire too much and not respecting his aerials enough. There were several instances from his Arc Fire where you could have descended with a bite instead of pulling back, but you seemed to have gotten the rhythm of him by the end.
Your approach should be using a lot more dash attacks and dash grabs to interrupt the pattern of his aerials. Robins like shorthop fair, but it's not as safe as they think it is. Also, this is huge, you are recovering all wrong.

Here's one example of it. Jump first, then activate the bike, don't charge at him at a height where he can catch you, your goal is to make it onto the stage as safely as possible, but instead you're giving him a huge opportunity to stuff you. Also, when Robin is directly behind you, DON'T uptilt, nair instead. Actually, nair instead of uptilt when anyone is behind you, uptilting is for ledges, platforms, and overhead opponents, not for ground to ground attacks. You also have a strange habit of ftilting people from up close when you should be grabbing from that proximity, and tbh, you aren't grabbing enough in general. There are moments where you're punishing short hop fairs with a dtilt when you should be running up and grabbing him.
When you want to avoid Robin's checkmate, DI to the direction Robin is facing, JUMP, and airdodge at the same time. Speaking of his uair, NEVER challenge Robin from above. I saw you do that with Wario's nair of all moves, but ya, make sure you're never directly above him unless he's off stage. With your DI and Bike this shouldn't a problem to accomplish. Lastly, try and eat Robin's books when you know he's going to throw it at you. Takes it out of play and gives you 1% health. Also makes Robin's more hesitant to throw it at you in the future.
This is a match up I play more than any other, and believe me when I tell you it's not a disadvantage for us. We can gimp Robin with fart. We can punish his aerials on block. We can get in on Robin. We just can't challenge his aerials or approach with Bike. These are your most important lessons, take them to heart, play a lot more carefully, and you can win this.
