You're not playing careful enough in this MU. There were often moments where you seem to get impatient and just get hit as a result. Respect Ryu more in general. Respect focus attack more. Don't try to challenge his aerials or Shoryuken offstage. You will get hit.

About whether or not you should save waft, it depends on the scenario. Do you absolutely need to land the kill immediately? Go for it. Can you close it out and use it later? Save it. Can you afford to lose the first stock and use it to close their 2nd stock early? Go for it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zTWcxYIq-dE vs Ryu, wario sets at 6:35 on

i straight up get outplayed but any matchup specific info would be much appreciated. feel like i should just aim for 2x full waft kills in this matchup.
I think when you lost the last match on FD your lost confidence on your playstyle, because on set 2 your spacing was not that good like on FD, if you feel nervous or frustated after losing don't go inmediately to the next match..take a couple of mins or seconds to calm down, other thing i noticed is that you get really impatient for the kill and you keep approaching even if you are winning.. there's no need for you to do that, if you are winning just let them approach you and punish the mistakes that they made.

some more videos - this time from our monthly event which i managed to take 1st in. as always criticism is very appreciated, still feels like i got a long way to go. all videos of me this time

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8yDDdqh_M0 vs ROB
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=URv18t4sIWw vs Robin / Mario
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RQKJcPrlbc vs Luigi
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5e8269mQwE vs Yoshi

overall i focused on being a good deal less committal this time - which i wasn't doing before most of the time - with good results. i was reasonably happy with the yoshi matches (went relatively even which is a vast improvement on my usual getting wrecked) and played much better vs a ROB this time (though she acknowledged she wasn't playing very well). i switch between wario and g&w multiple times to throw my opponents off so you'll have to put up with a bit of non-wario gameplay through the last three videos.
glad you share this.. It seemed that full hoping bite to catch some aerials is more reliable than i thought, will have to test that over the most common thrown out aerials. also if iirc bite in the air has less cooldown than a grounded bite

Wario is a character I'd love to pick up. I had a lot of 3DS practice with him so I have his fundamentals down, but stuff like bike tricks, like throwing it in the air, eating it, edgeguarding with it, are all things I need to lab.

I always have problems against Lil'Macs :p

Here's my anti-Mac notes. Pay close attention to the first one in particular.

- Stop jabbing so much when you grab Mac, just throw him immediately before he has a chance to DI or worse, break out as your opponent did several times in your match.

- Against most characters this is bad advice, but against Mac, use the bike a lot more, especially when he has KO punch out. When he gets KO punch, bike at him as much as possible, since no Mac can resist going for the punch, only to be left way open since the punch will ONLY hit the bike and not you when you're riding. Punish with Fsmash or Waft when they waste their punch on your bike. Remember though, only Bike when you have a lot of distance between him, unless you want to be fsmash in the face.

- Come down from the air with a bite out once in a while, especially after a bike jump when they try to punish your landing or when he's shielding expecting a dair. Makes Mac's more nervous to run into you. Don't use the bite until you're reasonably close to the ground and don't use it when you're already on the ground unless you're very confident in what your opponent is going to do.

- When you block his Fsmash, punish with a dash attack. Mac will be using it a lot since all Mac players don't actually think when they're playing as him. The dash attack is Wario's fastest move and it's usually fast enough to catch Mac, although if he does block it, you're dead so be careful.

- Punish his many lunge punches (forward Bs) with a dash grab when they're not next to you, or a down smash when they are, nothing else since Mac is too small to hit with a back air always and dsmash covers both sides quickly when he's close.

- Use aerial bites to grab when he's trying to land on stage (never use it off stage since you can die). Mac's like counter as they're landing, so bite them out of it and watch them plunge to their doom when they realize they've wasted their second jump.

- When Mac is recovering vertically, punish him with a dsmash. He doesn't actually auto stick to the ledge, so he often goes just past it as he's recovering. Be ready for him, block the up b if you need to, but punish with a dsmash or fart. Or, fall of the ledge and back air him as he's recovering to really screw him up.

Mac is a dumb character, and matches against him can go one of two ways. Either you play his game and get bopped, or you force him to play yours and destroy him. Keep to the skies, bike and bike jump a lot, don't be afraid to bite, and for the love of God, avoid those FSmashes. When Macs feel cornered, they'll just spam the living hell out of it, and they're way easier to punish while gliding through the air than on the ground if you know how to fast fall.

My last set from a tournament I had last week happened to be uploaded. I ran out of steam that last match so hard, but I'm happy with my performance for the most part since it was the closest I've gotten to beating zephyr out of our like....7 sets. Lol :happysheep:

Geezzz Reflex your Wario play always amazes me. Especially how well you utilize FF upair. Also that bike throw to waft was sick.

Thanks for your answer man! I really appreciate it!

Yeah, i know. My jab is a really bad habit and i got punished twice just because of that...
I battled some Macs and i used the bite while their landing and the results were really funny! :p They had no jump and boom.. death!

I will post my matches from the next tour ( if i don't pick Bayo, because it's in a month :p)

I wanted to make a video tutorial on the use of a run turn around cancel combined with a roll canceled grab, but it seems that it's already known. Should I make a tutorial video on it?

I mained Wario in Brawl and I'm not especially fond of him in 4, but, by popular demand, I went to my local Round Robin last week and I went Wario all the way.

Honestly, playing Wario in this Round Robin, it felt like my skills from Brawl were transferring pretty well. I still don't like most of the changes they made to him but I felt like I moved with such ease compared to the other characters I've been trying. I'm thinking of giving him another shot at my next local (although a couple friends and I are pretty set on maining Bayonetta).

I'm not really an expert in the rosa matchup, could someone give me some tips?
http://www.twitch.tv/jupitersmash/v/40835368?t=36m28s for big waft hitbox

(won) BO5 :4wario2: vs :4bowser: - :4zss: http://www.twitch.tv/jupitersmash/v/40835368?t=01h44m43s

(lost) BO5 :4wario2: vs :4link: - :4pikachu: http://www.twitch.tv/jupitersmash/v/40835368?t=02h04m54s
http://www.twitch.tv/jupitersmash/v/40835368?t=02h22m19s for combo with thrown bike and waft combo breaker

Finished in 4th place. I REALLY need a secondary that takes care of wario's bad MUs.

Just curious, which matchups do you feel you need a secondary for?
I would say "spammers" like Link or top tiers. I was thinking of secondary-ing Mario (with Wario colors ofc)

a few vids from a couple of recent-ish tourneys

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9D9hfbeuHs (vs Fox) (i really dislike this matchup)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mkm_48DJmlM (vs Bowser)
http://www.twitch.tv/geelongsmash/v/38575316 (2:06:20 - vs Mario, 3:55:00 - vs Ryu / MK, 4:19:30 - vs Bowser)

think i mostly have a problem with playing on tilt and approaching badly. id like to know what i am doing right / wrong vs fox as that is a matchup ive never been able to get too strong of a handle on. played badly vs the MK counterpick as that was my first time playing against it in tournament; took a set off it this friday though.

Was lucky enough to play Rin on stream a few days before G3 at a local, made a lot of mistakes like running into tons of sun salutations and missing wafts left and right. Shared this set in the wario discord group but I wanted to see if anyone here had anything extra to add.

For someone who promotes turtling, you sure do approach a lot mind if I ask what gives? Also I notice you using dair to waft in situations where it's not guaranteed, whats the deal with that?

I don't play as well as I could; I need to stay back and stall more.

Sometimes a 50% chance of getting D-Air to Waft is what you have to rely on. Sometimes people mash Attack or Shield and get themselves hurt.

I always figured that on every single stock we should be turtling for fart. But more about dair to waft I would imagine that mashing shield or air dodge would work almost every time in theory. In none of those situations they pressed shield?
