i think youre mistaken. I remember quetz playing peach in an early tournament. I remember i think it was Bryce(somebody confirm this) who played DK and did quite well in one of our early tournaments before he subsequently disappeared

Congrats on repeating Mics post about Bryce_ ;)

Yeah the Snake was the time i learnt how potent his F-tilt really was_ Pretty sure that's when Snake in general was making a big rise in the charts_ Probably a good thing to learn early in the game_ John had a great Snake if i recall_ His Pit was always something i will never forget though_

Snake used to be considered the best character in the game but then MK took over

Ftilt actually gets even worse, snake can just hit you with the first hit of the ftilt and see how you react, then punish accordingly i.e. if you get hit then he'll continue, if you shield he'll grab, if you spotdodge he'll punish, if you roll he'll dash attack or ftilt

Vlade:

1a. Snake's first hit of ftilt on shield is -7 before a second hit can come out. If you're that close to where snake can grab you (and if snake wants to grab you as a result, its more like -25), you can grab him first (well, unless your snake, who has a slower grab).
1b. Fine tune your spacing !_!
1c. Shield dropping after the first hit then reshielding again perfectly "times" for a power shield. People forget about this option a lot.
2. Second hit does outrange the first. But a character with a 2 frame cooldown on their spot dodge (hurr falco) shouldn't be worrying too much if they spot dodge to shield. Second hit on shield is definitely not safe on block.

3. Yeah rolling is bad :p

For the connection tour on the first day is 1 vs 1 vs 1 vs 1 and on the second day is when the tag team battles start. Although the team that wins goes through the next round.

Anyone want to team with me on the day?

Lol i can see people undercutting it to the extreme and it will end up with Ganondorf ditto's which is epic win.

alzi. that's practically impossible, and given the ruleset. a dumb thing to do.

player 1 can't choose a character thats a lower tier than player 2. therefore when the two players choose their starter characters, from then on, the only characters that are allowed are characters that sit between the chosen two in the tier list.

player a chooses falco, player b chooses metaknight. only characters that can be changed to are snake and diddy, or a ditto of falco, or a ditto of mk.

im not perth but I'll give my opinion anyway. I like the rules, they're competitive, but they're not viable for a TRUE tournament. Players are punished for using a higher tier character...its just not cool.

thats true shaya, but any standard tournament shouldn't force players to lose a tournament because they're reliant on high tiers. You can't just get really good with one character here, mains are pointless. it forces you to learn several characters from different tiers just so you MIGHT have enough points to win.

i dunno, hard to put to words (for me)

but i mostly disagree with anything that says you need to learn more than one character. a player should be able to pick a main and stick to it without being hindered because its 'better'. >_>

The ruleset (or what I got out of it) only makes a difference if the skill gap between players is marginal... In which cases, it's probably wiser for each player to stick to a character they know best because if the skill gap is already marginal, risking choosing a non-main would probably yield a worse result than if you just stuck with your main...

I'd love to try it out, but would not forego a Singles tournament event for this variation... Doubles, maybe :D

Try it at a smashfest first please ^^

I'm with Jesse on this_ Id be willing to do this in place of say doubles_ It increases awareness of matchups and tech skill_ Also could intice players to enjoy other characters and also gives a chance to embrace low tiers rather then running the usual low tier tourney_

In an alternate universe.
That is true.

Other than Snake, the only other characters I play are low tier.

so of course i'd be up for it like i've already stated.

it will at least encourage people to use different characters maybe, allowing people to have a wider experience against a range of characters which would be rather nice.

I'm with Trav on this_
Yes you are :p

The problem with this ruleset is that its quite complicated for people who have never been to a tournament before, or are just getting into the scene, or have no true concept of or care for tiers... This makes using this at legitimate tournaments (where we're trying to get new players) a questionable choice, hence why I want to see it tried at a smashfest first, or a tournament with only established members of the scene (in which case, this should be decided on the day depending on attendance)... Obviously I'm more in favour of the first choice :D

Was trying to post a funny gif didn't work. :/

Well i guess using metaknight isn't completly bad, since people still need more metaknight experience.

More like Ganondorf will somehow come alive in this planet earth and call it his hyrule then a legendary boy will come and save us all. It will obviously be mic_228.
