NO CRITICIZING OTHER POSTER'S OPINIONS. If people here aren't mature enough to follow this simple rule then I will request for this thread to be locked. If you don't agree with something (which you likely won't), either ignore it or leave the thread.

This is a place where we get stuff off of our chest. No need to spark debate here.

- I'm not against the idea of Pichu returning. In fact I'd love to see it come back, so long as it does not get in the way of other Pokemon characters.

- I also think Plusle and Minun would be a nice addition to the roster.

- The SSE from Brawl had loads of potential, and I'd actually love to see another Adventure Mode like that of Brawl's.

- I don't really want to see Vaati on the roster, and I think he has one of the lowest chances of all possible Zelda newcomers. I believe Tingle, Toon Zelda/Tetra and to a lesser extent, even Impa, all have better chances than him.

-I dislike the idea of having a second Link that ISN'T Toon Link. Although I would've liked Toon Link to be a bit more Luigi-fied, (de-cloned) I'm fine with him as he is too. Masked Link and Classic Link could be interesting, I'll admit that. But I wouldn't want either of them on the roster instead of Toon Link.

My unpopular Smash 4 opinions:

I don't care for the idea of Little Mac joining Smash 4. I'm not against it, I just don't care for it. Personally, I don't care for boxing, and he just feels boring in general. On top of that, even though I'm sure that it was just Brawl messing it up, I think he's way too small, and showing up normal sized a game later would just be silly. He's most likely joining though, and while I don't support it, I have no qualms about it either. I may play as him if I like his playstyle.

Waluigi is actually on the top of my Smash 4 list. Most people who want him, if at all only barely do, or is just in the lower section of their list. I feel like he deserves it, having been exempt from the first three games, and he would complete the Mario/Wario bros. set. His playstyle would be rather unique as well.

I'm actually content with a combination of Melee and Brawl. I won't pull my hair out if it isn't Melee 2.0

I'm perfectly fine with Ganon maintaining his previous moveset, so long as they don't make him so slow and laggy. This is probably because I main him as my best character and don't bother with Falcon all that much. I'd be okay if they changed it completely, as long as they put in Black Shadow and give him Ganon's old moveset.

I'd much rather have Zoroark than Lucario.

But does that imply alternate characters as costumes such as Roy for Marth, Shulk for Ike, Dixie for Diddy, etc., the custom costumes Golden mentioned, or simply skins for the character? I am quite fond of the idea of skins seen in Project M, they're still the same character in the end, just wearing a different outfit.

I'm having a bit of trouble finding the exact quote from the interviews listed in the Smash Development thread, so I won't be able to say for sure. I'm hoping at this point that it applies to custom costumes and alternate characters only, which I disagree with as "reducing individuality," but can accept as a compromise. I'm hoping He Fit Trainer opens the door to more similar costumes.

--I wish people would credit the entire Smash team more often for the positive aspects of Smash Bros., not just Sakurai. He receives a whole lot of attention due to being the head developer and having the whole narrative going about him being a dedicated genius, even before the injury, but there are other people working long hours and creating a fantastic product as well behind-the-scenes. This applies to the series' negative aspects as well, of course, but when Sakurai defends those in relation to his "personal criteria" or what "direction" he wants, the team's responsibility seems lessened IMO.

--Basically, I have the opposite position of everyone who claims "I don't care about characters, throw in a group of stickmen and colored squares for all I care, so long as they're unique and the gameplay is excellent." Characters, in terms of who they are and how they're handled, are the absolute most important aspect of the game for me. I enjoy other content and modes, as well as the gameplay, but without everyone's favorite all-star characters to tie them all together, I'd struggle to enjoy myself. Also, considering that most of Brawl's characters were added early on and the rest of development was spent "distilling the gameplay down," I don't believe that more focus on gameplay is necessarily good given current mentality that, as balance increases, the game's personality decreases.

-Geno's more interesting than a vast majority of the characters that people regularly suggest, especially when it comes to Mario characters.
-Sonic should have never been in Smash and he's the most overrated video game character next to Cloud Strife.
-Mewtwo's overrated and they'll probably halfass it again if it makes it back.
-I completely fail to understand Roy's appeal and why people want him back.
-I like Ganondorf's moveset the way that it is.
-I honestly don't care if the DK franchise gets another rep or not.
-I feel Wario deserves a second rep more than Kid Icarus.

I hate any maneuver in games that requires silly frame precision and that's why I like Smash over other fighting games. And I hate that people want to add more of the stupid things in. If it's a core gameplay mechanic why punish the less dexterous among us?

The cuts in this game should be:
- Toon Link
- Falco
- Lucario
- Lucas

Toon Link is back, so I prefer if they give him his more unique weapons from Wind Waker like the Skull Hammer and the Magical Leaf so it can be further different than Link.

I hope there is no more Clones this time and the clones that still exist have a even more Luigified moveset or even an overhaul to their gameplay.

Pokemon should stay with 6 playable characters nothing less, nothing more and I hate if Sakurai includes Pichu again or even other Pokemon before the inclusion of another Mario character.

Fire Emblem should stay at two characters Ike and Marth.

If Mario will have another character a part from the main four, it should be Bowser Jr. or Paper Mario, Toad is the blandest character ever created in the Mario Series, the same goes for Bandana Waddle Dee from the Kirby series, so they should never be playable or be considered until we truly scratch the bottom of all the barrels that Sakurai could think.

Ganondorf should have an overhaul to all his moveset and be not more a clone from Captain Falcon.

The next three character should be added even above of any other character that could be included:
- Ridley
- King K. Rool
- Little Mac
- Takamaru
- Wars series character (Andy, Sam or Max)

I prefer that this installment there are more new series and retro series represented with characters like:
- Dillon
- Donbe and Hikari
- Harry
- Shulk
- Isaac
- Mach Rider

All of the above characters mentioned should be considered even first than characters from the Mario, Zelda and Pokemon series (those are all right with the current picks and should not be moved).

There should be only one character for each third party nothing more, nothing else.

I´m fine with the inclusion of third parties and I hope in the future they will come back in each installment but keeping the ratio less than 10% of the current roster for the Smash series.

I hope people stop criticizing the decisions of Sakurai as developer and game designer (if you can do a better job then start learning and make your own videogame company), before even see the final product and even without playing this new Smash.

History is a big part of Nintendo and in general sense of the Videogame world so the thing that can bring this game and no other company is classic, retro and obscure characters that could get a spotlight and show what make them unique even after all this time. Series like Mario, DK, Kirby, Zelda and Pokemon should not get more content than we have already got, so there is more a balance and surprise factor and see what could Nintendo bring in the future with interesting characters that have not used.

Kalas from the universe of Baten Kaitos should be a playable character, is one of the most interesting series that have acquired Nintendo in the last years and is a game that was developed by Monolith Soft, so it could get a revival in the new consoles.

I hope the game was only developed in one console so it could exploded its maximum potential, without holding the other in some way or form.

Finally: King K. Rool > Dixie Kong, Ridley > any other character from any represented series, Palutena should be one of the character that have no priority over other characters, Wars series should and need a playable character, one of these characters should be playable Isaac, Shulk or Dillon.

I'll try to keep these short.
-I hate it when Mario tries to act cool. Just face it mario, you're a fruit. Embrace your ridiculous woohoo's and your shameless tendency to jump into weird animal costumes.
-Marth is one of my least favorite (but still liked) Lords. But because hes been given an immunity in both smash and FE, I try my best to have a positive attitude towards him.
-Windwaker is a great game. But I'm still a tad salty about its art style. I don't hate the aesthetics but I just don't like the influence it had on the rest of the series.
-Also on that topic, what the hell were they thinking with the HD remake? HD on a cell-shaded game really doesn't do that much. The biggest change is just adding a bloom to the lighting. I guess the wii U simply needed a zelda game.
-I really don't like King K Rool. Definitely not on my personal list of good appealing character design. Maybe that just goes with the fact that I don't really follow the DK games.
-FE7 gave me high expectations for FE6. I was really excited to play the game but ended up being disappointed (mainly with the story). This opinion reflects harshly on Roy
-I like cuts. As I said it before, it gives each iteration of smash a unique taste while keeping new games fresh. Though, a loss of a unique moveset/style should be avoided if possible.
-Project M is cool and I respect the people working on it and their respective ambitions, but I think its a bit redundant. Okay, maybe that's not the right word but with SSB4 nearing release, all that work in project M will be largely ignored except by a small, dedicated and slightly stubborn group of people. Its a shame really. A plausible but not yet determined shame to be exact.
-I think bandanna dee is cool character.
-Recency is often regarded as a terrible argument here (I even agree) and definitely is if the topic is what should be the roster. But I honestly think Sakurai cares a great deal about the newest titles. But that's not to say that the legends don't live on.
-Red it my favorite color
-I prefer a male Robin as it eliminates the possibility of having a romantic relationship/tension with Chrom and I detest things like fan romances and shipping (goes with either gender). For me its a heroic tactician, not a romance novel!
-I tend to chose the water type starter.
-Streetpass has warmed me up to the idea of having Mii's playable. I support them now.
-I hope pac-man's only appearance is as a stage hazard on a pac-man retro arcade stage.
-I read all of these.

I dislike the fact that Snake was added to Brawl. I feel like he doesn't fit in at all, is too over-the-top powerful, and was only included because Hideo Kojima "practically begged" Sakurai. It reveals the ugly fact that with enough money and pleading, even Sakurai will cave in to the most ridiculous, out-of-place requests and only holds his rules for adding characters as mere guidelines.

-I don't care about Fire Emblem characters. All of the major contenders are sword wielders and that heavily disinterests me. I like to have some magic or staff user from those games. I don't care for Chrom in the slightest.

-Speaking of Fire Emblem, I don't care for Roy either. I never understood what was the big deal with him. Sure, he was in Melee, but he was a cut that I didn't really care for. The only cut I was upset over was Mewtwo.

-I think that Bandana Waddle Dee would make a fantastic addition to SSB4's roster.

-I want Ganondorf's moveset to be completely overhauled with a sword and new special moves.

-I HIGHLY disagree with anyone who says that Luigi's down-special should be the Poltergust. Yes, it matches Luigi's character, but losing the Luigi Cyclone would nerf him and I want the Poltergust to be Luigi's grab. It would give Luigi and Mario more differences that so many people have been asking for.

-Speaking of Luigi's moveset, I like the way it is. I want some changes, but it's absolutely fine to me. Mario and Luigi are twin brothers, of course they are going to have similarities!

-I'm open to some cuts. I wouldn't care if Lucario, Lucas, R.O.B., and Snake were removed. If removing the former three means adding in a character with a more original moveset, then I am game! I personally don't think that Snake deserved to be in Brawl and I wouldn't mind him seeing him get cut (I love his moveset however).

-I don't care that wavedashing was removed.

-I fear that the 3DS will limit the roster size and will cut deserving characters. (I'm praying that won't happen)

-I'm glad that we don't have an Adventure Mode that is like the SSE. It's a blessing really. I also thought that the SSE was highly disappointing. (especially what it did in the long-run)

-I think Prince Fluff would add more variety to Smash than Bandana Dee, but I'd love to see Bandana Dee as an Assist Trophy.

-I think WarioWare (WALUIGI WAS NEVER IN THE WARIO SERIES, HE'S ONLY IN THE MARIO SPIN-OFFS), of all franchises, should gain another rep.

-In addition to the above, I believe 9-Volt is the best choice, despite his lack of popularity.

-I, too, have no feelings towards wavedashing.

-I believe L-Cancel was intentional, but Wavedashing was a glitch.

-I feel that Snake is the most likely to be cut.

--I have a slight, slight preference for Roy if there's going to be a third Fire Emblem character in the game. That said, having lurked pretty extensively pre-Brawl, it's revisionist history to treat Roy's removal from Brawl as a great injustice to the fans when, at the time, most people were expecting him to be gone, and many were completely okay with it to boot. Granted, the guy's worldwide popularity grew exponentially post-Brawl, but beforehand, the day you found a prediction or wish roster featuring Roy was a rare one indeed.

Not an opinion, but a RELEVANT recollection; one of Sakurai's journal entries featured him talking about an encounter with a black man who thanked him profusely for adding Roy into the game, claiming that Sakurai made Roy the perfect character "just for him." After Brawl's roster was leaked, it became a brief GameFAQs fad to post theories about Sakurai being a racist. Ah, seems like it was just yesterday...

- I don't want any cuts, and I'd like to see the return of Dr. Mario, Mewtwo, Roy, and Pichu.
- As much as people may hate that StarFox has 3 reps and no recent games, I'd still like to see Krystal as a playable character.
-- Even if it isn't entirely according to canon, a staff-wielding Krystal would widen the pool of midrange characters.
- Despite these additions, I'd like to see more characters from games that aren't already connected to Smash through reps.
- I think Sakurai will throw us a competitive bone.
-- There's bound to be some leftover stuff from Brawl or some mechanic that can be exploited (hopefully he brought back edgecanceling)
- I don't like Sonic.

- ROB was one my secret wishlist characters pre-brawl and I was really happy when he was revealed.

-I'm more hyped for a Paper Mario stage than Paper Mario being playable himself, and would honestly prefer the series to be represented through stages and an assist trophy. Glitz Pit would be amazing. Especially with an 'audience' of Paper Mario cameos watching the fight.

Here are mine:

• First, I want Victini and I actually think he's likely, due to being Junichi Masuda's favorite Pokémon. I also think Hoopa (the event legendary from the hacker of X/Y) is real and will be the "Rare Poké Ball Pokémon" of this game.
• Even though Ivysaur is my main, I wouldn't mind a new Trainer instead of Red. I would, in fact, prefer May or Dawn over Red.
• I want Tingle, Prince Fluff, Waluigi, and worst of all... Silver the Hedgehog!
• I also want Princess Daisy over any Mario rep other than Waluigi, even if she is a clone of Peach.
• If I could choose to have 4th party characters, I would want to have just one, Superman.
• I don't want RIdley or Little Mac in this game

Okay, just wanted to make sure. I also don't think R.O.B. is going anywhere or that we won't see unlockable characters.

Actually, I'd be content with not getting any other newcomers revealed and having them be unlockable. Pac-Man is an exception, as he's a third party and they're revealed before release .

Wavedashing on the other hand was not put in on purpose, but it was discovered, according to Sakurai in a Nintendo Power interview, by the people working on that game and left in intentionally. This makes said mechanic more of a corner case/exploit rather then a glitch as it was discovered before the game was released and left in on purpose.
