Now I'm truely free of my own consciousness.

- At this point I don't care that we won't have a story mode. Honestly if it was anything like Brawls it would get way too boring anyway. Don't get me wrong I loved SE I just think it was good for Brawl and that's it.
- I do like the Pics of the day but I have a hard time enjoying them without a good/witty caption.
- After looking through my list of wanted newcomers I can honestly say by far, that I am most excited for Andy from the Wars series.
- I miss the trophy lottery from Melee. I really liked the (albeit small) risk involved with it and the excitement of seeing a new trophy.
- Of the three newcomers we've gotten the only one I'm really excited to try out is Villager.
- Again, while I do enjoy the Pics of the day I'd actually prefer not having them and instead only seeing new information from E3 (and the like) because I spend waaay too much time waiting for them and worrying whether or not we'd get a great one. Just think, no Pics of the day and then E3 2014 rolls around and the trailer comes up and it's like "Here's 12 veterans and two newcomers!" That would be glorious.
- The only character I can see that actually has a good chance of being cut is Snake.

-Wii Fit Trainer is not the "random WTF" character this time
-There will be a noticeable increase in the roster size, because
-Casual players account for the grand majority of sales for this game (a sad fact I once dealt with as a Magic player)

-> Given the choice between the two, I would rather all development go to the 3DS version instead of the Wii U version.
-> I would prefer Falco be cut from the roster over Wolf.
-> I would like to see a lot of new items included in the game (and not just pokeball/assist trophy characters)
-> One of my secret most wanted characters is Plum from Mario Golf
-> I would honestly be okay if the number of veterans was 12-15 and the rest of the roster was newcomers.

- Toon Link is complete garbage and should not have been added to Smash 4
- Where it isnt really necessary as Adventure Mode could suffice, Subspace laid the groundwork for what could have been a fantastic expanded addition to Smash 4. Sakurai was just being a childish baby about the cutscenes being put online.
- Sakurai is a terrible decision maker.
- Some of the models (especially Links) look jagged as **** from the low poly count, for an HD console game, and are extremely disappointing.
- Lil Mac should stay the **** out

To get rid of some of the more boring clone like characters, alternate costumes should be used to make one character into another character to try to cut back on the sadness of your character being cut, while allowing more development time on other characters.

I hate, hate, hate the fact that said horrible opinion is standing in the way of gorgeous get-ups like the ones Project M recently implemented. It's also a testament to the sheep-like nature of a faction of the community that, after Sakurai said that in an SSB4 interview, his apologists started coming out of the woodwork to defend the idea, using half-hearted excuses like "Oh, it would be weird with the announcer reading a different name." Who gives a s**t?? Are you not entertained by Shades Diddy beating the s**t out of Dry Bowser? In a game that made its name on fanservice no less??

I half-agree. Sakurai has a handful of horrible opinions, not limited to but including the costumes, the cutscenes, the online leaderboards, doing what he wants under the guise of "trying to do what the silent majority wants," claiming Smash Bros. would not be as successful without his "personal criteria," and potentially viewing Ridley as 'pretty impossible.' However, I'm also willing to give him the benefit of the doubt to some extent; he's probably also responsible for several of the subtle positive decisions within the series thus far, it's just that those aren't ever brought up in interviews with him, so we can't credit them to him. I'd have him retain his current position, just with the responsibility and 'final say' divvied up amongst a small group of developers who can balance out his undesirable impulses, just as he can with theirs.

Seconded. Personally it comes off as pretentious sometimes. Its 2013, time to nut up Sakurai. I do agree that if not for him we probably wouldnt even have Smash, but thats no excuse at all for these haphazard decisions he has.

- L-canceling seems to more of a hindrance than help to competitive gaming and feels like nothing but an exploit in the game mechanics

- It doesn't matter if one of them runs slightly faster, or if oe of thier attacks are 0.25 seconds faster than anothers, the space trio are clones and either need to differentiate themselves or be cut!

- I am so f**king sick of Fox/Falco, final destination, no items!

- Scizor should have priority over other Pokemon for roster inclusion

- Snake will NOT be cut for Smash 4

Shades Diddy and Dry Bowser aren't different characters. Most people ask for ridiculous thing like Lucina over Marth or other things that just replace a character entirely.

Pac-Man is an awful idea for a 3rd-party character and the only arguments that ever support him involve being made by Namco and fitting alongside Mega Man and Sonic as gaming's all-stars when Pac-Man has been a substandard series that has lived entirely off the legacy of the original Pac-Man games and nobody would even bother asking for him if Namco-Bandai wasn't involved in making Smash Bros.

See, I'd be perfectly fine with that too, so long as the hitboxes matched up. Have the voices and name changed if it's that big a deal, but I don't think it is. I just like the extra characters.

- Roy getting in over the Awakening choices
- More focus on the game itself rather than adding in extra things (Newcomers, story mode etc)

-Each 3rd party should get 2 reps so that Sonic and Shin Megami Tensei, Metal Gear and Castlevania, Megaman and Phoenix Wright and Pacman and Tales can all be represented by Sega, Konami, Capcom and Namco, respectively
-Palutena only should be an assist trophy or remain Pit's final smash
-If there is a 3rd FE rep, assuming Chrom is in, it should be Shiida
-Toon Link is only acceptable if he isn't a clone
-Most people only want Jigglypuff back because she was already in all three Smash games, not because they actually want the character
-If Sakurai has taken back control of balancing like this article implies, this game will be horribly balanced like Melee and Brawl because he can't balance a fighter at all

I really don't care who makes it. All that matters to me is that they are unique or are a good representation of what makes Nintendo important at any given time. Sonic and Megaman were even good choices for this, as far as I'm concerned, because having Sonic as a part of all this is like settling something, in a friendly manner, between Nintendo and Sega. As for Megaman, Nintendo is his life. His roots.

Snake on the other hand is COMPLETELY out of left field, but at the same time, that's what made him so... NEAT and cool to see in brawl. I'm sure many saw him as more a character for anything but Nintendo, but in actuality, Snake is as much a goofball, and has as many quirk,s as someone like Mario himself. That may be a bad comparison, because they're from entirely different games, but... Snake loves boxes as much as Mario loves mushrooms. At the same time, though, I do feel there's so much more they could have done with Snake... BUT it's alright

- I think Sakurai is a little overconfident with Villager as far as hype. Having a dramatic reveal In the trailer and a small AC part in the beginning part of the trailer. I know there wasn't much revealed in the trailer, and Megaman counts as a lot. But IDK, something about how they're hyping him just seems a little desperate to me.

- Was not hyped the slightest when Sonic was announced to return, in fact I loathe his new smiling face.

- As far as Smash 4's priorities, It needs to be a respectable and somewhat competitive fighter with Nintendo characters first and not just a wetdream crossover featuring as many things from games of the last gen as possible and maybe some decent gameplay added in there. Because then it's just a flavor of the week type of game that I felt Brawl was.

- Legit and non sarcastic Sora and Goku supporters are the scum of the earth.

- Fox looks bad in smash 4. The bright colors look good everywhere else but fox needs the grungy rusty star wars look and not fabulous bright green pants and a shiny Bee Gees jacket like he does here.

Did I really just criticize a cartoon fox's pants. I think I just did.....sorry.

-- I don't support Ridley because I think he looks absolutely stupid scaled down to size. All of those Brawl mods and fan mockups I've seen of him look awful.

-- Chrom would be such a safe and boring pick and he should stay the hell out.

-- I really don't care for Palutena, or Kid Icarus in general and think it should not get a second character.

There is one I want to add to my list:


-I don't give a **** about alternate costumes. I am not saying I agree with the statement that was misinterpreted (he said custom costumes, people; as in, go into some character editor mode to give Link say, disco pants, a cowboy hat, kimono, etc.), but I don't see anything special about "OMG what Project M did *fapfapfapfap*". For me, the only time costumes are warranted is if a character has multiple iconic outfits (Wario, K. Rool, etc.) or if the character has a male/female option (Wii Fit Trainer, Villager, etc.)

I'm starting to get tired of people constantly praising Project M and bashing Smash 4 in the same breath.

Don't get me wrong. PM deserves all the attention it gets (and maybe even more) but people are too quick to attack Smash 4, I think.

I just want the two communities to live in harmony.

I'm very disappointed that there won't be another story mode like SSE

Given that the rosters have been confirmed to be the same, I'm feeling little motivation to purchase a Wii U when I can just play on my 3DS.

I think Toon Link should have actually been cell-shaded, rather than the Mii-like monstrosity of Brawl that seems to have been recreated for this one.

I don't like Link's new 'older' design.

There is something drastically wrong with Pit's face in the Wii U version of this game.

-I want Impa to replace Sheik
-I want Impa in general

-Wanted Sonic cut
-Don't want PacMan anywhere near Smash
-Was upset MegaMan made it in

-I want Roy before any Fire Emblem Awakening character
-Still sort of think Villager was a lame choice, but I understand him making the cut
-I absolutely LOVE Toon Link
-Wouldn't mind clones at all if it means more characters and the clones actually make sence
-Want Wolf, Falco, Lucas, and Ike and Lucario to stay.
-Wouldn't mind a solo Charizard instead of Pokémon Trainer. But want the Pokémon Trainer to stay Kanto-foccused mostly
-Doubt Ganondorf will be revamped as much as people suspect, and I don't want him to use a sword
-I still see Link as mostly Skyward Sword-based. Also I LOVED Zelda Skyward Sword.
-I want Anthony Higgs before Ridley, and I liked Other M.
-Would also choose Tetra over Sheik, Impa first though
-Snake is the coolest 3rd party character in the game, and the only one I would play
-Mii is a terrible ****ing idea and I never want this to happen ever
-I don't really care for Kid Icarus either, Palutena is a cool choice but am not especially warm for her
-I don't think a Namco character is anywhere likely at all, and would hate to see one make the game
-Really hope that Diddy remains Top Tier so I can annoy the **** out of others with him still
-Also think a lot of these unpopular opinions are actually quite damn stupid
-Despite wanting clones, Dr.Mario should stay FAR AWAY from the roster
-Pichu is cute, and I wanted an evolution mechanic for Pichu / Pikachu / Raichu

-I only don't mind Ridley getting in because his fans aren't so different from Toad fans(whether his fans want to admit it or not); both have been NPCs since Melee(With Ridley appearing in the intro and thus causing confusion to his inclusion and Toad as his reoccurring meat shield role), both are well known characters in their respective universes, and both should of been playable in Brawl.

Also so I never have to hear "Ridley 4 Smash" ever again. Once he's in, he'd be a lock.

-I think Charizard is overrated and am glad he got stuck with his two fellow starters in Pokemon Trainer.

-I'd prefer more characters with some as clones, to having less, but more unique characters.

-I don't hate Pichu and actively enjoyed him in Melee.

-I'm not against the idea of a playable Porky or Petey Piranha

-I don't think Mario is even close to complete until all the popular Mario newcomers are eventually added over the smashes. To a lesser extent, I think Zelda needs a few more characters before I'd consider it complete; especially Tingle, Tetra and Impa.

-I think Lanky Kong is one of the more interesting DK characters.

I have a few more.

- I don't care about the competitive scene. At all. It's all well and good for others, but I'm instantly bored whenever I play on neutral stages with no items and whatnot. When I want a balanced tournament fighter that's 100% skill based, I'll play Virtua Fighter. Smash is supposed to be a chaotic, mindbending slugfest, and that's how I'll always prefer to play it.

- To that end, I like Brawl better than Melee.

- I REALLY liked the concept of mashed-up stages in PlayStation All-Stars, and would have no problem with Smash exploring that. It's already a crossover game, so why not have some Arwings flying around Skyloft? Or some Space Pirates raiding Smashville?

- Nintendo is completely out of characters that would get non-Die Hard fans excited. Mega Man was pretty much the last one, and he's not even THEIR character.

But does that imply alternate characters as costumes such as Roy for Marth, Shulk for Ike, Dixie for Diddy, etc., the custom costumes Golden mentioned, or simply skins for the character? I am quite fond of the idea of skins seen in Project M, they're still the same character in the end, just wearing a different outfit.

- Geno would actually add something unique to smash.
- Bigger series (Mario, LoZ, Pokemon, etc.) should have more reps though it shouldn't go over 6 characters per series.
- DK and Wario are their own series and not lumped under Mario.
- Mii and Pac-Man would not be good characters.
- Roy shouldn't come back.
- Dr. Mario, Pichu and Young Link could/should be alternate costumes.

- Star Fox should only have Fox and Wolf as playable characters.

- Bowser Jr. is the only reasonable choice for a fifth Mario-character.
- Mii and another Pokémon Trainer are terrible ideas.
- I prefer Brawl over Melee.
- Ganondorf should stay a Falcon-clone.

-None of the Melee reps will return. We accommodate space for newcomers. The Melee vets had their time. But if we are going to get them, Mewtwo and Roy should appear together and not one or the other. Preferably as DLC a good amount of months after release.
-Even if Sakurai admits that Melee was his magnum opus, people really need to stop riding its **** so much that you drain its smuck. Same with Project Melee, albeit to a lesser extent.
-I am not welcome to Pac-Man's inclusion to SSB4 unless its very convincing. If he is to get in, any ties to The Ghostly Adventures must be cut off!
-As a follow-up to the above, if we're getting a Namco Bandai rep, Lloyd Irving has a better chance over Pac-Man. Especially since Yoshi.to Higuchi is co-director.
-Sonic doesn't deserve to be back, especially considering Sakurai isn't going to go overboard with 3rd parties. He's had his turn in Brawl and now the crossover value has dulled, unlike Mega Man. NiGHTS or Jack Frost would have been much better characters to represent Sega.
-The only way I will condone Dark Pit is if he has different weapon types and a different Final Smash.
-Kid Icarus deserves a second rep, namely Palutena. If not, Magnus. Uprising gave us so many fresh and unique characters that it would be a waste not to sue one!
-Jigglypuff, or any of the Original 12 for that matter, should never be cut and they won't for this game. I think Jigglypuff provides a unique flavor of Pokemon and I love the obscurity it brings. In fact, I'm open to more obscure Pokemon to get in and not just the 'memorable' ones.
-Fire Emblem deserves at least 3 characters this time. The 3rd slot should be filled by Anna, Tiki, Robin, or even Tharja.
-Lucario, Ike, R.O.B., Pokemon Trainer, Lucas, and Snake should be cut.
-Falco and Sheik should be cut. Besides being favored for their fighting differences, Falco can't do anything else Fox could and Sheik doesn't need to side alongside Zelda for every installment. I don't think we need Impa either.
-Yoshi and Zero Suit Samus deserved to be in the reveal line-up. Something feels missing without them.
-Luigi doesn't truly feel like he's been upgraded until we see a Poltergust 3,000 on his back somewhere.
-Character customization being implemented in the form of interchangeable movesets and to a lesser extent, abilities, will bring new life to the Smash Bros. series. This also provides a new field of metagame for the competitive players.
-Consequently, custom movesets will negate the clone argument altogether.
-Every character should have at least 1 alt. costume maybe with a few recolors if it doesn't hurt.
-If Sakurai doesn't learn from his mistakes and ends up taking full responsibility of balance and frame data and the game ends up being unbalanced again, I will have lost a considerable amount of respect for him as a game designer. And that'll hurt because he's provided me with many of my favorite games.
-The speed will ideally be between Brawl and Melee in the final build. But the gameplay we've seen so far makes that hard to discern and resembles more closely to Brawl.

Is it just me.... or are some of these unpopular opinions not exactly unpopular? Quite the opposite actually...

Guess I'll bite into this as well. I will not be held responsible for any broken friendships or respects you'd lose for me after reading this.

* I actually really don't mind clone characters, so long as they make sense and that their playstyles are different that is.
* I'd actually prefer to have both Toon Zelda and Tetra playable together than just one or the other.
* I would have liked (and preferred) Skyward Sword Zelda over Twilight Princess Zelda playable in Smash.
* I am very happy that Toon Link is back.
* I feel most of the "moveset overhauls" people suggest for Toon Link to be pretty atrocious, I'd rather he'd remain a clone or become a semi clone than to get any of those suggested movesets. Sorry but I just do. :/
* I don't really care too much about either Roy or Chrom. I'd personally take Lyndis and/or Anna over these two anyday.
* I actually legitimately like Zoroark and would certainly love to see her playable in Smash.
* I'd rather have Professor Layton over any other potential third party newcomers.

Eh that's pretty much all I could think of..... Perhaps I might add more at a later time if I can think of more that is... :T

I think Rosalina is just as valid of a pick as Palutena, as they both only had one historic game, and there are many similarities between their role. I would be fine with either one, even if I personally like Rosalina better (bias because SMG is in my top 5 favorite video games.)

Wii Fit Trainer is the newcomer I'm most excited about.
