Falcon shouts manly words like "YEZH" and "C'mown" now whenever he does the falcon dive or punch. Edgar's tourney sounds interesting but i know I'll get owned if we do melee.

UpB has "Show Me Your Moves".

Brawl Minus jiggs is hilarious
And Falcon Punch has flame hitboxes on the fire falcon HAHA
Yeah. It's safe on block, wrecks shields, and if you get hit by it at 0, you'll usually eat 25 from the strong hitbox and then another 30+ from the weak ones. It's pimp.

Watched a Brawl- vid... saw jigg's sing range... found my Brawl- main...
It actually makes ledgecanceled sing worthwhile.

I think it was a problem with the cables/connection. The crew battle was recorded as one video and the audio went from stereo to mono early on in that video. Videos recorded later at the meeting (for instance, the MT vs Tirno friendlies) had stereo again but the sound quality was worse. We can probly avoid these problems by periodically firming up the connections and recording in shorter segments. Getting higher quality cables or not using the splitters would probably help as well.

Also, I could improve the video quality by tweaking settings like resolution and bitrate in Pinnacle Studio. But I can only increase the quality so much until frames start getting dropped/video freezes. So what would really help is a faster laptop.

Btw, this new video editing software I got, CyberLink PowerDirector, should speed up the upload process significantly, it's awesome.

Anyways, whoa, Kage posted another comment--he approves of whoever used his tag. (Kyle, right?)

Our second meeting is this Saturday, 3-10pm, most likely in Welch 1.316 but haven't gotten confirmation for the room yet.

I did send an event proposal for a pot tournament to SALD and they basically approved it. However, we cannot avoid the rule that, when collecting money on-campus, we must use the rolled ticketing procedure.

So here's how we can run money events:
1. Fill out ticket request form and pay $1 for a pack of a hundred tickets Friday before the event.
2. At the meeting, tear in half one ticket per $5 entry fee collected. Save the stubs and keep money in locked drawer.
3. Once the tourney finishes, one officer (I can do it) pays in cash out of his pocket the prize amounts to the top finishers. This would probably be 1st-60%, 2nd-30%, and 3rd-10% of the pot after we take into account a 10% house cut for the club.
4. After the event, we return all ticket stubs to student organization bank and deposit all the entry fees into our account.
5. The officer that gave out the cash prizes gets reimbursed from the club account.

It's basically similar to the way we did the last money event but we would spot the winners their cash prizes, we would not need to bother with getting gift cards in advance, and the club is guaranteed to profit somewhat.

So, not the simple pot tournament procedure I was hoping for but it's an improvement over the old way.

Anyways, the upcoming meeting will feature:
-we'll try out this new procedure and hold a Melee singles tournament with $5 entry fee and CASH prizes! Though I would be open to making it Brawl singles if enough people wish it so.
-informal Smash 64 singles, maybe even Brawl+ singles tourney if we have enough entrants.
-maybe an all-female character tourney in honor of Valentine's Day haha.
-I got Brawl- so we can try that if people are interested (just friendlies).

I wanna try Brawl -!!
And I would still prefer a B+ crew battle over a tourney, but any B+ event I'll be happy to help you set-up.

**** Barlw+. Only Rohan wants to play that!

Clay, is there any way to avoid a 10% fee, or is this required by the university? I suppose a fee is fair, since we do have to pay to host each meeting.

The idea was we could profit from this event a little by taking 10% of the pot for the club and distributing prizes from the remaining 90%, i.e. 60% of that remainder would go to the person that got 1st place, 30% would go to 2nd, etc.

We could use some funds. Each meeting costs maybe $20 ($5 weekend room use fee plus snacks), we currently have effectively I think $40 in our club banking account, and with more funds we could have pizza at every meeting. But, we can get money in other ways besides taking a house cut from these tournaments. Namely, we could do a better job of collecting membership dues.

By the way, the whole idea forming a sort of cosponsorship with Game Over Videogames may not happen--the manager does not sound that interested. That could have been a good source of funds.

edit: About the pizza idea, what if we just pooled some money from everybody at the meeting that wants pizza and then order it? (of course only people that payed would be allowed to have a couple slices)

You mean you don't want to play it...

Seriously, why don't you just leave me the **** alone?
I'm sick of taking **** from you, bother someone else. And I don't care if you're joking or not, just stop.

There are other people that play Brawl+ but nobody besides Rohan prefers it over any other smash game. However, I think there is a chance for Brawl players to be converted to Brawl+, i.e. they could come to choose B+ over Brawl more often than not. The problem is Brawl players see B+ as this weird, maybe messed-up version of a game that they are familiar with and like the way it is. Also, nobody else really plays B+ so they have little motivation or opportunity to ever play it, much less try to get good at it.

But I personally think Brawl+ is more fun than Brawl since it's faster paced and it is possible to combo and edgeguard. I think if people gave B+ a fair chance they would eventually agree. If we manage to get the ball rolling, such as through B+ events, and more and more people become willing to play B+, some kind of B+ community might actually develop.

And maybe learning to like Brawl+ would be like a stepping stone for Brawl players towards learning to like the best smash game, Melee. :p

So what I'm saying is we should see how many people are interested in a B+ event and try to sell the idea a little, and if we get at least 8 entrants we should go ahead and run the event.

Well the main selling point, specifically for the Brawl players, is to not worry about one's lack of experience, just try it out. I think Hector and Vincent would be willing, then you and me, and some other 4 people.
Like, I'll still enter a Melee tournament if there's no money involved just for the experience.

And assuming you're talking about an Austin community, then yes. I think the northeast and west coast have tons of people who at least play B+ as a side game, courtesy of having far more highly reputed smashers than Texas. Like, I seriously doubt a community would form before the end of the semester, and I won't even be playing much competitive smash once I graduate. And JCaesar himself, the guy who organized the B+ tourney at Pound 4, says he only plays B+.

Cry more Rohan. I wasn't clearly joking.

Also, the reason I singled you out is because you continuously post requests for Barlw+ events when you (and perhaps Clay) are the only ones interested in playing it. I'm not being mean. It's not like I called you fat or something. I just made an observation. You are, other than Clay, the only person interested in playing the game.

And don't develop a persecution complex over this. I don't give you **** any more than anyone else. You're like an eight year old. "That's why I'm telling Kal to drop it."

You could just grow a pair and not react negatively to everything everyone says. Cut me a break.

Clay, I don't see anyone really giving a **** about Barlw+. I know it sounds kind of mean and elitist, but the reality is that it's hard to motivate people to take a modded console game seriously. Even though the codes have become very easy to use (even usable without homebrew), I don't see it happening. Adding to this the very casual nature of the Barlw players, and the fact that they don't even give a **** about Barlw tournaments, I can't see them wanting to play Barlw+, let alone play in Barlw+ events.

Also, the argument that one does not need to worry about his "lack of experience" isn't really true. Melee skill translates pretty well into Barlw skill, provided the Melee player learns Barlw specific strategy, and I'm sure the same holds for Barlw+. Regardless, this shouldn't be a factor for anyone wanting to compete in a game. The "it's a new game so I can win at it" mindset is scrubby nonsense.

i can definitely see that. and yea arent modded games not taken as much seriously in like tournaments and stuff? i mean after all it is modded so maybe not everybody can get used to the change. and besides, i thought rohan was on ur ignore list kal lol

but seriously rohan, kal, please stop arguing in the forum. if yall have something to say, just say it to each others face at a freakin meeting. every time one of yall say something, the other always seems to retaliate and its getting ridiculous. arguing in a forum against somebody u know irl......w/e

Maybe if we spark a little interest in some new people for B+, they could spark some interest in others since they see that others like the game and they actually have people to play it with, and it could create a positive feedback loop leading to many people becoming B+ players. But this is hypothetical; it would be quite difficult to get that initial group interested in this modded game that nobody plays, even if it is in fact more fun than Brawl. I won't be surprised if B+ never surpasses its current minimal level of popularity.

Also, I think we should test out Brawl- in friendlies before we try a tournament. But, of course, we will try to run any event that people at the meeting clamor for.

You're really missing the point. The idea in having a B+ event is to GET people interested in the game, I say that almost every time I request one, what about that do you not understand?
Just having the set-up there all this time has at least made people curious about it so far, give it a chance.
And why can't someone just enter an event for fun?

i wouldnt mind entering i guess for the hell of it. but rohan, do remember that we do put we have a Brawl+ setup in the emails. assuming they read the emails passed the date and time lolol, then they know we have it. it's up to them whether or not they want to play it. if they don't care for it, not like we can actually hold an event for it.

if i were a Melee player (lets just laugh for a second at how ridiculous that sounds), i probably wouldnt care too much for Brawl+ b/c its modded. im pretty sure theres mods for Melee, but hardly ever see it. or at least i dont lol. i mean its not like you're playing the actual game, just a version of it unlike Melee at the meetings. what im trying to say is that in a Melee's player perspective PROBABLY, Brawl+ aint all that 'legit' to them. then again i could be thinking about this the wrong way?

ok how about a do over? lets just start this again! its hard to find people to take Brawl+ seriously i guess haha

Well thats exactly why I'm not asking for any B+ event to be a main event. Like, it wouldn't make sense to advertise a Melee low tier tourney, its more something just for fun.
That's really all I'm expecting right now. Maybe it'll catch on, maybe it won't. But at least there's proof that there's people out there willing to pay money to play B+.

btw Kal, please bring my copy of Soul Calibur 2 to the meeting. Thanks!
I think I left it on the couch by the big TV upstairs, should be in its case.

but seriously rohan, kal, please stop arguing in the forum. if yall have something to say, just say it to each others face at a freakin meeting
I really don't want to argue AT ALL, I'm sick of it. I'd rather this debate never be brought up again, which is why I reacted the way I did.

You're absolutely right Andrew
I'm not interested in a modded version of a game I already don't like. I'm sure there are small things about B+ I could enjoy, but not enough to keep my attention. I would enter an event though, just b/c it wouldn't hurt to try
The only Melee hacks people make are usually for sound effects (Falco/Fox's reflector) or changing background music

And I just got my dreamcast from Houston, we can play the original soul calibur HAHA
I'm working on getting power stone 2, which is an awesome game btw

Well there you go, I don't expect to convert a lot of people for the reasons aforementioned, even if I hope thats the ultimate result, but it still doesn't hurt to have an event if people will enter.

If so I would definitely appreciate it if they could let me use ^_~ ;; Can't play brawl otherwise.

I believe you have to send your Wii to Nintendo to fix that, Edgar's has (had?) the same problem.
