Why would Sakurai put in Zamus? She is the same character as Samus. It seems like a waste of a character slot, until you peice together the clues.

Sheik was a very popular Melee character. Yet all the characters returning in Brawl are being remodeled after their latest Nintendo incarnation. Wario from WarioWare, Fox from Command, Link from Twilight Princess, etc. So maybe Zelda will be completely redone to fit her role in Twilight Princess. Maybe she will have a new transformation into a new alter ego or maybe she will lose transformation all together. Thus Sheik would have to go.

But Sheik is another female character and she was arguably one of the most popular characters to play as. So how does Sakurai solve this? He is a smart man, that Sakurai. He probably asked his team to find a similar playing female character and Zamus came to mind. Her suit even looks kinda similar. Instead of the Sheik symbol on the back, she now has a Metroid symbol. And Zamus could share the same stats, use similar weapons (such as the whip and a projectile), and have a similar playing style. And the number of female warriors would not go down. Success!

Yes Zamus does have different moves. I watched the trailer. But I am not saying Zamus is an EXACT copy of Sheik, but merely a fixed version of the same kind of character. A light, speedy combo character.

I also think she will be a separate selection from Samus. She is preserving a fighting style, a popular one. Thus there is no need for her to have any connection to her armored version.

No! I want shiek AND zamus, why people think a character that looks like another character is going to replace it? I hate people.

If it's on IGN, then it MIGHT be true.

Just, WHY Solid Snake (Ahaha.) ! This doesn't make any sens with the fact Nintendo as always tried to choose character they themselved created to put in SSB and Melee. A sequel with third party characters ? I guess Darth Vader and Sonic as a chance to be there (since also Sonic is one of Wii's main title),
Well, actually Nintendos been expecting 3rd party joinings, because other companies have herd of the games and it's poularity, and they want in on it! They even hinted at sonic!

I've thought about this for long periods of time... how exactly should samus (and maybe even other characters like gannondorf) transform if the don't have a "Transform" command like a Down B. And then poof, it hit me.

In the trailer we see samus fire a huge charged shot doing this is what causes her to transform, yes? Well what if that isn't a speacial move, what if that is something similar to marth and roy's neutral B moves an attack thats been charged for a rediculous amount of time and then released. I mean looking at the trailer you could see how it makes sense.
(of course the move in question for the transformation is samus' neutral B, her charge beam, and I see the mega blast used in teh trailer as an exadurated version of the "hold down B" shot.)

Even in uncompeditive play Marth and Roy's B moves were extremely hard to connect with as a result no one really aims to reach the peak of the move.
Also, I'm sure, Sakurai took notice of the sheik transformation, and acidental lack of balance gave zelda playerd the ability to become one the the strongest characters in the game by simply pushing a button.

Having samus transform by holding the B button longer than it would take to reach a fully charge would would be a way to sort of kill to birds with one stone. Now you have a move that may take 6 or 7 seconds to charge to completion, but you gain a new character a new play style. but at the same time do don't instantly achive this, you have to get yourself into a situation where you can wait those 7 seconds.

I think it's a niffty route to take instead of the ones the poll displays.

I don't think Samus should transform straight into to Zamus or Zamus should have to ability to transform back into samus. I don't have any real reasons but asa cool as the super blast is, I don't think it would fit well, it would probably come off as overpowered.

Oh no...

I would hate this kind of transformation.
I wanna play as Zamus as a "real" character, which you can choose in the "choose your character- screen" or by putting a button like A while loading the Stage. Anything like this, I just want to have a character, which you can play whenever you want!
Thats all...
To wait seven seconds is really difficult, when you think of melee. Your opponent will attack you while the seven seconds for sure.

Thats my opinion.

...

Sorry for my english ^^

Doesn't this ruin the point in Zamus being the same character? You can't really "transform at will", so it'll cause the Shiek-but-not-Zelda problem people have, Shiek and Zelda were designed to be played strategically depending on situations, no one really uses this, so they try and fix it. Waiting 7 seconds to transform DEFINITELY doesn't fix the problem, it just discourages people from swapping strategically.

So youre saying you dont want to see her in competitive play? It would be near impossible to get that time when playing 1v1 especially when your opponent knows exactly what youre doing.

Yea, the 'super charged blast' idea is slightly unbalcaned, as who would or could charge up for that long without getting interupted. Zamus would basically be never used.

Also, I'm sure, Sakurai took notice of the sheik transformation, and acidental lack of balance gave zelda playerd the ability to become one the the strongest characters in the game by simply pushing a button.
umm.... Shiek may be high tier character, but so are fox and falco, so there is not really any lack of balance for the zelda player, as shiek is just another character....

Hmm. If Samus/Zamus end up being a Sheik/Zelda sort of deal (2 characters in one), I would imagine the transformation being controllable but permanent. Something like <3's 'overpower' idea, but once Samus becomes Zamus, she can't switch back. This way, you could be Samus as long as you wish until you decide to be Zamus; that, and none of Samus's moves would have to be changed around. Also, say you don't wanna play as Samus at all? Well, that's why there should be a 'Hold A' type function to be Zamus at the very start - unable to switch into Samus.

This would, in a sense, appease both the one-time-transformation people (those who voted for damage, super smash, etc.), and the people who'd want them to be separate characters altogether.

Still, I voted for separate characters.

I'm exagurating on times a smidge, but if jiggs can sleep people and wake up before the get back I'm sure samus could hold down the b button for an extra second. You also forget you can cancel your charge at anytime and continue it later.

yes but with sleep the opponent isknocked back, often killed, if you miss you're buggered, Zelda's downB does no attack whatsoever so you're screwed.

Here's a novel idea, make Zamus' super smash be the blast. Here's how it will happen:

Zs grabs the smash icon
Zs is surrounded by pieces of her armor beamed down or something
the armor forms Samus
Samus super charges
Samus fires blast
Armor falls off

Voila! You have the super blast AND Zs at the same time!

Or samus could just teleport it off her like she does in MP2 at the end...

The idea that the super attack was the blast was the first idea people had from the intro, people don't like that because you'd need items on to get Zamus and she'd never be in tourney's

is it possible that eveyrone could reach a certain damage and then transform into a state of weakness (and sort of "finish him" thing like mortal kombat), like say you get to %200 and then you have to transform into this weak form, where you're attack do less damage you can't use special moves or something, like mario could lose his hat, link could lose his sword/ shield, pit could lose his bow or something, but i agree with one thing someoen said in another thread, nintendo only used Zs to put boobs on the box

I would hate that 'weakness' thing. For one I hate Mortal Kombat (Replacing c with k died a while ago anyway) so adding something straight from thr MK series would probably kill smash.

Yeah...that wouldn't work. Especially since Zamus looks like she's going to be quite effective in combat.

I'm still down for 'Optional but permanent alternate method that doesn't take up a special slot'.

As long as ZS isn't a clone I won't care. Unless a lot of unnecessary steps have to be taken to transform, then I'd be pissed.

I know that this has most likely been said, but I think Samus should have access to her Varia Suit at her own convience (Sheik/Zelda fashion). So that you can make room for "Dark Samus" a persistent adversary full of phazon radiation.

I haven't read anything in the thread 'cept for this page and the first, so this might have already been said.... But I think this would be a good idea maybe for samus: have a charge attack like samus' charge shot that turns normal samus into v suited, and when you are transformed the charge move/all moves would be changed.

edit: lol someone already suggested it on last page..

I don't think Samus and ZS should be one character, I would much rather have them separate to make things less complicated. I want to be able to have an all ZS match if I so choose.

How about just making her taunt change betwen Samus/Zamus?

Edit: I noticed that this has been suggested occasionally throughout the thread, but no one's replied to those suggestions (at least from the 10 or so pages I've looked through).

I never saw them, but I want Zamus and Samus to be separate so I can make a Zamus and Samus team match or 1 vs 1. along with other crazy matches.

But if they can transform at will then it won't be the same, it would be a Samus/Zamus + Samus/Zamus vs whoever, match. I don't want that, I normally play crazy matches with every character but I couldn't with Zelda because instead of having it as an all Zelda match it was an all Zelda/Shiek match.

Another thing is that one move that would have ot be taken out in order for Samus to transform to Zamus could completely alter how good the character would be.

Imagine Fox/Falco without their reflectors, no more shines right?
Samus without her bombs, no more bomb jumps.
Link without his up + B (just an example, let's say it was replaced by another, less versatile recovery move), worse edgeguarding.

I could go on and on, but I want Samus to remain the way she is and Zamus to be a 100% different character, and judging by this poll 840 more people do as well.

I've got no idea if this has been said but, here it comes

I don´t like the idea of having to have items on to be able to play as Zamus, and if you'd have to do something special to change samus to zamus (like reaching certain percentage or something) then you couldn´t play just as zamus. I like the idea of having them 2 separate chars cause then you just choose the one you want to be.

It would also be weird if samus could turn into zamus since the armor is gone, in pieces, whatever

maybe it should be like once your damage has reached a certain percent, you have to push like right on the D-Pad to transform.

That wouldn't be that good, especially around pros or really good players. They won't let you transform especially if they know that you (try to) use Zamus.

Because Zelda and Shiek are still the same character, and the same problems would persist.
