It ain't just the males though. There's a handful of female artists out there too that get off on the idea of young anime boys being boned by their own mothers. I don't necessarily see it as a male or female dominated community being a cancer to said community. It's just questionable and disgusting people whether they are male or female being a cancer to said community.

There is one thing that can be done: Not getting affected by other people on the internet.

NSFW fanart have been around for a long long time now and is present pretty much everywhere, no matter the franchise. "The Internet is for Porn" goes the old adage. Thats just how it is if you put a bunch of hormone filled primates infront of the internet. Seeing that pedophilia (even as a tendency) is pretty frequent, you could even view it on a more positive note that many people use fictional cartoon characters to satisfy their needs. For fictional characters, age really is "just" a number.

Just avoid them. Those folks usually tend to stick to their circles and don't garner much attention, as it should be. It would be unfortunate to make your decision based one a niche group of people you can't stand.

And y'know, I don't disagree at all. You hit the nail on the head. I fully support freedom of speech and expression even if there is some ugliness to them but I do also believe that their artistic creations do speak volumes of who these people really are deep down. I don't have to like it but it's hard not to let it get to me sometimes. Just a personal thing I guess.

When having this kind of discussion my mind often wanders to the hypothetical question: 'What would happen if the internet just shut down tomorrow?'. I don't know but if that were to happen, I wouldn't want any of these people near our schools or our playgrounds. I don't ****ing trust them.

But who's to say that one's own morals are the rightful ones? Maybe the true monster is oneself, trying to tarnish everything and everyone that goes against ones own ideal. May the hammer of justice smite down on everyone unconditionally to create a perfect world, rid of any potential evil.

My tidbit wasn't serious, just exaggerated drama for the fun of it. That said, we were talking about lewders on the Internet, not actual criminals that actively harm others. For the majority of countries fanart is still legal, even if its content is severly graphic.

But alas, we are straying from the actual topic. So, I don't hear much support for Reimu here. Let' change that, shall we? Go Reimu! Or any other Touhou character. Not like we have a lack of female representation in that franchise. Its like the antithesis of male dominance without succumbing to fanservice.

Touhou is already amazing for Smash; indie rep, female, fighting style, damn, the possibilities. If only everyone else would warm up to her a bit more.

Iconic is a slippery slope, as it's this weird blend between objective and subjective ideas. And importance is a hard thing to quantify as well.
Besides, if those were all that mattered, we wouldn't have fan favorite characters like Ice Climbers.

At the very least, Ice Climbers were the main characters of their games and were included for a special specific reason (Sakurai wanted a character to represent the one-off NES games).

Someone like Ashley is just kind of a side character within another side character's spinoff of a spinoff series. She's cute, but she's no more important than any of the other WarioWare crew. It's not surprising Sakurai just seems to view her as AT material at most.

I wouldn't say Nintendo or Sakurai is ignoring them. Unless we have cold hard evidence for this fact, like Sakurai straight up admitting it or something, I don't think it's fair to make a claim like that.
These female/minority characters that Sakurai is "ignoring" have likely either never crossed his mind or have an actual reason to be not being included.

That's the nature of this unpleasable fanbase. One minute he gives them the characters they want, but then has to attend to a character other people really want, then this surprise character comes up and becomes just as requested. It's hell for Sakurai.

Harada is the Team Head everybody should aspire to. Not only is he happy to interact with fans, but the moment people bombard him with a character request (like Kiryu Kazama from Yakuza) he not only refuses to put him in, but goes to his other fighting game teams and ask them not to put their respective "most requested characters" in.

Not only is he happy to interact with fans, but the moment people bombard him with a character request (like Kiryu Kazama from Yakuza) he not only refuses to put him in, but goes to his other fighting game teams and ask them not to put their respective "most requested characters" in.

If more games devs were like Harada, Twitter would be a better place for people following games.

Indeed. Japanese culture is all about being polite and pleasant to the customer, which can be seen with Sakurai; Harada on the other hand is an exception to that norm, being sassy and firm.

I'm all about devs giving people what they want but they also deserve to indulge into their own artistic vision, it's their project after all; which is why I find it funny when people get mad on the internet at picks like Wii Fit Trainer and Piranha Plant.

Although him and I go way back, I don't want to speak too much for Fatman but what I can say for sure is that there's no female that has been rumored or speculated amongst his sources and himself for either #5 or even post-pass, unfortunately.

Who cares? That's for you to decide. If you want to dig deeper into his theories and speculations then go do some digging and read his posts in the Geno thread. Maybe that will help give you some closure however, no females are mentioned.
