So you actually settled in Japan. Interesting. Did you need to apply for citizenship or did that work out via the marriage? I heard that its not easy to really get "in" to Japan as a foreigner. I'm not really sure where I see myself in the future, though I am pretty open as to where I live.

I'm currently living in Shimizu-ku, pretty near the Shizuoka Kenritsu University. Not sure if I ever get used to going up those steep hills but then again, this makes for a good workout.

No, I’ve retained my American citizenship but I have Permanent Residency so there’s no need to renew my Visa. Yeah, you’ll always be the foreigner but once you get past that and learn to accept it; things are not that difficult. Where we live is extremely countryside so I obviously get lots of stares but people tend to be a lot more friendlier Like we have a neighbor who came over yesterday saying she saw some cute pajamas for our newborn and wanted to bring them over. Mind you, we just moved into our new house in November. People tend to more colder and distant in bigger cities.

I had a similar experience with the neighbours here in Shimizu. They invited us to festivals and even brought us food and drinks in our first week. It was almost an uncanny feeling to have strangers being this friendly.
