I used to think like that but actually reading one changed my mind. It's still amazing how a bunch of kids playing volleyball can be more absorbing than a lot of action manga around.

If it were up to me (I'm a huuuuuge Pokemon fan btw) I'd completely get rid of IVs as the "hidden value" that makes Pokemon inherently different from one another.

Seriously, what genius at Game Freak decided to make Pokemon inherently stronger or weaker as the deciding factor to make them all unique? That's horrifying! And it's led to weirdos who constantly farm eggs of Pokemon and releasing / trading away Pokemon that don't have perfect IVs. Say what you will about those players but if Game Freak didn't include those values then no one would ever be incentivized to even participate in PokeUgenics.

Game Freak has the tech to do something different these days. I propose a separate section in their status screen that's part of the "Nature / characteristic / EV growth" page that lists a randomized combination of a bunch of personality descriptors. Like the "likes to relax" "proud of its power" thing but beefed up and expanded to full paragraphs in a way that fits the Pokemon specifically (so we don't get unintentionally funny lines like how Magikarp "likes to run"). That solves the problem of making every Pokemon unique in a non-problematic way.

Yeah that annoys me a lot. It's also why Im generally not against genning competitively legal mons for the most part. Despite them wanting the IVs to make pokemon unique unless you have 5 or 6 perfect IV mons in competitive your team is going to be in a bad place from the start and the only solution is to throw it to the side and breed a whole new team.
Where even breeding for your wanted stats and moves and abilities, etc all then boils down to RNG making things a whole timesink with throwing away any mons that arent useful for further breeding or what you want.

Even past that it's super hidden from the player until the vague things from the latest few gens which meant without hacking we wouldn't even know WHY one person's blastoise is much weaker than someone else's.

It's a giant issue with the series imo and they have only taken baby steps to make it better. Even the bottle caps that are supposed to help are locked behind a level grind and having to hope the RNG favors you enough to actually get any.

Yusuke Murata draws action so well that it's not even funny. I'd say I'll check it out, but I'm already trying to catch up with another 300+ chapter manga.

Though it feels good reading a shounen that doesn't have demons once in a while.

I just learned this now so before I forget I would like to share something I found amusing. In Mother 3 there's a song called "Isn't this such a Utopia!?" and the Smash remix is called "You Call this a Utopia!?" so it's kind of like the Brawl Remix is answering the title of the OG version. I kind of found it funny.

Smash introduced me to Kid Icarus, Fire Emblem pre-Awakening, and Bayonetta (which is now one of my favourite series). Yeah, I was never the biggest gamer until Smash dropped into my life. Mostly because games = expensive.

You forgot Dai from Dragon Quest. It's an okay roster so I hope the DLC characters help round it better. I get the feeling they purposely avoided characters from comedy series this time around (though the inflation of DB/OP/Naruto/Bleach/Hunter characters doesn't help either).

Give me Koro-Sensei, Bobobo, Medaka, Gintoki, Toriko, and another MHA character at the very least.
