Some jobs you can't really apply directly even if its your field, sometimes you have to apply and get into a different position within the same company and move to that position later.

My only addition to the conversation is that the job you WANT isn't always immediately available. So take the job you can GET until it is. Apply to everything, not just the ones you want.

I worked for almost two years at a ****ing Plato's Closet because there were no tech companies hiring when I moved to Oregon and Plato's was the first place to give me an interview. I don't give a **** about clothes, but I learned the job, got good at it, eventually became assistant manager, afforded a better apartment, then had a much better job come my way. But that Plato's job helped me take care of myself in the meantime and be ready for the next opportunity.

Don't get hung up on the idea that you need to thoroughly enjoy your job. Sometimes a job is just a job. You should enjoy your career but lots of people take jobs they don't love before they can get to that point. Every occupation needs someone to fill the role.
