I'm still ****ing mad we Europeans never got Starfy's one English game. Australia got it though and we have the same ****ing region, so why the hell did they not release it in Europe?

I think another difference there is that Microsoft is still promoting Banjo, they're just not making anynew games. He's still present in promo material such as with the Game Pass, he's still being referenced and making cameos in other Microsoft titles. I don't think it's a stretch to say Microsoft isn't completely uncaring about Banjo.

True, but the series itself is still in a weird position, where the only reason it's still somewhat relevant (for now) is b/c of rereleases.

So it's kinda like Geno/Isaac, but a bit better since Rare Replay is rereleasing the games.

i always took this way more as 'steve definitely isn't in' than 'banjo is in'

which tbh is half the reason i'm skeptical we're even getting a microsoft rep at all

If we get a Resident Evil character in THIS Fighter pass it'll probably be Leon. If we get a second or third Fighter's Pass it COULD be Jill but I'm still pretty solid on Leon. The only thing I feel could tip it in Jill's favor would be if Resident Evil 3 Remake comes out next year.

Right now Leon being in 2 and 2 REmake, being the main character in Resident Evil 4, being A main character in 6; of which 6, 4 , and 2 are the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th best selling games in the franchise, being the lead character in ALL the animated movies, having a new game come out very recently, and being one of the more popular characters in the franchise throws Leon REALLY high up on the totem of RE characters.

I feel like if we do get Jill, and it's not unlikely, she'll be a costume or Echo.

And yet Leon has never been in a vs Capcom game

DaybreakHorizon Actually, i’m pretty sure a Halo dev said Master Chief wasn’t DLC.

That would literally leave Banjo. Honestly, the ease of contact and meeting makes me doubt a western character, and i’m frankly not alone in that. vaanrose seems to share the “western devs probably won’t get in” camp. Not to stoke the fires of “sides”, but we just don’t see it.

Granted, again, I can’t come up with another top tier Japanese gaming series, especially if it does end up being 1 per company, unless Hayabusa gets in as a Koei Tecmo character.

Still processing the fact that I was 100% wrong with what were basically the safest bets ever.

I expected a proper Smash Direct. We didn't get that. (It's not named as such, so it doesn't count)

And with us having really only a day to get ready for Joker, that's actually close enough to being a shadowdrop, the complete opposite of what I expected.

Don't get me wrong, I'd prefer Banjo over Steve any day of the week.

I think the, "Can't get in because the character is from a Western company" is big dumb.

Like, you telling me they can communicate with Microsoft to get Xbox Live, Cuphead, Minecraft, probably Ori, very likely Rare Replay, and possibly Games Pass, but getting licensing for a character in Smash is just impossible? Because they're from a different country? I highly doubt that. Otherwise Shovel Knight, Rayman, Shantae, etc. Wouldn't be in the game at all.
