@PolarPanda heard a guy tell him he'd heard about Banjo being in from someone who was close to Microsoft and Xbox (Phil Spencer follows him on Twitter) and that the same person had told him Steve was definitely out. While this person later backtracked, it made many (myself included) seriously consider the possibility of Banjo being in over Steve.

Same thinking as many here, but it just seems that it primarily disconfirms Steve and only adds a rumor from a single source from a source in favor of Banjo. The fact that he backtracked means is something with not much ground to stand on at the moment.

Weren't there Rareware Spirits found in the code, or is that just a rumor?

I was just thinkin, now that we know dlc characters bring Spirits.

There were no Rare spirits but rather text indicating them for classification, these were found alongside Devil's Third ones which could indicate a mistake from the people that added them. Nothing is conclusive. (I wonder why people keep ****ing forgetting about the ****ing spirits of Devil's Third when mentioning the ****ing Rare spirits)

In Persona 5, the thieves get to someone's Palace in the cognitive world by inputting their name, the location their Palace is at, and what they view said place as (for example, the first target of the Phantom Thieves was "Suguru Kamoshida, Shujin Academy, a castle") into an app, and then the app takes them to the Palace.

So, like a Star Trek transporter....

(On Verge's part, he couldn't interpret a line of code for Ratholos (EndDragon)." With Steve out of the picture, Halo and Cuphead practically being disconfirmed by their creators, we're only left with Banjo and Kazooie, who are mysteriously never discussed for Smash by employees without being forced to delete their comments.

Also apparently there was some ambiguously credible leaker named Indie Gamer Chick who said Nintendo approached Rare over Banjo and it led down to Microsoft wanting to take things further. She deleted her original post, which means she was forced to delete it or she was like, "Hmm. Maybe not." This gal is someone I'm pretty iffy on so I'm not using it heavily for Banjo. My hope really started with PolarPanda.

Polar's source said 1 person told him Banjo was in and 1 person said Steve 100% wasn't in. There was reason to believe Banjo because of it.

While Sakurai may be a bit hesitant when contacting devs with a language barrier, he's still come over to E3 with a translator so if he wants Banjo-Kazooie or another Western character, I'm sure he'll get them. He may have even done some talking for Shovel Knight as an AT, or had Nintendo help him.
