Not gonna lie, a line up with obvious and predictable 3rd parties would be highkey disappointing. A huge part of what made Smash 4 DLC so special is that it had a lot of characters come out of the left field. Ryu, Cloud, Corrin, Bayo, and I doubt people thought they would ever see the return of Mewtwo, Lucas, and especially Roy.

TBH, the only one people are expecting are Erdrick and that's only because he was leaked. While some people are expecting Banjo, he's nowhere near a safe bet as Erdrick is and is only speculated because Microsoft and Nintendo are now best buds who make out in the supply closet. The other two characters are unknown and Joker was a complete surprise.

I think he’s possible but unlikely. Considering the love we saw them give the series yet it didn’t have a playable rep, I feel like capcom or Nintendo are content with this and felt they didn’t need to use a playable character to rep the franchise

Honestly, none of the DLC so far has been predictable choices. We got Piranha Plant, which was on nobody's radar at all, period, then we get Joker, who people wanted, but nobody actually ever expected.

And now we're gettin' Erdrick, who was a no-show in speculation until he was leaked.

TBH, the biggest reasons I even became interested in Mortal Kombat 10, Injustice 2, and Tekken 7 was because of the guest characters. MKXL had the horror movie icons which were ****ing dope. Made Texas Chainsaw Massacre worth wasting my time on. Injustice 2 had the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES *GUITARS* TURTLES COUNT IT OFF. Tekken 7 had ****ing Walking Dead for some reason and I loved it. Best part about it.

If we got third parties for this entire wave of fighters, I'd be down for it.

Different strokes, different folks.

At least the TMNT made sense, as they are owned by the same parent company and make frequent crossovers with DC characters like Batman.

Walking Dead Guy made zero ****ing sense.

Saying Erdrick is likely is a reasonable conclusion to make b/c of the word "Brave" and the various leakers.

Erdrick is not a lock, not by a long shot.

Banjo and Steve are definitely not locks b/c we have no idea if Microsoft is even doing anything w/ Smash.

And if anyone else claims another character besides the ones mentioned above or a Square rep to be a lock in a non-ironic manner, then I honestly can't take you seriously.

In my irl group of friends everyone says "I'd be surprised if Steve wasn't added, makes sense"

If I weren't such a Resident Evil fanboy, I'd be in the "Nintendo first" group. While outsiders are intriguing because of the seeming randomness and the appeal of including them in a game we never imagined they'd be in, there's also something to be said about Smash being a Nintendo game made for Nintendo fans. By putting their fingers into a bunch of other pies, there's a high chance that few or none of the DLC selections would interest someone who bought into Smash Bros. for the Nintendo icons.

I liken it to Netherrealm not once, not twice, but three times filling a DLC slot in their Injustice games with Mortal Kombat characters. Then filling DLC spots in their Mortal Kombat games with five horror movie icons. Like... I bought Injustice to play as DC characters. I bought Mortal Kombat to play as Mortal Kombat characters. Why the **** are you spending time on this other ****?

Just speaking for myself personally, but yeah, I have to agree. I'm much more interested in many more Nintendo characters as newcomers than I am for many other third parties, and while I might look into Persona and Dragon Quest someday, I have to admit that, as it stands, I'm not all that personally interested in playing as Joker or Erdrick .

To each their own, though. And besides, with all the Nintendo characters already present in Ultimate? If they go all out with third-parties, even if it's exclusively characters I know jack squat about, I'll survive. I'm still blown away that I can finally play as K. Rool, who disappeared for about a full decade prior to this. And htat's in addition to Ridley and Isabelle, so that's three of my most wanted down, all in addition to every fighter from previous Smash games rejoining the battle at long last. I'll remain satisfied no matter who else is in this DLC lineup.
