So your saying I have to worship Minecraft or else I'm doing something wrong. I'm not allowed to not like a game and not want it in Smash or else I'm doing something wrong........

Okay, let me put it in more objective terms. Steve in Smash is like putting a Fidget Spinner in Smash. THAT'S why it feels wrong. It feels like we took a trend, extended it WAY past it's allotted lifetime, and now we're honoring it like it's actually amazing.
you don't have to enjoy mc nobody is saying that

the only thing i'm saying is that you're acting as if everyone who likes it and wants it in smash is making a mistake

that's incredibly disingenuous and acting as if anybody with different opinions than you is wrong is very, very, very arrogant

Didn't we do this exact same thing last week?

Everybody, leave SnakeFighter64 SnakeFighter64 to their opinions.

SnakeFighter64 SnakeFighter64 try to be less aggressive and authoritative with those opinions.

Now let's talk about how the Wii U was a stupid ****in name.

Steve is a gaming icon.
THAT'S the problem here. He is not a gaming icon, never deserved to become a gaming icon, and should not be a gaming icon. Meme's and trends are not a good reason to immortalize something like this.
Maybe people like trends because their content is actually quality?

Smash Bros. Is a fighting game for video game characters. Why wouldn’t Steve belong?
See above. And the content is not quality. It's shallow, poorly designed, poorly controlling trash (I've actually played Minecraft, so this is an informed opinion), that only caught on because it was easy to exploit in the YouTube algorithm.
That’s the thing about Smash, though, isn’t it? Pretty much any game character can be made to have a place. I’m not a fan, as I said, but I’d be interested in how Sakurai and Co. would create a moveset based on his game. I can say the same about a lot of characters I am not into.
Not when we potentially have limited spaces and there are other more deserving characters. I'm not just talking Banjo. ANY other character belongs here before Steve. He should be the LAST option explored.

Yeah how stupid were Nintendo?

They actually should've called it the "New Wii"

As someone who has personally not played Minecraft, I can see why it’s such a successful game. Friends of mine played it consistently years ago, and they have fond memories of it. If I were more of a PC gamer, I may have also played it.

That’s not why I don’t expect him in Smash though, there are better reasons than me not playing it. What I will say, to my understanding, is that vanilla Minecraft and Steve’s vanilla design are...jarring, when it comes to putting them in Smash. That’s just my opinion, of course.

At this point, I personally feel many arguments in favor of Steve work for a good handful of 3rd party gaming characters that aren’t yet in Smash. Sure, Steve is an icon. But so are Dante, Leon Kennedy, Jill Valentine, Crash Bandicoot, Heihachi, and a variety of others.

Then again, I don’t think the Steve support is entirely inauthentic. I simply believe recent upticks came from “leaks” and unfortunately these “leaks” aren’t entirely substantiated. It’s pretty much, “Rando on Internet says it’s happening, so it’s more likely than X” which is faulty on its own.

This has nothing to do with liking Minecraft though.

On the other hand, I will say that when somebody says “I don’t like it” the worst thing you could do is invalidate what they think and then say, “Whatever, idc, I like it” and then post a meme or picture. That more or less belittles what the other person says. I recommend a more, “Why” type of questioning as simply approaching the “what” defensively.

I mean, I’m fine with their opinions, just the blatant mindless hate is a bit much. I’d just like to state my opinion on the matter, ya know.

Not related to the name, but if you want to capture the state of such a system:

That's just your opinion. Minecraft is actually critically acclaimed by many, with the original PC version rocking a solid 93 on Metacritic, and can be constantly found on many greatest games of all time lists

Pfft. Memes. That's not why he's a gaming icon. He's insanely recognizable and among merchandise everywhere. That's what makes him a gaming icon. Don't let your bias cloud the facts here. Yes, he is one. You don't have to like it at all. But that doesn't mean it isn't the case whatsoever. The game isn't for you, and that's fine. But dismissing how big of a game it is and how influential it is is just being silly here.

Then can SOMEBODY explain why? I tried it and had such a poor experience with it, and even conceptually it dosn't make sense to me. It's limited. You can only make whatever you want if that fits within the blocky-3D/8-bit art style and if the game has the EXACT materials and textures you want. Why is such a limited thing popular when you could just draw, or sculpt, or write or actually create something with no limitations?

Guh-Huzzah! Guh-Huzzah! , I think this answers your question.

Well to be honest, if it's not Master Chief, then I dont care who it is. Neither Banjo or Steve really appeal to me that much.

Do you also complain about LEGO? I would argue that its kinda like a virtual version of LEGO, plus you are directly interacting with the world so that makes it better.

The movie based off that game was good though, how come no one ever brings that up when taking about video game movies?

That's the mistake. That's the problem. It shouldn't have become as popular as it is and people need to wake up and realize how bad and limited the game actually is.

Every month, Nintendo releases a list of the 30 best seling Switch games for the month prior. In March, Minecraft placed 4th (3rd, if you remove Fortnite which is free). Switch Minecraft released 2 years ago, and there weren't any sales or anything.

I still don't see any provable argument. You know people don't have to care about your opinions, right? If you don't want Steve in Smash, then you don't want him. It doesn't mean anything as long as you keep using vague and meaningless words like "deserving" and "icon" haphazardly.

I think Banjo-Kazooie is an extremely mediocre run-of-the-mill platforming game with nothing that stands out to me and ugly designs, but you don't see me saying it doesn't deserve a place in Smash.

But man, imagine if Chief actually made it to Smash. It might even be a bigger announcement than Snake and Cloud considering he is literally the mascot of Xbox.

No. I don't, but I don't use it as a creative medium. I buy sets and build them to instruction because I want a model of the thing. If I wanted to make something new entirely from my own imagination than LEGO is the last medium I'd think to use.

Imo Master Chief is the best of both worlds when it comes to Banjo vs Steve. He has popularity, success, influence, moveset potential, really everything a Smash newcomer needs other than being not related with Nintendo at all. He really is a dream pick, for me at least.

As I said, I’m not a fan either, I’d just be curious what the creative team would do with him. But I wouldn’t go as far as to classify a character as more or less deserving. That type of thinking is really subjective and dependent on the group you’re asking. I think a lot of old-school characters, some more obscure than others (shout outs to my robotic friend M-308), from some side-scrolling games are more “deserving” than characters like Banjo....

*watches opened can of worms smash to floor*

....but I can still recognize and respect the fan base. You might not mean to give offense, but I can understand why they take it when you compare their beloved franchise to a fidget spinner. There is nothing wrong with disliking a franchise, I’m not advocating that, but respect the fan base and their hopes.
