Its funny considering when it was indie, it was aimed at adults as well. Only when MS acquired it, it became targeted for kids.A "Kiddie Game"? In Smash?

It's almost the same song and dance with Incineroar. Character gets leaked and people hate said character and try to meme about him. And when the character gets in the game the hate is forgotten almost immediately while people are excited for their interesting moveset instead.

Just sayin some of the more complex redstone circuitry is definitely not made for kids.
Plus, it seems fortnite is taking over as the "kids' game" of the latter end of the 2010s.

I just never got the appeal of Minecraft and thought it would die off in a year or too like every overexposed trend. The fact that it didn't and people are seriously speculating about the inclusion of STEVE in smash frustrates me. It feels like we did something wrong. It's like Cory Baxter is joining the Avengers it just feels wrong.

Pretty much my thoughts. I seriously want Banjo in over Steve, but leaks aren't ever found by us. They're given. Play it patient, y'all. E3 is only two months away.

I'm pretty sure the game's audience has always primarily been kids. The South Park episode about how adults didn't know what Minecraft was and paid a third grader to teach them happened before Microsoft purchased the rights.

Okay, let me put it in more objective terms. Steve in Smash is like putting a Fidget Spinner in Smash. THAT'S why it feels wrong. It feels like we took a trend, extended it WAY past it's allotted lifetime, and now we're honoring it like it's actually amazing.

Steve is a gaming icon. People like the game and series and the character. They want him in Smash because they like him. It's not a "trend". It's a massively influential series.
People don't have to enjoy the game, or like the character. But calling the character being in Smash a mistake? That's just immature. There's a difference between a reasonable point and being entirely unreasonable. I have preferences of who should've gotten in too. Doesn't mean that who got in was remotely a mistake. It just means I have different opinions.

hey man, I dont care if kids like the game, more power to them, I just personaly dont like it but as much as I dont like it, If it even get in smash in one way or another, Ill just have to suck it up and deal with it but doesnt mean Ill be happy about it

That’s the thing about Smash, though, isn’t it? Pretty much any game character can be made to have a place. I’m not a fan, as I said, but I’d be interested in how Sakurai and Co. would create a moveset based on his game. I can say the same about a lot of characters I am not into.

Unlike a fidget spinner, Minecraft has some undeniable lasting legacy under it's belt. We're talking about a worldwide phenomenon, the second best selling game of all time (Though I'd argue it's number one, as they count all versions of Tetris as one game), and is pretty much as recognized as Mario, Sonic, and Pokemon, these days. It's is one of the biggest success stories in gaming, starting as a small indie project to one, of the biggest names in the field. It also helped the let's play genre of YouTube videos grow. And if course, the countless clones, and imitators it spawned,

Looking at it objectively, it's a great avenue for creative architecture and landscaping while also having a pretty decent survival simulator built into it. There's not many games that allow you to manage the creation of an object down to its individual tileset.
Buuuuuuuut I also really don't care about Steve at all, much less seeing him and a Minecraft moveset in Smash or well, any type of combat role at all. Playing as "him" is fun , but nothing he actually does is really interesting to me. Everything he does is a utilitarian extension of his current tools meant for a specific purpose.
And that's not to mention his appearance which would have to either compromise faithfulness to the game, or fluidity within a fighting game.

I don't want to fan the flames, but I do think Papagenos' newest video sums up my thoughts on Banjo versus any other Microsoft rep particularly because developers actually spoke about how they felt about Minecraft, Master Chief, and Cuphead in Smash while Phil Spencer mentioning it gets his post deleted on the spot. It's kind of odd how Banjo just has the least evidence against him right now. And then there's Polar's source as well.
Still possible for Steve. I really wanna know what Vergeben saw when he heard Minecraft content in Smash.
