The Grinch leak was real, actually. The person who uploaded that to their Snapchat were a dimension-traversing, god-like being that crossed into our reality to show us what the Smash Ultimate roster looked like in another, more fortunate realm.

I think Shadow got shafted, personally. With characters like Isaac or Geno they obviously have their fanbases but let's be real, they're irrelavant. Shadow is one of the most popular Sonic characters and was easy echo material. I'm surprised he isn't in.

Just to clarify too, I’m not doubting the interest in Isaac being playable. It’d be cool to use his Earth Psynergy and summons in Smash.

I just don’t understand the belief that he’s this incredibly obvious character choice. It’s the same way as I feel about Geno.

Real talk, I've never understood Sakurai's mentally of limiting the potential cast of future Smash titles solely to what was out at the time he was working on said current Smash game. Never made sense to me.

Because Sakurai has a zero-cut mentality and with that mentality, comes a cast of newcomer characters that HAVE to be popular and relevant right then and there.

The more characters he puts in, the more he's not willing to take out and the more work is carried in-between games, so you have to ask yourself if Sakurai's willing to put in characters that aren't relevant anymore and characters from games he might not have played and thus cares far less about.

I mean this Ganon has a trident, fireballs that turn into bats, can turn into a bat himself, shoot lightning, homing energy balls, etc. I mean I can definitely say he won’t be a Falcon clone.

To be honest, I never understood why Isaac is such a top dog to people.

I like Golden Sun. It’s good. But what made it stand out OVER the many other miscellaneous Nintendo series? We don’t have a character from Nintendo Wars, Custom Robo, or Rhythm Heaven either.

What makes Golden Sun THAT MUCH MORE of a priority?

Personally, I think a big part of it was Isaac not being an assist in Smash 4.

I'll elaborate. I remember back from around 2009-2013-ish, there were a lot more smaller franchise character fanbases. Punch-Out!!, Golden Sun, Sin and Punishment, The Legendary Starfy, Custom Robo, Chibi-Robo...they all had fairly healthy support. This was also when I started to really get into Smash speculation as well (funny enough, with your videos even lol), so lots of good times were had. But when Smash 4 finally got revealed, it was crunch time. I noticed there was a big "now or never" attitude with a lot of these fanbases. Little Mac fans like myself were happy when he got in, of course, but through that time lots of characters from these (like Saki and my boy Starfy) were quickly revealed as Assists, effectively snuffing out their support.

However, since Isaac wasn't shown as one, his fanbase persisted and grew, especially with less perceived "competition" among smaller series. This, of course, led to Isaac not being in the game at all, but then the ballot happened shortly afterwards. Because a lot of the vocal parts of the online speculation base thought an Assist was a death sentence, they didn't get the same vigorous support Isaac did. And the rest is pretty much history.

I firmly believe not being an assist in Smash 4 solidified Isaac's lead in popularity among Nintendo's smaller series, simply because his support base never had a reason to really believe he didn't have a shot. That's just my take on it though. A lot of it is also just organic popularity considering how well-loved Golden Sun is among classic RPG fans.

But the Ganon that's known for trident wielding and magic is far less prominent due to having a gazillion other forms.

Like, Impa's been in a ton of Zelda games, but the ninja that people want appears in 3 games, one of which is a spinoff.

He’s got trident in LttP, Between Worlds, Four Swords, and Oracles. That’s pretty good.

To add to this. I think there's another obvious thing we're forgetting.

If a character's game isn't out yet, there's a chance not even Sakurai and his team know the full extent of that character's techniques. Not that it's an end all be all, but only having a taste of what someone can do, and trying to use every little bit of that isn't the same as getting the full picture and then and making a cohesive movepool from it. Barring clones and semi-clones of course.

I mean, even Falcon is fast and unruly kind of like an F-Zero Machine, right? That'd require an understanding of his games to get that playstyle. Something screenshots and a trailer would be able to perfect.

Even though I would've loved Chorus Kids and Mach Rider, I'm more glad it was fake because I wouldn't have wanted to lose out on an Alola Pokémon. That and a lot of people were being jerks about the whole Grinch Hoax so it probably would've left a bit of a bitter taste in my mouth.

I won’t deny that when you get down to it.

Isaac is just another run of the mill miscellaneous and forgotten Nintendo character but he’s got potential and I have zero qualms on him getting in, I support him to make his fans happy.

He’s got a cool design, the Psynergy concept sounds awesome, and GS’s OST is pretty good so far from what I’ve heard.

I downloaded Golden Sun on the Wii U myself to see what makes him such a big deal when it comes to Smash requests so there’s that.

People understandably complain about FE having more fighters then Kirby, DK, or Metroid but what about freaking Zelda?

In the Melee/Brawl days, it was one of the big 3 top dogs alongside Mario & Pokemon of having 4-5 characters more any series in the roster.

Why does Zelda get stuck with five characters while FE gets seven? It should be the other way around.

I think what he's trying to say is that the problem people would have with Ganon wouldn't be that he would share moves with Dorf/other Zelda characters, but rather that he'd literally be the same character as a character already in the game.

While they don't get as much nowadays, I remember seeing people upset that Doc and ZSS are in the game, despite being the literal same character as Mario and Samus.

Clearly it's Protoman. The code name was supposed to be Break not Brave. Typos can happen. Because Protoman had an alter ego called Break Man. Yep. Totally not making this up.

The Sprout wasn't related to the series at all and the Rathalos Tweet is very questionable(that looked a lot more like a general rpg design, as it's shown in many games as is, including RPG Maker).

We don't know why the AT was cut in Smash 4. So not a lot going for Isaac, actually. Shadow was on a whole nother level. But "Ultimate Lifeform" is meaningless as well. It's called Special in Japan. Some of these are an honest reach.

I honestly never got the insistence that the tweet had to be a reference to Golden Sun. I can definitely understand the connection that was made, but considering that it could've been a reference to other franchises (including Monster Hunter in general as that picture could refer to multiple elements in that series including the Rathalos) pinning it exclusively on one franchise felt like jumping the gun.

That what I said, it was obvious. The topic was about why characters who's games are out are the only ones picked. Outside of old-school characters, but even if they aren't relevant, they obviously have their games out to mess around with and see what they could bring to the table.

Oh I wouldn't have held it against the hoax's characters, mind you. I just would've been a bit miffed in the sense of "oh wow, so all of those people that bullied others, some of the worst parts of the Grinch leak, got rewarded for it." That kinda thing. Not even the majority of them, but like...a vocal subset of them. The ones who made accounts here, showed up, and then disappeared when it was proven to be a hoax.

Well not every other game. Some of the sports games like Strikers and Baseball depict him as middleweight.

But if I had to make a guess as to why Yoshi is heavy in Smash, it probably has to do with the original Smash using his Mario 64 model and he's a pretty big boi there...

Granted, he got lighter each entry except in Ultimate, but there...

Although if you ask me, the "Yoshi guy," it kind of makes sense to me for him to be at least heavier than the Mario Bros., and I never got the reasoning for when that's not the case

On a serious note, I think Brave could be Erdrick or Sora (or Banjo but I doubt it’s him). I’d be fine with whoever though as long as they’re fun to play.
