As someone who wants both Waluigi and Ashley, I will admit I can be hesitant to bring them up. It seems like those who legitimately just want to talk about them being in the game get flack from one side of the fandom. Seems you can't start a conversation about them online without someone coming in and starting a rant about how they don't "deserve" to be in and their fanbases are supposedly the most toxic things in the universe sometimes.

People get to talk about Geno and Banjo being in, why can't we Waluigi and Ashley people have fun dreaming about our characters too?

Yup, still do. I just don't talk about her anymore.
Then go for it, Noi. Seriously, if you are holding yourself back into showing that you still appreciate Ashley just because of other's behavior, then you are letting them get what they wanted from the start.

You see, if things had been different for Ridley's situation, I would have gotten back to work with him the second the E3 event had ended. I had already pretty much stated that I didn't cared about his situation in the game at all, and that it wouldn't stop me from being the fan I have always been. Until I joined the speculation period in 4, I felt I was "supporting him" specifically for Smash, but then BS happened with the 50 Crap Extravaganza video and it was over. I found it pointless to do that. Even if I had a time where I even got to despise Ridley (It was madness), but that deconfirmation wasn't the only reason to cause this, it was other people...until this one friend made me realize that him not being in this game shouldn't affect how I actually felt about him as a character, motivation and inspiration that I have held dearly to my heart for years.

Oh yeah there's a weird amount of hate towards people who like Ashley

Like people calling those who want Ashley pedophiles, or drawing weird fanart of her getting beat up (like explicitly, black eye and busted lip and ****) or straight up killed (which is bad considering she's a child)

It's strange, perhaps it spawns from her being sort of an underdog pick compared to huge fanbases like K.Rool and Ridley's? idk
Smash fans feel threatened by something catering to other people which is why the go ape****, see the people here getting mad that Isabelle got in.

Also I'd love Ashley as a playable character but I'm disgusted as I do indeed know a pedophile who wants Ashley, the sick **** also goes "haha how is a drawing of a naked child pedophilia it's just a drawing"

I was also kinda disappointed by Ashley's deconfirmation, but alas, we can't have all the goodies in the world.

That said, the fanbase's reactions to deconfirmations oftenmost is well regarded as the main representative aspect of what I think is the Smash community's worst qualities.

Things such as deconfirmation harrassment, generalizing accusations towards the supporters (you can guess what in regards to Ashley supporters), and so forth.
Some people like to pour salt in the wound and never let go. Best thing to do is to avoid them really.

And on the other side are those who get hyperantagonistic towards the dev team and so forth... But that's an often discussed topic, and I need not repeat myself too much about that.

Oh yeah, and then there's Bandana Dee.

Oh boy, Bandana Dee...No one seems to be able to agree or even agree to disagree on that one. Which makes me sad, because he's still one of my most wanted.

Steve seems to be unable to not start arguments either.

no its ok you dont understand shes 500- wait why is the fbi here

for real tho not to derail the thread but if you jack off to the body of a naked child, even if it's fictional, then you're a pedophile and need some sort of help

Because Banjo and Geno have seniority. They've been requested since Melee, they're a constant presence. "Oh new Smash game? Banjo and Geno are big requests, maybe this is their time?"

Ashley and Waluigi aren't part of the classic Smash requests, therefor they must be destroyed.

No idea if this qualifies as an unpopular opinion, but after Greninja and Incineroar...

Another Gen 1 Pokemon > Starter Pokemon

Don't get me wrong, I want representation for new gens, but I hate how predictable this is becoming. We get dozens of new Pokemon with each Gen, yet we usually limit ourselves to the starters over the course of speculation and pass up plenty of interesting unorthodox choices because of this pattern that's been set. It's just not as fun and suprising to me as it could be, as we have literally hundreds of options to choose from aside from the "safe" starters. I'm already dreading the inevitable "Gen 8 grass starter for Smash 6!!".

As a Geno supporter that gets attacked whenever I mention the fact I want Geno in on any other site other than this one, I understand deeply what you mean.

Even worse is when I say I want [UNLIKELY CHARACTER] and people go "drop your delusions [UNLIKELY CHARACTER] will never get in get over it stop whining"

It's like, yeah, I know [UNLIKELY CHARACTER] is unlikely, but let me dream lmao. I never said that I predicted them, just that I wanted them. Calm down.

Know you know what It feels like to be a supporter of a very controversial character...

I swear, whenever I bring up Steve, people lose it, and go all "BUT MINECRAFT IS CRINGEY AND HE'S NOT BANJO! THEREFORE, HE DOESN'T DESERVE IT!". Seriously though, it's just so annoying that everyone else can talk about their most wanted character without getting flack, while I can't even mention good ol' Blocky Boi without getting people mocking me for wanting a legitimately justifiable character... (This doesn't happen often on Smashboards, though, you guys are well behaved)

Yeah, I'd say BDee was the character that was robbed the most this game. He's just as popular as Issac and Geno, but I rarely saw him on prediction rosters that used that as the only factor. He wasn't even on the Grinch Leak. Not to mention that stupid "Goomba with a hat".

Yeah I’m kinda on that same boat, obviously I want Cynthia in for more reasons than that but I’m not gonna lie and say that line of thinking doesn’t help contribute...

I fully agree. I'd like a Gen 8 representative, but also something that is representative of the game moreso than the pokemon you'll have for the first 5 minutes of gameplay.

Like, I don't really like Hoopla much, but like Lucario he has some sort of main-character presence in one of the movies. He could work real swell as some sort of weird fighter. Perhaps an ultra beast from Gen 7? Something else alike that? An alolan form?

No hate towards Incineroar tho, he's wonderful and so much fun to play as, but from the principle of it all, I would like some variety up next.

Gen 3 got robbed the most

No fighters no stages and not even a boss in WoL

Curse the Smash development cycle and it screwing over the Gen with the best designed Pokemon (this is NOT up for debate m'kay)

I don't want Ashley but that's not really anything against her or the fandom (keep hoping for her even if i'm not!)

I just think certain others from the franchise would be better.

Y'know what?

I think Ashley's a cool character, Smash or not. And no one's gonna stop me from talkin' about her whenever the Hell I want!

50/50 Cuz you hope its Grass, could just be fire again ;) (I hope for a better Grass guy too.)

Like Starter concepts are really neat sometimes Decuideye :ultgreninja::ultincineroar:

Though we get a guy that was an Ultra beast that maybe wasn't a typical anthropomorphic animal then I'd be on board if the design is tight.
