I did the 3L and 3F/MFE combo Spring 09

3L was really easy though, I took it cause everyone seemed to say it was a joke compared to MLC. It's interesting how a lower percentage of people pass each year for MFE are they trying to do this on purpose?

That's what I meant when I called them *******s--it sure seems that way. And this test was a bear, too.

I did 11? practice tests and all the sample problems. I don't know how we were supposed to prepare for this.

That's about it. And (obviously) I hit up any contacts I may have.

I've settled on a list of 60 companies. Some people on AO say you should be contacting hundreds of companies, but I have trouble wrapping my head around that.

Jeez, I'm not looking forward to joining the job hunt. All I see are people having trouble in both my possible fields, actuarial science and software development. I plan to start seriously looking at the start of the new year because I'll be fleeing the country for December. Should give me time to either study for an exam/read some programming books/whatever.

Career tips: You actuary guys should apply to my company. There'll be a AAA opening in about 6 weeks...

Because I'll be gone.
Scratch this I have inside info from the home office that they've been looking to decrease head count in the department all along and I was one of the obvious choices with the failures. The typical policy had been you just become a non-exam taking actuarial statistical analyst. So...most likely no openings.

Also anyone going to this? http://jobfairalumni.eventbrite.com/
Travelers, Farmers, and Liberty Mutual should be there.

I'm just gonna try to hand out my resume to any insurance companies or anyone looking for programmers.

Well, there is an opening at your office in Chicago. Not sure what that means if they're trying to cut back on staff.

Unfortunately, they want someone with 2 years. And 2 exams? I see that kind of mismatch all the time. Who has 2 years of experience and 2 exams?

Speaking of Liberty Mutual, they rejected me a week after getting my resume without even wanting to talk to me. That was in September, and they're still accepting applications. That annoys me. And this is after getting all the way to a home office interview in the spring. Maybe I was so bad they blacklisted me.

Huh, maybe my source was just trying to make me feel better. Or it could be to replace the guy that quit in October and they just want to get rid of the dead weight types like me.

I'm not too far off I got 2 years of experience and 3 exams since most people tend to still count 3L and 3F/MFE as one.

I'm going.
I ended up not going. Day 1 coincided with my grandmother's birthday. And day 2 I woke up super late because the 14 hour drive from UIUC to NJ took its toll on me (9 pm -1pm because we stopped at rutgers to drop people off and meet up with friends) :'(
