Never take an upper level exam, kids. It's the devil.

It's basically just all memorization. It really isn't very hard at all, individual topics are definitely on an easier level than say 4/C. But you have to memorize like 2 textbooks worth of **** most of which will never be tested or will net you .5 to 1.5 points at best. If there was one thing I wish someone had made sure to impress upon me before I took my first upper level exam it's just how much more memorizing is needed. Last Spring when I took 5 I realized how much more studying was needed far too late to have made a difference. More memorization than I've ever had to do in my academic or professional career.

You know what, Henrik? That sounds like it really sucks. Nice to know I have something to look forward to. Actually, I think they have it easier on the life side.

I'll pop by around 6 tonight. Fine by me if you want to start earlier to prepare yourselves. Where do we do this?

Wow weren't we number 1 last year? Well, there's one job opening that might be available soon. I've been really sucking it up lately. 5 again on 4/C. ****ing actuarial science.

The administrator is once again a different person, but he/she will most likely be aware of the past events.

"One of the offenders called out to the victim and pointed a handgun at the victim's face while making unintelligible remarks. "

That cracks me up.

You should go back to the rules I remember from when I was young. All stages are legal and on random, and you get to ban one for the set. Items on.

Oh, and you should talk to BunBun about scheduling. You want to make sure you don't bump into anything.

Career tips: You actuary guys should apply to my company. There'll be a AAA opening in about 6 weeks...

Because I'll be gone.

Do you guys do anything special for your resumes? Cover letters? Do you use any books or resources for tips and such? Get it reviewed by anyone?

Thank you letters after interviews? What are people asking nowadays? The usual behavioral crap or have you seen some curveballs out there?

Man, it's been so long since I've done any of this crap.

Uh oh, what happened?

I learned everything I know from the Careers room at actuarialoutpost. I also posted my resume anonymously and got some tips.

I get tons of behavioral questions.

You know, this new smilie reminds me of me. :glare:

I might have heard of companies doing that, but I can't quite remember. Still, you should double-check whether 3 fails get you kicked out of the program or the company altogether.

From what they say on AO it doesn't seem like actuaries care too much about cover letters. But HR probably does.

Matt, no word yet this season? I managed to get to a second phone screen with Humana; still waiting on that. Nothing else so far. That puts my per-application hit rate at about 6% so far. This could take a while.

That's what I thought as well, and I was pretty sure the policy said you could get back on the program if you showed you could start passing exams again, but apparently I missed some meeting where the chief actuary said they were going with a 3 strikes you're out completely thing, although they said I can transfer out of the actuarial department and look within the company.

I think I'm gonna have some trouble coming up with excuses for this to other companies, and with the job market full of candidates this may be it for me as an actuary.

It'll help if you pass more exams during your unemployment, but first you have to decide whether you even want to continue with this career and have to pass more exams while working full-time. If you do, then the repeated failures on 4/C are bad but not necessarily a dealbreaker. After all, you were able to pass 3L and 3F in a double sitting while working. And having experience gives you a leg up over most of us.

You could probably get an underwriting gig without too much trouble. That's not such a bad job.

You guys are not being supportive enough, Henrik, you'll be fine.

Go eat a mcrib and find your center and then take the actuary scene by storm.

Quite honestly, I'm not sure I want to be an actuary. Half of me wants to stick it out and not give up, half of me wants to go back to programming. Unfortunately, I only got a minor in Computer Science, so I might be limited in the latter direction.

Also yes, Mcribs. Need Mcribs. I thought they were coming Nov 2? That's what the McD's Twitter said. I'm going today hoping Christmas came early this year.

Yeah but they usually suck. Most of them are google maps with random people putting up markers that that may or may not be real and are also usually rarely updated at least for the McDonald's around me.
