$5 dollar entry fee. I look forward to showing my skill in smash 95% and care about money 5%, but I wouldn't want to have a smaller pot. I barely care about the money and highly doubt I'd place high enough to get any but seeing a larger pot gives more motivation to train and play more imo.

@Woz: very happy you put up a poll for a biweekly discussion :)

I dont care about the pot, even if i won or not... 5 dollar entry fee might kill some people from even entering the tourney. So then the pot starts shrinking anyway. It is best to just reduce the pot. Such a large percent of us dont see it to the pot anyway. So why would anyone want to add a fee to get in?

Despite typically winning $$$, I voted for 40% pot since I don't want to have to pay more when OOS people like Wes and PC show up and kill my chances to get top 3.

Having 40% from the pot only affects 1st place and less so 2nd. 3rd is roughly the same amount either way (which is entrance fee back give or take a few dollars). $5 house has 1st winning a good amount more, 2nd a little bit more, 3rd about the same, and everyone else out an additional $5 ontop of the entrance fees.

Inui, your vote may have been in the right place but your heart wasn't lol. That's cool though whatever. COME ON PEOPLE VOTE FOR THE 40%

Edit: Alright, I'm reloading the page and every few minutes it is going up for the 5 dollar fee. Somehow I think EGGM is right lol. there has to be someone doing this account thing cause it is unlikely that people would be voting that quickly.

Re-edit: LOL literally its almost every other reload it goes up by one.

Unless there really is that many people that are quite sure they would be getting 1st or 2nd, I don't see how there'd be that much of a demand for the $5 house fee. :dizzy:

Probably should've just asked people to post with their input instead of a poll imo.

I voted 40% of the pot.

If it costs $5 at the door, it makes it almost impossible for some people to enter a tournament. Between gas, food, and now a door fee, it becomes too much for at least me to pay (I don't know about anyone else) However, if the fee cuts into the amount of participants in the tournament, then the pot will be decreased anyway.

And not to be greedy, but the odds of me seeing any of that pot is somewhere along the same lines as getting struck by lightning and winning the lottery. And not to take anything away from the people who have the skill to win that pot. I feel that having such abilities should get you something (namely, a decent pot at a biweekly), but I would just hate to drive down to participate in tourneys (and friendlies) and not have enough money to eat, or even play in the tournaments I drove down for.

ok lets look at the numbers

average turnout for 1v1 and 2v2 lets say is 20 ppl and 20 teams ( a small number but just an example)

5 bucks each person would be

- $100 1v1.....$200 2v2 ---------THIS DOES NOT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT PPL PLAYING IN BOTH...for ex if everyone from singles play in doubles then the total would bbl $100 only.

Lets say 40 ppl come and everyone plays in the same tournament it would just be $200 even

40% of the pot would be ( with $10 entry for 1v1 and $10 for 2v2)

- $80 1v1....$80 2v2 = $160

that is the breakdown of what your looking at. I am a little tired so the numbers may be wrong.

There are people voting on the poll that probably aren't going to show up to the biweekly. XD

I made the poll results public so that you see who voted for what. I did that mainly to help sort out who is actually coming to make their vote count and who is simply voting for the hell of it. Please don't pester the people on that list because of their votes, or I will ban you for a week.

That's right. I went there.

Your numbers are a little wrong, by the way. In your second equation, you jacked up the price for 1v1's: The entry fee for singles is only $5.

Don't think of it as 40 people coming. That gives you an uneven bracket. Instead, the numbers you need to look at are 8, 16, 32, or 64. In our case, it's 32 is ideal.

If 32 people come who paid for singles, that's $160. With a door fee, $160 would be the same amount that's been raised. For 40% of the pot, it is $64. However, the reason I personally want the door fee is because we take half that money, which is $80, and give that to Marcel's mother. The other half helps pay for the food that we've generously bought for you guys when we start having BBQ's. In fact, we might charge you some money for food if we do a 40% pot to help cover the costs, while it might be free with the $5 fee. This is something I need to discuss with my second in commands.

This is with 30 for 1v1 and 15 teams, and a split of 60/30/10. For the $5 house numbers, use the numbers not in parentheses for the 1st event entered, and use the numbers in parentheses for the 2nd one entered.

Personally, I'd like to be able to opt in for food rather than it already being added into the entry fees, as I always bring a box of cereal with me to things in case I need something to munch on at some point anyway.

Well, since I didn't get to eat the last two biweeklies(JFox is terrible at giving directions and LK can have onion rings for lunch at 11 and 5 chicken nuggets 12 hours later for dinner and not be hungry WTF?) I definitely wouldn't mind the food.

But if we're doing unranked anything, there shouldn't be a door fee as that is going to scare away half the people who don't want to come to tournaments because they don't think they have a chance of winning.

I didn't say I was against there being food, just that I don't like the idea of paying for food I probably won't be eating, hence what I meant by opting in for the food by being separate from the entry fee.

Yeah, I'd like to change to 40% pot too. Honestly, i dont give a **** about the choice either way but 40% pot wins my mindset ratio 55 to 45 now. Point is, I just wanna smash! lol!

I voted for 40%, because the last time i went to this bi-weekly back in februrary, I came with NO cash, cause i was broke, and i still am broke, so if they were to charge a 5 dollars entrence fee, I couldnt even attend...i just wanna go for the friendlies and experience to get better, i hope a 5 dollar fee is not charged.

How the hell can this many votes even be on the poll? It's being rigged/effed with.

I don't understand why people would want 5$ house fee. If 30 people attend, that's 150 dollars to who?

Where as 30% of that in a pot could be used for El's mom, maybe a 2$ dollar house fee for food?

Best of both worlds!!

Seeing as how alot of elite players said 5 dollar door fee I think that must mean it's a **** good idea.

But the eilte players are the ones winning money. People of my level who come, enter 5$ for teams, 5$ for singles, and 5 for house? That's not cool v_v

5$ house fees are fine for tourns, but this bi-weekly is more about getting the community together, and playing smash. The tournaments are side thingies. If it wasn't this way, then the smash tourns would cost more to enter.

If they want a 5$ house fee, then why not make it 10$ entry instead, and cut 40%? It'll wind up to be the same money spent. Except now, the money for the new kids, or kids who are not in the top 3 in the state, won't be spent on something they don't think will help them.

A 2 dollar house fee for food would be awesome.

But, take for instance:

Me- Hey Jason, you won low tier? Awesome, how much did you win?
M2K- I don't know.. don't really care.
Third party person, whose name escapes me- He doesn't play for cash, he just plays for fun.

Odds are he'll win anyway, so if he doesn't care, then take it from him. Getting an extra 10$ is a pain in the *** to me at all, and I'm sure some agree, if not most.

So I strike my vote of 40%, and replace it on secret option 3.

30% from pot to EL's mother, and 2$ house fee for delicious BBQ awesomeness.

yah but Mew2King said $5 dollar door fee and Mew2King got ***** on Mute City using Fox vs Inui's Sheik. So obviously Inui's Sheik goes even with M2K's Fox and since Inui sucks that means M2K sucks and that the $5 door fee is a bad idea. It was obvious that M2K was playing technically very well in that match and not messing anything up at all.

I lol'd.

Not so much at the statement, but at the flaming that's sure to follow.

Edit: I also forgot that some people are coming from 50-100 miles away! That's more cost to them as well... Just saying.

Yes, I did beat his Fox in tourny on a ******** stage when he was playing not at his best. >_>; But it doesn't matter since he won the set anyways.

If there's a $5 house fee, I'm not coming without a total guarantee of winning my cash back. I have too many other expenses to go broke from Smash and the increased entry fees would make me mad lol.

RaptorHawk, I have to play your Pikachu next time it looks mad hawt.
Sure thing......dunno when I'll be able to make another bi-weekly though.

If there is an unranked tourny then since I'm unranked...... I can play.

As for the poll....I originally chose 40%. But after reading that $5 could mean free food then Im more tempted to go with that since that $5 would be spent on food anyways and I'd save gas/time as well.

Yeah, it's true. XD

Anyways...

I am no longer in agreement with Marcel and Steve about the unranked tournament. I find Eggm's logic far more convincing.
