TRISTATE'S GOING TO GENESIS THREAD

Hi Everyone.

I made this thread to try and get some information on

a.) Who is going to Genesis
b.) How they are getting there
c.) Where they are staying

I figure we can all keep each other informed on good hotel deals, good airfare deals and possibly get a list of players for a Tristate crew.

I know it is called the Tristate Genesis Thread, but I would welcome any information from other area in Atlantic North. We obviously aren't going to go to Maine for a Plane, but I would expect some MD/VA guys and some Connecticut guys could find some of this information helpful.

*Please do not turn this thread into a discussion about the smashbus.

Information

Right now the cheapest roundtrip flights to SFO from Philly I have found are around $400. I saw some to San Jose (1 hour away from SFO and 1.5 from the tournament) for around $300. I estimate that $600 should be about enough for everything. $400 for flight $75 for tourny costs and $125 for housing and food.

Hotels should be reasonable if we put a bunch of people in each room.

2/4/09 - Southwest fare - From Philly to SFO and returning from SFO to Philly - $391.00

400 is way too ew.

Anyone wanna ROAD TRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIP?
In the several days it would take to road trip I would make more money working then the difference in costs. But a road trip would be kind of fun with the right people. Coming back would suck though.

You should totally go. I hear your Brawl commentary is pretty awesome.

Both of these are important aspects.

CoT will decide if I'm going. If I win, I'll probably go.

Me and Scar should road trip together! :D!

Awesome. And this time, if I get him to miss his route like before, it should do more than just have him yell at me with his face puffy and red. Fun fun.

Let's do it.

Come on people post! Where are the New York heads?

I think we should try and get at least our flights booked around Spring to save money. I am waiting on the Genesis update for housing information. They said they have a pretty big update coming soon. I like the idea of getting a few hotel rooms for all the Tristate heads.

I am also toying with the idea of renting a car for the weekend for Scar, myself, and Mogwai to drive so we can make food runs and not be confined by whomever is driving us around.

He better be. I am almost certain he plans to.

Edit: I assume New York and a lot of NJ will be leaving from JFK. Let me know if that is going to change.

I think the Tunes + M2K are closer to Philly.

We will try and get a hotel within a reasonable distance from the venue if we can't find housing. I am waiting for the genesis update cause I am hoping they might have some housing info.

I dunno about NY, but Newark is def closer to me and easier to get to. Me and Reno have talked about going to this a little after the thread was made and plan on going. We'll talk things out soon, I think DJ and Alu were also interested but I'll let them speak for themselves

Most definitely going to this. It's not even a "maybe" I'm going to this. Shakugan said it...hotel if no housing. This trip shouldn't be too bad, heck, I think I spent more on Otakon, xD. I'll probably try to find a flight from Newark airport. It's the closest airport to me. HBK, Tec, you two going via that way?

PS- For those that don't want to fly

To get to Cali by car....would be like 5 days. Which, in essence is 5 days you could be training in Smash. So you're looking at, in essence like a 2 week trip. Even if you had My friend driving...I think it'd still take 5 days, xD. And trust me, he ***** the speed limit...it's a habit for him. You're looking at a ton of money in gas, 'cuz it's going back up, and it's more expensive in other areas than it is around PA/NJ.

Also, if you plan on taking a Van...well that's more Gas money unless you have a gas efficient van. A bus would just be a bad idea...how many people do you know with a CDL license? 'cuz I can guarantee you that between renting the bus out itself and paying the driver, etc. you might wind up getting ***** for fees. True, it'd be fun, and if you managed to get one of those SUPER nice buses, you could accommodate. I've seen some that have like car charger ports, etc. Then you could like play smash, watch movies, etc.

You could find someone with an RV...that could work...but get ***** on gas. My ex-boss had an RV and it cost 500 to fill that muva trucker up. Sure...split it up between like 10 people...it's not too bad...but get like 10 miles to the gallon....yeah.....you're looking to spend MUCH more than you wanted.

I'm not saying don't do it, but I had already considered these options. Flying is probably the easiest option. You'd be surprised at how quickly you can save up the $ for this trip. I plan on trying to make a week out of it, because I'm probably going to be tired as all heck with Jet Lag and what not. Sure...it won't be as bad as when I went to Tokyo, but I don't want to take a risk. At the very least, I need to get there 2 days before the tournament. When I get there...I won't be affected, but I'll be knocked out the next day. (Happened there and back.)

Try to do what Pakman did, look for the cheapest air fare for the trip. Then look for housing/hotels. Get some people to share a room with if you need to get a hotel, and you'll end up doing alright for yourself.

This is just my insight on taking the trip. I did rather well for myself going to Tokyo only preparing for it for like 3 months. (E.G.- Saving, deal hunting, budgeting) Take it for what you want, but just remember to look for the best option for yourself.

Pakman- I found **** deals on my trip, so I'll keep an eye out for good ones. (I spent less than 1k in air fair, after taxes, in my round trip to Tokyo. 14 effing hours there, and 12.5 back)

a.) BlackWaltzX [maybe]
b.) I'm looking for airplane tickets from Newark Airport to SFO
c.) Hotel if he can't find housing elsewhere

A round trip from a Wens to a Monday would be around $419 or something, not counting a hotel charge or rental car fee. Bringing maybe an extra $100 or so for entry fee for Genesis itself. Though BlackWaltz isn't sure if he will be attending or not. He will post here himself when he is sure about it. But if he will go, I hope that there will be housing available. :\

Right now, I'm the one planning this out for him. Gah!

Not sure if I am going. Also, I didn't make her or ask her to look it up, I only showed interest in the bus thing.
Either way, it's kind of.. costly for a videogame. :3

Not sure yet, xDxD

Well, that's why I said I wanted to make a week out of it. Enjoy Cali AND enjoy the tournament. Who says you can't sight see a little? I mean....there's no rule of thumb that says you can't enjoy other things than a Smash tournament. Besides...I'm sure some people aren't going to play Brawl on the Brawl tournament day. If they're not on their way back home...they'll probably be aiming to do something else.

Personally speaking, not everyone is able to take a week off from whatever. I know this is in July but I wouldn't be able to take off from work for a week just so I can travel to a tourny LOL. PS; doubt I'm going to this but it looks fun XD

Flight there = to costly for a single tourney.
Drive there = hella fun, but a week long is hard to get the free time.
Hang around in cali = Great, -great- experience. However, still kinda.. Difficult.

I guess I can understand the week thing. I usually just let my boss know ahead of time, and remind him, and remind him. So when the time comes...he can't say anything. (and he doesn't). Employers tend to like this kind of thing. Even the Jerk wad employers don't mind giving the time off if they're informed of it well in advance. Also, if it's not during the busy season. July being right before at my previous job, so he'd not care. I have a bit of diplomacy that I've learned from older people. Still in all, yes, you're right, it's hard.

Southwest Airline's Website said:
You may now purchase Southwest Airlines travel through June 26, 2009. On January 29, we will open our schedule for sale through August 14, 2009.
Pricing for flights from Southwest is going up this week. I think we need to start taking a look. We are going to need pricing for each airport.

Other things:

Should we leave Thursday night?

Um, just making a suggestion, you should probably leave midday thursday. I'm not sure how used to flight everyone is, but Jetlag may come into play. There's gonna be a day of friendlies, which I'm sure everyone is going to need for warming up and getting a good feel for the competition. I would suggest midday because it gives people time to rest after a long flight. Leaving Thursday night might be alright if you plan on sleeping half of friday away. (nothing wrong with that, mind you.) Just a suggestion, ^_^.

Edit: I'm sorry...I'm just a real over planner for trips like this, I don't know why.
