So far...it seems like it's definitely less expensive (by plane) to go Wed. as opposed Thursday. My suggestion is to try Wed. Night, so it's pretty much like having Thursday - Monday for schedules. Also....ABE airport sucks for pricing. Don't try it. (Screw you Allentown, xD. It's closer than Newark...just more expensive)

getting from san jose to the venue involves multiple transfers, both buses and trains

obv if you can save hundreds of dollars, it would likely be worth it, but just something to know

Yeah. That is what I am thinking. Although, I am still debating on renting a car. Maybe I will rent like a minivan or something so I can take a bunch of people from the airport to somewhere closer to the hotel/venue.

I know nothing about the cost of renting a car, but comparing it to the cost of 6 or 7 people taking trains and buses and stuff, and the freedom to drive around Cali as we please might be worth it.

Edit: Gross. Minivans are like 3X as much as economy cars. We could get two cars for cheaper than the minivan.

UPDATE: I did some looking for JMAN. Flights from JFK and LGA to SFO are $417 on Hotwire. However, from NYC to San Jose its $377. It would actually be cheaper for the NYC guys to take a trip to Philly and leave from there according to the numbers I am finding.

Feel free to do you own search. I have really only checked hotwire and southwest.

On a scale from 1 to awesome. McFox's Browser is asstastic.

So I've been doin some research on tix to get to Genesis, and I'm pretty much sold on this one. Hotwire.com put in date: July 9, July philly to SFO- it will suggest that you change your airport to SJC for $259. Once you click on there, it SHOULD say "good news, we found cheaper tickets for $227! $227 to fly across the country!

The drawbacks

-The airline is 1 hour 15 mins from the venue, and the nearest train is 20-30 mins away. :( I'm sure taxi's are an option, not sure about buses.

- Renting a car is not an option! "All drivers must be 25 years of age or older on the pick-up date and provide a credit card for deposit."

-The plane leaves at 5:50 AM thursday (July 9) morning! (if there aren't any delays, you arrive in at San Jose airport at 11am) That means you'll be there a day before the tourney even starts. The plane ride back is 9 hours, and leaves 11:40 monday (July 13) morning and arrives in philly at 11:40 pm.

This is by far the cheapest plane ride, so if you wanna save money your gonna need to sacrifice a bit. Me personally, I don't care about the time stuff. All I am concerned with is how to get to philly airport, how to get to the venue from san jose airport, and what to do with myself all day thursday. (If we can rent a hotel we could hang out in the room and play smash thursday in prep for the tourney.)

Let me know what you guys think. I think if we put the effort to plan this right, the positives (saving almost $200 on plane tix) easily outweighs the drawbacks.

Ok well I can get jfox and 3 others to the airport in Philly. I am also down for doing this 227 is an AWESOME price. Alsoooooooooo I think that if enough people go on this same flight the 8 hours will be tolerable also its 5.5 to 6 on any other flight so its not that bad honestly. I was also thinking if we can't rent a car we can get a big taxi like a mini van one and split the taxi cost 6 ways or something. Also it'd be pretty cool if some one who lives near the airport were going to can let us play smash there all day. :) either way I think i'm going to book this tomorrow for sure so who else is interested?

i still have to work out my kinks with personal traveling .. so yea i'll see but this sounds amazing anyway lol

booking flights for pokemanz is better for me ... LOL ... i win pretty consistantly there lol

u guys better go....here is an idea start holding tournies and take a percentage out of the pot and by may or june u should have enough for at least one or 2 people to go to genesis..or something like that

If we did that m2k/jman would start hyperventilating. Although I think it would be nice. I also think it should be exclusively for the TO's in our area like alukard since hes doing the most for our community atm by hosting.

Well, my ideal plans would be this: travel with NYC and PA thursday morning on the same flight to san jose. Then (<--i think i got this one scar) we rent two cars and split the cost and drive into san francisco, which is only about 40 mins from the airport, do some sight seeing and trolley riding. We could even visit the cali beaches cuz we'll be real close. That night we drive another 40 mins or so to a hotel near the venue and start playin smash.

Yeah the only issue is that someone might need to be 25 to rent cars.

I was talking to JFox about this. If we can't get a ride from the locals, the difference in plane price would make it a MUCH better deal to just grab a taxi from San Jose Airport to the closest BART station and just take public trans around.

I'd like to get a car, myself scar and mogwai would all drive the miniboss mobile. However, none of us are 25 :-/

Pakman, although the hotwire website said you have to be 25, there may be certain places that rent out cars to 21 year olds, its prob more expensive though. The thing is, you would need to take a taxi to the car rental place regardless, so I think theres no getting around the taxi thing. Unless we manage to find a bus that picks up from the airport, which really is a possibility considering how major that stop would be. I refuse to believe that some kinda of public trans isn't available at such a major location.

Worst comes to worst, we split a taxi to the BART train. Not that big a deal really. I'm gonna look into the renting a car option wednesday and ill update u guys
