Triggers getting stuck

Recently, my R trigger has been getting slow at getting back into its neutral position, aka it slowly slides back. At times, I end up lightshielding after l-cancels or wavedashes, despite letting go fast enough.

How would one go about fixing this? I've already tried cleaning the trigger compartment with water.

Might have to get a new controller. It might be the spring underneath that's causing the issue, and not a dirty slot. I think there's a spring underneath, anyway <.<;;

Yes, there is a spring, but I think maybe some models have a different mechanism for resetting the trigger. Idk.

And you should get a new controller, if the old one's messed up. Nothing lasts forever, you know D:

it could just be that the slot is clogged with dirt and slime from built up sweat from dirty hands playing.

trying opening it up if you can and cleaning it that way

Open up your controller and clean it out, than stretch the spring a little bit, it should be good as new.

I clean the insides of the controller on a weekly basis, but I never thought of stretching the spring. Will give it a shot.

playasia.com sells white controllers for cheap and new. Else, open it up and switch the spring with a fresher spring from a crappy controller.

Just open up the controller with a jeweler's screwdriver or a triwing if you can get it and clean off the spring and the slot with alcohol and a cotton swab. There you go, good as new.

Just tried switching the insides of the controller while keeping the shell and buttons, and strangely enough, the trigger now works as it's supposed to... Makes no sense to me at all.

In my experience, it has been very rare that the spring is what causes the trigger to not slide back quickly or all the way. It's usually the trigger slide on the controller board. The plastic tends to get rough with a lot of use and starts to create more friction between the components, causing it to take longer to slide up and down, and sometimes even snag. Dirt can also accumulate in the slide and cause this.

I clean out the controller first, including wiping the inside of the slide. If that doesn't work, I just put a little bit of Rubik's Cube Lube into the trigger slide and it always fixes it.

*Warning: I use this lubricant because it does not cause damage to plastic components. Don't just use any old lubricant and hope that it works, as you will likely just ruin your board.*

What's your solve time Mr. Pro Cuber and where do you get this lubricant? I just used bulb grease lubricant from Autozone, since it does not interfere with conductivity

This happens to me frequently, mostly due to my small modification (took a spring out of the left trigger, put both in the right, I only use right). What happens to me is I always light shield, which is useful because I now have a light shield button, but sucks because I can't LRAStart.

I have no interest in solving Rubik's Cubes. The cube lube is courtesy of a friend.

I went and cleaned the slide with water and then dried it, similar to what cactuar suggested. It worked flawlessly after that. I also did the same with another controller that has a slow control stick, and the result was astounding.

TY cactuar :)

a lot of times its actually the plastic outside part of the trigger getting stuck on the back of the controller shell

if you grind away a little plastic on the back part of the shell it helps a lot, too

The cause of this is usually people pushing the trigger in at an odd angle over a long period of time, causing the plastic to get rough and increase the friction. A very fine sandpaper works as well, just to smooth it down.

Sorry to say, but this is considered a controller mod, and any controller mods, except cosmetic mods as they are encouraged, are banned from tournies.

This is due to your "light shield" button.

oh noes its cactuar, he 4-stocked me :(

Cleaning isnt the issue.

The light shield button is the same issue as removing the springs from the triggers causing the buttons to be digital so you can instantly bring up the shield, tech, wavedash, etc.

not being able to lightshield is at least as big of a handicap as "powershielding easily" is an advantage

idk cactus i always thought it was because there's just too much plastic on the newer controllers, it always happens to me the newer they are but tends to go away once they get more broken in

i don't even use L, lol

dunn ban meeeeeeeeeee

I'd fix it if I could find a tri-ring
and it's being a serious hindrance now because it starts lightshielding whenever the hell it wants so every so often I need to shake my controller violently

@joeplicate: Like I said, it usually happens to people who push the trigger in at an angle for whatever reason. Depending on how hard you are doing that, it can definitely smooth out the plastic or wear away at it enough to make it slide easier despite the trigger rubbing against the plastic. Different people's playing habits affect controllers in completely different ways.
