I defended giving Mario to Illumination from day 1 but I have, uh, mixed feelings about giving Zelda to them at best.

I guess if they went with Toon Link it'd work, but given how BotW is the current hotness it'd probably be better to give it to an anime studio.

I (sadly) haven't seen the movie yet but does someone has to be mean or overshadow the protagonist to be a girlboss?

Girlboss doesn't have a meaning anymore, it's just provoctative.

Just got back. I really enjoyed it. Better than the first Sonic movie, as good as the second.

Given I've now seen the film. Here's my headcanon until otherwise

Since Peach isn't an unusually large toad or as one of those fanarts depicts https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/06f0781b-88c2-4354-8ced-9069c2d86edd. I'm gonna go on the record to saying the Mushroom Kingdom and its neighboring kingdoms are its own planet that somehow has a magical way to each other through warp pipes.

Which I think makes sense since Peach was surprised to see another human and only way for Rosalina to work if they ever use her is by having the same backstory as in the games where she meets Luma when he crashed only it was on earth.

Only way I could see Daisy working is that like Peach, she too wandered into a warp pipe as an infant only its inhabitants raised her in secret.

There's so much of the Mario lore. They need to take advantage of it.

Having Bowser eventually being more like his recent appearances, not as evil, occasional ally to Mario and such. Use more villains, love to see them take cues from the Mario & Luigi games such as Cackletta and Fawful. If they keep using Bowser then it's just gonna get stale, games aren't like how movies are. Though I could still buy Bowser being the main villain again for the sequel and even third but after that they would need to change it up a bit.

I'm also really glad they didn't overdid it with the "girlboss" trope regarding Peach still managing to give Mario his moments of shine not turning him into the butt of the joke while turning Peach into their 'local Captain Marvel'.

Insider information says that's exactly what Illumination was doing before Nintendo put its foot down.

All things considered, they did a fine balance of that trope.

Since she's surprised of seeing Mario who is a human and uses the term, I would say so.

But at the time maybe that's what the Toads think she is, I have a theory long ago Toads probably used to travel to other planets (My headcanon since Rosalina's backstory but on earth is the only way I could see her working) which explains the warp pipe Mario and Luigi encounters but since stopped having interacted with humans in the past perhaps leading to certain legends and myths on earth (Perhaps leprechauns, dwarves and such?)

Since Bros 2, she has done nothing in the main series except get kidnapped and use the same "MARIOOOOOOO" voice clip from like 2007.

Just give her the same backstory as in the Galaxy games only she's from Earth rather than the Mushroom Kingdom, said Luma crashed on Earth where he met her.

Until proven otherwise, I'm gonna assume the Mushroom Kingdom and other neighboring kingdoms is on another planet rather then dimension.
