Question for y'all: Do you consider the Super Mario Maker games or Super Mario Run to be mainline 2D Mario platformers?

I personally don't.

I’m surprised to see a solo Wonder direct. I wonder if they are putting this out now because of a demo at PAX, or are they doing this now because of something else?

We keep hearing reports that the last direct’s lineup is basically it for switch. So could we get a switch 2 reveal in September instead? Would be something that requires more focus then their biggest game this year.

We aren't seeing the Switch 2 until first quarter 2024, I guarantee it.

The September direct will have the reveal of at least one more decently sized game (please be Donkey Kong) slated for early-mid 2024, before we move into the pre-release cycle for the next console. Basically the Switch's swan song, as it were.

Given GameMills is doing a DreamWorks kart racing game, do y'all think DreamWorks will eventually get its own platform fighter as had Nick and Warner Bros.? Obviously developed by GameMills as well.

DreamWorks has plenty of IPs under their name that would make a fine roster. Shrek, Madagascar, How to Train Your Dragon, Kung Fu Panda, etc.

They announce Smash Ultimate 2 tomorrow. Your reaction?
I’d be gamer depressed cause
1. 2 Smash games in a single generation on the same console
2. No new Nintendo console around to have a new Smash game
3. still no Kid Icarus Uprising port/remake/sequel had in my life
I'd be kinda hyped but I would also be burnt out of it all. I can live without an Smash sequel for a good while.
plus Smash Ultimate is still very well alive, with a variety of characters randomly being realized to be good in the public eye of the foolish competitive community…also more Steve

Plot twist: "Ultimate 2" is just a huge expansion for Ultimate 1 where they add new stages, revamp base game and DLC character movesets, and add new characters, pokeball pokemon, and assist trophies, just without making a new game and without people being required to pay for a whole new game.

I'm going to give Mario Run a hard "yes". Nintendo considers it mainline, it features platforming, and it has Mario - it counts in my book. The Mario Makers are half-mainline in my opinion - the actual "maker" part, no, but the pre-packaged levels that make a story mode - sure why not.

This also makes Mario Maker 3DS it's own, mainline, game - up to you if that's treason or not.

Whole cast moveset revamps straight up makes it a whole new game on it's own, that's a lot of labor for 80+ characters.

Sakurai needs to take a long vacation, also the workload of the next Smash needs to make SSBU's look like Smash 64's.

For a while we've known that Super Mario Bros. Wonder will have in-game purchases.

Please let it be like NSMBU's DLC (New Super Luigi U) and not like NSMB2's DLC (Coin Rush levels)

Smash Ultimate DX will be just the same game after it's final update, but all the Scrimbloes are cut to be more like PxZ. :4pacman:
(Yes, i label Steve as a Scrimblo. So Smash is now fully fixed and everyhting will be perfect)

HYPE!!!!
Rumors has it that The Marvels is only an Hour 30-45 long.
Surprised given that nowadays there is this need to make blockbusters into these over 2 hour+ epics when 2 hours is just enough for any movie.

I don't see any reason to overhaul the core gameplay. If anything, the only DLC I'd welcome for Ultimate are just some more new characters and stages, maybe a few items as well.

That, and also some gamemodes like Boss Rush and Smash Run as well. Those two modes are sorely missing from Ultimate.

Maybe but I don’t know. Normally I’d say sure, but the rumors back up no big games after what we’ve announced.

Also it’s pretty interesting we had the rumors that the switch 2 was going to be announced at PAX.

Which we now have a presentation for the big game of the year before pax, and pax would take Place before a September direct.

Combining all that together, it really makes me think that perhaps Nintendo has a different approach for this. I think the Peach game will be the early 2024 title, so I’d be surprised if we got another but it’s also not impossible.

Either way the current release schedule feels odd.

It’s entirely possible that Peach’s game is the last major release for the switch. But I feel like we’re in for one last surprise.

I mean it is 7 years old, consoles don't last that without getting phased out for newer stuff.
I spent so much of that time obsessing over smash that it feels like i only got to experience what the switch has to offer after the fact.
