They did say that the cut was for higher quality games, models, and animations and they didn't lie at all... it just took them two years to show it. Well, sort of. Gen 7's national dex was nonexistent, rather it existed but the dex itself and all entries were removed and in exchange we got some of the best Pokemon games out there.

SwSh may have ripped the bandaid off too soon, but idk if they waited until PLA it may have been evem worse: the dream Pokemon game that everyone wanted and boom, not all mons are in it. That would be a total hype killer. SwSh was at least a letdown in more ways than one so maybe 4000 IQ play by GF.

Also, I feel like people still hoping for the NatDex are on copium. 1000+ new/revamped HQ models would probably bloat the game.

Things would have absolutely been different.
Sword and shield is a barren game and having all the Pokemon would have helped with that. And we know they could do it, because they patched some in later.

Now in Legends if they got rid of the national dex but offered the new gameplay as it's replacement it would have been better.
