My guess is to bring back the fallers concept that the 3DS games had, and expand the lore of the multiverse. This is straight up Ingo from B&W, the game doesn't hide it, and there are some substansial differences such as Hidden Moves being absent PLA's universe.

Ingo himself is the game's battle facility after his arc so there's not much after that. But he's huge for lore purposes.

I've waited years for Sega to start doing cool stuff with this series again.

- The Movie, which has a third film already on the way after the second, with miniseries(s?) in the works as well

- Sonic Origins giving us new ports of the old games rather than emulation, opening up a new potential era of mods and hacks, as well as any QoL adjustments Sega themselves make.

- The comic is baller.

- Sonic Prime has potential.

- Frontiers

the Rogen movie was announced a couple years ago, but last year was revealed to be released next year (while we also still have the Colin Jost and Rise movies being worked on), so the villain movies are brand new news

Sandy is supposed to be one of the characters getting a movie since Patrick already has a show (Squidward is apparently getting a show or something like that for himself as well based on the past)

the iCarly show is more of a sequel than a reboot (it merely grew up like what Lizzie McGuire wanted to do)

Dora is also getting a new cgi series as well as an older live action series

and despite no talks about it, we still have Avatar Studios working on Avatar projects (plus Aang being the reason for us seeing SpongeBob and Sonic together via painting)
