Not the Gen 7 slander too, you're killing me.
Just found out I can't transfer BB Greninja from the demo to my copy of Ultra Moon, because GF hates us. The slander will only increase.
But seriously, Gen 5's main attempt is that it was meant to be different. Completely original dex, a whole different typ of region, a hard focus on the story, more involved characters and a banger soundtrack make Gen 5 stand out above the rest. I'm not sure if you played B&W, but if you can get past the unique differences that made Gen 5 stand out, you're bound to have a good time.
Ok, so here are the problems; having absolutely no Pokémon from previous gens before finishing the game was another terrible decision from that generation, I also don't like how to region is literally just a circle and progression is too linear. Also related to the linearity problem, is the plot. Here is the thing: I like great and complex plots in something like Metal Gear or Final Fantasy, but in Pokémon, I really value freedom and the feeling I'm just living my own adventure, without the plot getting in the way. That's what the plot does in those gens in particular, they get in the way, specially in gen 7, sooooooo much cutscene.... it took a while for me to realize that the feeling that I'm still in the tutorial would never go away playing that game and the feeling of freedom or that I'm on my own adventure would never come. Because the avatar was quite literally not in their own adventure in-universe either, it was a guided tour. Gosh, gen 7 was just such a disappointing experience, no wonder I was even burned out of Pokémon after I finished it.
Oh, back to gen 5, there were many other things that gen bothered me too that I don't even remember right now, but yeah, not a fan.
Oh, and having banger soundtracks is the only good thing Pokémon games consistently do, it's not a place where gen 5 stands out.
