I honestly thought over it but I admit if I wasn't such a hardcore kaiju fan I probably wouldn't have liked Godzilla vs. Kong, really the movie was two plots put into one with a dash of Vs. in it. The whole Kong in the hollow earth and Godzilla going "rogue" really should have been two separate films. That said my feelings are suddenly complicated regarding the film.

But...I get that unlike the MCU, Toho's and Legendary's contract and deal is nothing like the former and they only had the rights to Mechagodzilla for a limited time and since they were unsure if this film was gonna be successful or not they decided to go all out. So I can let that slide I guess.

I know the future can't be predicted but Toho and Legendary should have had a longer deal and contract that way the MonsterVerse could have been something like this.

MonsterVerse (My Version); Chronological order:
1. Kong: Skull Island
2. Godzilla
3. Godzilla: King of the Monsters
4. Godzilla 3 (Involving the Godzilla going "rogue" subplot)
5. Godzilla vs. Kong (Involves trying to bring Kong to the hollow earth as his new home due to Skull Island's destabilized weather, Godzilla senses his presence and sees him as a threat to his alpha status as well as ancient rivalry thus movie could involve human characters trying to protect Kong from Godzilla who is hunting him down)
6. Kong 2: Hollow Earth

Edit: Hmmm, then again this could be revolved with an Extended Director's Cut helping the plot work more. Never thought about that actually.
