It's not about having the arguments end, remember what we've been arguing for to begin with. We should care what his fate is, we shouldn't just throw it out the window just because we're tired of listening to detractors or worried about his fate. We've listened to detractors and have been questioning his fate for so long now, I think we can manage a maximum of 2 months more of it while still caring about our dragon.

I agree with this sentiment, I was going to post something to the effect; however, I could not think of a plausible way to phrase it. It DOES matter. This is the moment we have been waiting for, some of us longer than others. There is no way we should not care based on what other people think of the character.
