Other M Ridley is going to be the worst nightmare of all Megaman players, he has more spikes than Sonic and Bowser combined =D

A petition, Divine? Really? Are you seriously trying to start a civil rights movement for the right to play as Ridley?

If anyone cares, I do have a petition going on for Sakurai to reinstate Ridley in Super Smas Bros 4! :) http://petitions.moveon.org/sign/we-want-ridley-in-smash?source=c.url&r_by=8615813
Yo mate, just some advice. If you want to support Ridley - say it in your sig, put him in your avatar, draw him on Miiverse for the SSB community, keep topics like this alive and well with relevant topics, vote for him on GameFAQs or here or something when able. All of those are way more effective means of support than petitions like that :)
And as noted, Sakurai's already got a roster down, now it's just a matter of time...

For those that call other m Ridley a duck, because of his head structure, are a bit off. His face more closely resembles a pterosaur's. My example rhamphorhynchus.

Wasn't thinking when I created it. The coloration and year match though, except for eye color that matches the original sprite from Metroid.

I just want point out to certain members that Melee's intro didn't make Ridley popular, Super metroid did.

I can't help it, he was needed long ago, if sakurai still wants to keep trolling Ridley fans it will not surprise me to see alot of people not be very excited for ssb4.
No character is needed. I may have my issues with Ridley not being playable, but I'm not going to say that he's a necessary addition to this game. No potential addition at this point is really, even the ones that we know have made the cut.

well... Ridley won't be a dealbreaker. I'm still going to buy both Smash 4 games. however, I believe that Ridley is of such a high historical and canonical importance that it would be foolish for him to not be invited to join the fight. if he isn't put in it won't detract from my overall experience but I will lament the missed opportunity.

Pretty much my point of view.
Ridley not being in will be a disappointment since he's a rather major character in the Metroid franchise, but it's not really a dealbreaker. I'll play the games regardless.
Even if it means Samus is doomed to be the only character from her series.

No character is needed, per se, because 'needed' implies the game would crash and burn miserably without them. That said, take away any given character already playable, and you piss off a faction of people who have vested interest in the game, partially due to that character. To take away the most important and essential characters is to sow seeds of deep distrust within the fanbase as to whether or not the game is competently made. This is why no one with any shred of sanity will ever consider the possibility that the Yoshis, Falcons, Warios and Diddys will be cut...because, for this reason among others, they won't be. Sakurai is aware of this.

As this relates to newcomers? I think people in general overestimate the importance with which the average buyer views newcomers. Veterans, graphics, gameplay, loyalty, and generic "fun" are all, if I had to guess, above newcomers in terms of why Smash appeals to as many people as it does. That said, Smash has the benefit of not having reached the point of being a case of diminished returns (see: Mario Kart and especially Party), as well as the benefit of having added the most popular newcomers to each subsequent game thus far (sans Ridley in Brawl). To go against the grain and flood the roster with nobodies in lieu of All-Stars for the first time, just to arbitrarily mix things up, may not damage this game, and the Sakophants certainly won't think any less of it (and will think less of anyone who does because screw caring about character quality), but I think it's a dangerous precedent to set with Smash as a series. I believe Sakurai is aware of this, and barring theatric hyperbole or a complete misread on my end, finds character selection 'stressful to the brink of death' because he's not just adding characters on a whim, but legitimately evaluating what they can bring and subsequently making the best judgment call possible.

Im currently having a PRECRY since he hasnt been announced yet and they keep showing that damn hole that may be damning or just what we need.

"I'm mad about what you said so I'm going to bring up some characters you like and say they don't have good chances EITHER >:["

y u so cute?
Never really implied that I was mad, but whatever satisfies your needs of being cocky and witty I guess. I just find it funny that people that seriously argue that these characters have a really good chance go in here to tell us that Ridley has no chance. But hey, everyone's views are skewed by what characters people support and dislike, so it's not that I take anything from it, like I said, I just find it funny.

I think excluding Ridley is a much bigger deal this time since there frankly is very few characters left that have the notability and popularity that Ridley has. Really, the only ones left as famous as Ridley is are Mario characters, possibly the DK duo, and Little Mac.

The "star" pool is much worse this time than it was with Brawl. I think in terms of characters there is definitely going to be less hype this time around than with Brawl.

Yeah, that's my worry. If Ridley isn't in, then there's no characters left that could possibly get me super hyped, K. Rool would be cool but not anything that'd get me jumping from my seat, because the rest of my favorite Nintendo characters got in Brawl. They really need to get nearly all of the most wanted characters on the boat this time to create anything that can even resemble the Brawl hype, missing Ridley (or K. Rool for that matter) would deal a very heavy blow to the hype department. But hey, they already have 1/4 of the massive hype characters (Mega Man, Ridley, K. Rool and Mewtwo) so let's hope they can get them all in.

Mewtwo is guaranteed for sure. Little Mac will also probably make it in thanks to that rumor.

If Ridley does not make it in, I would definitely be worried about K. Rool (and Dixie Kong for that matter).

Yeah, I'm seeing Mewtwo and Little Mac as locks for sure.

If Ridley doesn't get in, then I'd actually feel like K. Rool's chances are upped. Think about it, Ridley's exclusion would be on other merits than what could affect K. Rool, Ridley's chances are iffy because he's a character who's harder to implement than most others. If Ridley isn't in, what other heavy weight character could they possibly introduce other than K. Rool? It's kind of funny, fans of each character support each other very much, but the deconfirmation of one of these characters will boost the chances of the other one, because these are pretty much the only eligible heavy weight characters, unless they make some doofus move like making Mewtwo heavy weight like they did with Snake in Brawl.

I really don't see that (Sakurai wanting to include at least one heavy weight). For all we know, an entirely revamped Ganondorf could be his heavyweight "newcomer".

I think for both K. Rool and Dixie Kong, they are both character we won't know whether or not they are actually in the game until Smash 4 actually releases. There is basically no opportunity for them to be de-confirmed as a boss, stage hazard, or Assist Trophy.

I think some people are going to panic about them though if it ends up with us getting a new DK stage based off of Country Returns, and many people will think he will be basing the entire DK series representation solely (or mostly) off of that one game like he seems to be doing with Metroid and Other M.

I do think we're getting at least one of each weight class, would be incredibly odd if we didn't.

I can definitely see panic spreading if we're getting a Returns stage revealed. I'm kind of expecting a Returns stage though, so I'm not gonna take it as anything too crucial. With K. Rool and Dixie it's really just what one of them it's gonna be, because one of them are definitely going to get in. My guess is that no matter what one of them are in they're gonna be unlockable (Dixie because of a similar appearance to Diddy, and K. Rool because he'd easily be the Mewtwo/Wolf of this game,) so I'm ready for a long wait.

We really only have a year left at this point (at the absolute latest I can only see Smash 4 being delayed to the first or second week of December next year). That is really not much longer if you think about it (we have already waited close to six years already, the same amount of time as from Melee to Brawl).

Wow, I'm not sure why but in my head I had made it out to be an eternity until this game comes out, but yeah, we're already in the later half of this year. It's kind of weird to think that all this speculation will have an answer in at least a year, and we Ridley supporters might even get an answer before that.

We are basically going into the final quarter of 2013.

Smash 4 is either going to be released in November or December next year. The dire situation for the Wii U has made it so that they can't delay the game into 2015.

The difference between most other potential newcomers and Ridley right now is there's a real good chance Ridley is a stage hazard. That's why other newcomers have a better chance than Ridley. Because there is a good chance he's not playable. That's really it.

Discuss the stage hazard thing again? Ugh, I think we've done that enough, and most people around here feel pretty good about it since he'd have been shown by now if he was a stage hazard, furthermore it's kind of obvious what Sakurai is doing by having all these specific images that look everywhere in the stage, even right into the hole. Sakurai's quote most likely referred to Other M, just like how every quote he makes along with stages refers to what happened at the location in the source game, not only with the Reset Bomb stage, but also with just about every opening line to a stage introduction on the Brawl Dojo.

People will always jump to conclusions if you give them the chance. Lest we forget, the crapfest that was Rumble Falls was revealed before Diddy as well pre-Brawl.

There being a likely slot for a superheavyweight newcomer is a concept I floated, and I think, based on precedent, it's solid enough. Donkey Kong, Bowser, and Dedede in order have all filled this role in each subsequent Smash, and I see no reason to expect it to change, given that's a visually obvious form of diversity within a newcomer list, and that there's a player demographic that specifically enjoys those characters. A counterpoint I've considered would be that Bowser 3.0 would qualify instead of a newcomer, but as far as we know, his attacks are unchanged beyond a new F-Smash and three or fewer aerials (F-Air and D-Air were shown as unchanged).

I see absolutely no scenario where Dixie is not an unlockable, given that she's the heir to Wolf/Toon Link and three Kongs on the starting roster would be bizarre. However, if K. Rool becomes the new Dedede in terms of featuring in the first event match and being a hype vehicle, I can see the case for him being a starter. Out of the Core Four, Ridley and K. Rool strike me as the starters, while Mewtwo and Mega Man strike me as the unlockables, strictly based on gut feelings.

Ridley is still more likely than Krystal at least.

The Japanese think post-64 games are absolute trash.
