i think its safe to say that it is indeed a marketing scam everyone except peach was revealed to promote there games either way October is gonna be NuTZ.

1 ridley is deconfirm believers are screwed toon link is both a stage background and playable

2 this concludes for me that octobers characters are going to be both mewtwo and sonic

3 if ridley is a stage hazard now can be playable as well and double good news the ridley we all love deep down could be the playable one (aka and thats the super metroid ridley as playable and other m ridley as hazard)

4 now im 100% positive that luigi is still unlockable i mean do you believe that both links will be starters

So because of toon link being confirmed you guys are banned from saying ridley is deconfirmed if other m ridley is stage hazard we can definably get the super metroid one as playable now

Ok, so just how many Ridleys are there? One was blown up in Metroid and became Meta-Ridley, got upgraded into Omega Ridley and then somehow became normal again for Super Metroid. Then Other M happened a new Ridley with all the same memories was made then it got killed then it's body got possessed.

So 2 overall.

As Xhampi pointed out, there's also Neo-Ridley, which is a clone of the clone Ridley. It's pretty whacky.

The first Zero Mission Ridley battle is the real one, and how he originally looked before becoming Meta Ridley. Then it goes Prime 1, 3 and then finally Super Metroid.

-Metroid 1/Zero Mission.
-Metroid Prime 1 as Meta Ridley.
-Metroid Prime 3 as Meta Ridley then as Omega Ridley.

- Metroid Other M as Little Birdie then as the Mystery Creature and finally as himself, he is killed by the Metroid Queen.
-His remains appear in Metroid Fusion where they are destroyed by the X.

Ridley Robot :
-Build by Ridley in Zero Mission, destroyed at the end of the game.

Neo Ridley :
-A copy made by the X in Fusion thanks to the Ridley clone remains, killed by Samus.

Ridley wasn't in Metroid II. And that's just Sakamoto being butthurt that Prime was more successful and better accepted than his precious Other M.

The truly ironic thing is that even the Prime trilogy is held in much better regard in Sakamoto's native Japan than Other M is.

Yeah, as I said before, I continue to be on edge about Ridley until there is a confirmed hazard for the Pyrosphere that's not Ridley.

However, the confirmation of Toon Link has made me more optimistic about Toad.

While it would be possible for Ridley to be both a stage hazard and playable, I would think he would have his Other M design if he were playable, like Samus does. If Other M Ridley is a hazard, I'd not consider the regular Ridley to have much of a chance.

The only thing that makes me think even slightly otherwise is the fact that different art styles and game reps still exist within Smash 4 (Toon Link), but if Ridley is a hazard, I'd imagine that's it.

SSB4 Link leans heavily in one direction, but he's an amalgamation of both the characters. He's not straight up just TP Link.

Not to mention a TP stage is possible since we will probably get two or three Zelda stages, or the TP stage from Brawl can return as a Classic stage.

To be fair, Toon Link's inclusion has massive implications about Ridley's playability, so discussing him makes sense.

I actually have a tiny bit of hope now for Ridley.

I think the problem is more that people are starting to get way off track about it, to the point where Ridley got bored and just went to get a snack instead.

This doesn't change my views on his chances since I was expecting Toon Link anyway, but anyone who didn't will probably change their perception of Ridley because of it. It certainly helps our arguments for him, at least.

I had no idea, but thanks for the explanation. I just can't fight the urge to defend any version of Ridley, except the orginal artwork. I'm so glad Super Metroid reconned that design.

The design of the organic purple Ridley in general (not just in Other M) is based a bit more on a pterodactyl or some pterosaur than an actual dragon anyway. Say, wasn't pterodactyl the first Pink Ranger's dinozord? It's morphin time!

I think Toon Link's early confirmation just restored some hope with Ridley fans and Toad fans. But it is a little disappointing that he seems like he's still a clone. I guess I'll stick with Toon Link again since it is likely Link will still suck like he did in Brawl.

I really really hope there will be more of a balance between Toon Link and the adult Link (in terms of how good they are in certain areas and such) than there was in Brawl per se. Was ridiculous how much better Toon was than the adult version in Brawl, but other than that yeah.

Same here honestly. I mean back when Meta-Ridley's music theme was one of the many tracks revealed in an update during pre-Brawl (not too long before the whole leak), that got me too optimistic into thinking Ridley would have a dual role, where one verson's playable and the other one's a boss. Obviously that optimism backfired, so if Other M Ridley's shown as a hazard or something other than playable, I'm not really going to cling to the thought of him having a dual role like Toon Link like I did last time. Would only take that much more a blow to my disappointment level if worst comes to worst for Ridley.

The difference between most other potential newcomers and Ridley right now is there's a real good chance Ridley is a stage hazard. That's why other newcomers have a better chance than Ridley. Because there is a good chance he's not playable. That's really it.

Off the record, concerning that real/how many Ridley's there are:

Metroid/Zero Mission's Ridley had already "died" prior to the series. The scene depicted in the manga/the Other M commercial shows Ridley attacking Samus' space colony when she was young. This ended with both of Samus' parents sacrificing themselves (her mother jumping in front of Ridley's fire to shield her, and her father infiltrated the Space Pirates/Ridley's ship and detonated a bomb that blew both him and the pirate forces, including Ridley, to kingdom come). Ridley survived by repairing his cellular structure by consuming the dead flesh of all those killed on K2L. In the manga he even comments on how he was reborn, and proceeded in triggering Samus' PTSD even worse than the Other M depiction. He is referred to as the Cunning God of Death in Japan for a reason.

It's also speculated that the Space Pirates just keep cloning a new one each time there is a plot hole, with Meta/Omega Ridley being the only truly confirmed same creature fought previously. Reminds me of that idea someone posted earlier about there being an army of Ridleys.

I like to think that it's basically the same Ridley revived over and over. I even consider the Other M clone and the X mutation as the original Ridley- dude just won't die and he's got a thing for Samus. there's got to be some aspect of his personality and memories carried over with each reincarnation.
