The dated information in this one is so strong.

No mention of Rosalina.
Villager just as ''Animal Crossing Guy."
Greninja as ''Pokemon from X and Y"
Yet some how got the correct name for Mii in Mii Fighters.

I'm really doubtful that this is it Roster Wise. Sal's source probably was fired or let go very early in the roster decision process.

Regarding the "Mii Fighter" thing, wasn't Nintendo's E3 press site easily publicly accessible because of an obvious username/password combination, where "Mii Fighter" was mentioned? I recall seeing someone mention that here, and it was just glossed over. That is where the guy could have updated his list to "Mii Fighter" despite everything else showing he has old information.

That would explain things very well. It would also explain why Ness/Lucas were still up for debate, too, since his information really was extremely old. It also means we can only use the info he had as a guideline and nothing more.

Well yeah. But I would also like Pigmasks and Starmen.

It's a real shame that Mother isn't very popular, cause there are a lot of good enemies to choose from. Especially among the chimeras from Mother 3.
See, thing is, Mother IS really popular. It's still prevalent in Japan - that is to say, it's always selling merchandise - and Earthbound is still fresh on people's minds here in America, as well as its original cult following. Can't really say much for Europe since I never looked far into it, but..

.. anyway, point is, Mother IS really popular still, but because Itoi wants absolutely nothing to do with it anymore, even the Japanese think it's a dead series. Which, as I've argued before, it is unless Itoi randomly decides to revive it. Since that will never happen, the series is effectively dead. So I'd imagine Sakurai feels the same way, and isn't receptive to the idea of a Mother newcomer 'cause it's a better long term strategy to add pretty much anything else.

Which is a shame because, as I've said, Mother deserves to be memorialized, if it's not going to see any new games.

I thought he just considered his story told. Has he really distanced himself from it? Cause that would be really sad.
He considers it finished.
What Peacock said.

Which is sad, 'cause you don't necessarily have to follow Lucas or Ness or Ninten or anything. Start a new story if you have to. People clearly want more Mother, just Itoi's never going to do anything with it anymore and, as I said before, Nintendo won't ever go out and make their own 'cause they give Itoi the utmost respect. Soooo..

.. now I sit here and wait for the fanmade Mother 4 for my fix.

Mother is popular. Just look at Earthbound on Virtual Console.
As for PAL regions, Mother was brought to its attention thanks to Smash. Just from being in the Europe and Oceania Miiverse communities you could tell Earthbound was highly requested title for VC.

I'm just really learning about this leak now. I'm really disapointed that it's almost certainly true. Chorus Men? No K Rool, Ridley, or Mewtwo? All three of the "big 3" left off, yet we get ****ing Chorus Men. ****.

At no point has the leak said that the characters they're revealing are the ONLY new characters that are gonna be in. If they had, Rosalina would have put the nail in its coffin.

Wasn't aware of that, but if that was the case last year, would that explain how the Gematsu leaker came up with the original six characters?

-Villager, Mega Man, and Wii Fit Trainer would have all been in screenshots on the press site; I know that they released a ton of screenshots to the press after E3
-Little Mac would have been assumed due to the boxing stage
-Miis could have been confused with the Villager from behind, or maybe it was just assumed since they're in just about every Nintendo game?
-Pac-Man would have been assumed because Namco's working on the game

I don't know how much material is put on the E3 press site, but if last year's material could be accessed early, it would explain a lot, especially since most the characters in the Gematsu leak (aside from Wii Fit Trainer, the Chorus Men, and maybe Villager depending on how you look at it) are really obvious.

Likewise, Mewtwo isn't a newcomer, so why would he mention them? He's mentioned two veterans, and only because of one of them possibly being out.

Pokemon anime =/= the games though. It's almost an entirely separate canon. Right now Pokemon is all about Lucario, Pikachu, (sometimes) Mewtwo and whatever starter Ash happens to be training at the time.
This was my point. The anime and movies hold almost no water when it comes to smash bros.
If it really did, we would have gotten Ash instead of Red, because he's more "promoted". This is where Mewtwo's "relevance" in X and Y fades. He's SCARCELY mentioned in-game. he's just thrown in the post game with no fan-fare or reason. He wasn't important aside for pre-release. anyone that actually played the games, knows this. It's for this reason that I don't see why people like to throw him in the coveted 47th spot on the roster now.

Not according to Sakurai. He explained that they look at characters who will be promoted a lot such as in the anime and movies. He's not going to use characters SPECIFICALLY from those (such as Ash), but the Pokemon, yes, because they're the same in any way you look at it.

So I was at Smashfest today, and I noticed something that caught my eye that hints to Chorus Men being confirmed.

THE SAL LEAK IS REAL

Wait, are we still discussing the 47th slot? I don't think we have any reason to doubt the return of every Star Fox/and Pokemon veteran barring Squirtle/Ivy.

Why?... WHY?!!! >: (
While I can understand that you may upset at the prospects of our beloved hero not returning for the latest Smash Bros, please try not derail the the thread. :) Thanks!

Leak aside, we still see surprises around every corner, so let's all wait and see together, hm?

With the vague wording on Lucas's fate, it's true both if he's playable, and if he's not.

This is a great point and completely falls in line with my "knew first 3 and guessed other really likely chars + an oddball" belief.

I think the rhythm heaven enemy is mostly irrelevant, but does increase chorus men/marshal's chances. Ultimately, though, there's nothing stated that enemies in smash run correspond only to playable chars. Heck ICs aren't confirmed yet and we have their enemies...
Is there any possibility that the rhythm heaven enemy has been shown before and we missed it, or didn't have access to it somehow?

If it had been shown before, SOMEONE would have seen it, considering how any news site that discusses Smash is most likely aware of this leak.

Mii Fighters have been confirmed not to be on the select screen. So assuming 4 rows with 12 slots each, and every veteran returning except for Squirtle, Ivysaur, Lucas, and Snake, there's still somebody missing.

Is that so? Then I say Lucas is still a highly likely candidate.

Lucas and Ness. He said they're not sure if Lucas or Ness will be cut, but leaning towards Lucas (which also destroys the "Original 12" argument, since they were considering cutting Ness, granted only Ness and Jigglypuff are in any danger of being cut from the Original 12).

I'd say it's a toss up between Mewtwo and Lucas. 48 is probably the best number, as you have 4 rows of 12 for Wii U, and 6 rows of 8 for 3DS. Assuming Mii doesn't have a slot, Sal Leak is true, all Brawl vets minus Snake, Ivysaur, and Squirtle, and Rosalina, we get 48. However, Mewtwo's return isn't entirely out of the question.

Please ignore the bad organization. I just threw characters in to see what worked.
Top 6 rows = 3DS CSS, Bottom 4 rows = Wii U CSS

I'm kind of new to hearing about this leak as well.

I also heard that this guy has leaked that every Brawl character will be returning except for Lucas and Snake. I couldn't find any confirmation of that in the opening post, though (except for Lucas's exclusion). Can anyone confirm/deny that that's part of the leak?

I don't think he ever said anything about Snake.

The only thing the guy mentioned about veterans returning is that there was debate about keeping either Ness or Lucas, with the former being favored.

No, that has nothing to do with the Gematsu leak. The only veterans brought up with Gematsu is Ness/Lucas.
