Well once a month there's the DB series down in Glen Ellyn, which is more than I can get to.

Yo, so I'm taking megabus to chicago then back to nebraska on the 20th, but there's like 2 hours in the middle there I have nothing to do and I don't want to be stranded downtown chicago because I think I'm about the size of small asian that gangsters like to mug. no one else is really close to the city sans Akashi/Meneil so :/

from our place, union station is a 30min commute, and that's if you're lucky with trains. Sorry, but it wouldn't be worth your time
