The Official Ike Video Critique Thread

Credit and props go to Kimchi for initially creating this thread!

Welcome to the official Ike video critique thread. This thread will be the source for people to post videos of their gameplay with Ike and have the videos critiqued by Ikes on this forum. Post here to have someone critique your video. Do not start a new thread. Please, before posting any videos up for critique, read these rules.

Rule #1: Try not to post more than 2 or 3 videos a day.
It'll be really hard to keep this organized if more than 3 videos are being critiqued a day. Keeping the limit on only 2 or 3 videos will allow people who critique your videos to give the most concise and appropriate review of your gameplay.

Rule #2: Please do try to post the videos that best reflect your style of play with Ike.
Every player has a different style and by posting the video that best reflects yours, the critics can point out what exactly is wrong with your style, how you can fix it, and what was good about your style.

Rule #3: To the critics, please be honest in critiquing a video.
I'm sure no one would not like to be heavily criticized. However, by listening to honest criticism, one could improve their gameplay tremendously. Don't give false praise if one did not play well. Point out what he/she did wrong and give thorough advice. This way, people will know exactly what they did wrong and can improve on that aspect of their gameplay.

Rule #4: Once your video has been critiqued, try to refrain from posting another video until a week later.
By doing so, the critics could see how you have changed over that time and point out what you still might be doing wrong. Posting videos every day will likely not show much difference.

Rule #5: Be as concise and clear as possible when giving a critique.
A good format is to post the various different times of the video at which the player did something good or something wrong. At the end of the write-up, try to write an overall statement about the video and wrap it up.

I'm sure no one is playing perfectly with Ike. I hope that this thread will help many people who have trouble in some aspect of their gameplay. Let's provide constructive criticism as well as honest praise! With all this said, let's critique our friends!
Write away!

@ Penta: Match 1:
0:09: Good job with the Jab, Jab to Bthrow. You could have pummeled at least once or twice for some extra damage though. That wouldn't have hurt.
0:16: I'm going to assume that you predicted that the Ness would double jump quick? If so, nice try ^^. If not, try to avoid the random Fsmashes :p.
0:19: Try not to roll so much into Ness. As you probably saw, PK Fire hurts :X.
0:26: Again, you could have pummeled here.
0:36: Good job predicting the roll.
1:08: That was a nice spike.
1:16: Try to shield all of Ness's Fair. It's annoying, but better not to take any damage.
1:26: Good Finish.
Overall comment: You played good, but you could have pummeled when you grabbed the Ness a lot of times. Sometimes, you also threw out Nair randomly and you got grabbed for it :o. But good job.

The link to Bang's first match is broken, by the way >.>. Just as a suggestion for the structure of the OP, you should make it so that the name of the critic is the link to the critique by putting the name of the critique between the "url=as;lkjslfkjs" and "/url" (open/closed quotation marks = open/closed brackets) to save some space.

1st match (vs. Bionic's Ganondorf):

0:06 - QD as an attack has its uses, but not at 0%; it's massive cool-down time and minuscule knockback+hitstun will get you punished quite badly, even if you hit with it. At that range and %, it would've been better for you to go for the jab or grab.
0:10 - When using FAir, you want to abuse it's massive hitbox as much as possible by hitting your opponent with the tip of the sword; you don't have to (and shouldn't) jump into your opponent to score a hit.
0:15 - Again, QD is a bad attack to just throw out a low %s. It would've been better to go for the FAir or maybe NAir.
0:16 - As a general rule of thumb, you want to shut out your opponents with Ike's range while keeping them within range of your own attacks (spacing). Rather than moving into your opponent with NAir, you should've moved back from them. This would've put you in the position to follow-up the NAir with a short-hopped BAir.
0:20 - Counter worked the first time, but he was too far to hit with any aerial attacks; at that distance, the only moves he would be able to use are probably his down+B (which is weak) or side+B. Side+B, his best option in that scenario, cannot be Counter'd.
0:23 - Your spacing on the FAir wasn't too good; you should short-hop the FAir and try to hit your opponent with the tip of your attack.
0:25 - QD worked this time, but you're lucky that your opponent didn't just shield and punish you. You should only use it in a safe opportunity where your opponent cannot punish you and if you have no better options.
0:26 + 0:28 - There we go; this is where you should be hitting your FAirs.
0:32 - Nice use of QD; rather than connecting with it, you used it to get around and BAir him.
0:37 - DTilt in general is not a good edgeguarding move; you should've just edgehogged him rather than go for the spike, since they'll just auto-sweetspot. You could've also tried a walk-off DAir, but it would've been overkill and riskier than the edgehog.
0:40 - Rather than just staying on the edge, you should've tried to punish your opponent during his landing lag; Aether, FAir, DAir, or NAir would've been great options.
0:41 - Why did you FAir when your opponent was below and behind you? If it was a messed up edgehop, then that's understandable, but you should've done it earlier.
0:48 - Rather than QD, you should've abused your invinicbility frames and try running up with an USmash or using a dash attack.
0:50 - Instead of going fancy with the BAir, it would've been easier to just punish him with an USmash, which has a considerably bigger hitbox.
0:52 - You shouldn't have BAir'd when your opponent rolled away from you, nor should you have drifted towards your opponent when you saw that you missed.
1:02 - Why did you Counter after your opponent attacked?
1:05 - Instead of FAir'ing when your opponent was right next to you, you should've tried to go for the NAir, which can also set up for other attacks at that low %.
1:07 - Again, you should use QD.
1:09 - If you want to hit an opponent on the ground, you should short-hop FAir rather than use it from a double-jump.
1:11 - At that %, it would've been better to try and rack up damage with jabs instead of an FTilt.
1:13 - Rather than using DAir, which has very limited horizontal range, you should used an USmash to cover most of his options with its enormous hitbox.
1:15 - At close range, it's much better to jab than to FTilt.
1:20 - It was risky to Aether at that distance from the stage and right after he had grabbed onto the edge; don't be tempted into hitting auto-sweetspoters with Aether, wait for their invincibility to end before using Aether.
1:23 - QD worked, but short-hopping a FAir would've been a better option.
1:26 - You landed a NAir, but you should've tried to follow up from it earlier than waiting for a bit.
1:27 - Try not to drift towards opponents when you miss an attack.
1:30 - At that distance, he was too far to hit you with any aerial except maybe FAir; Counter was a bad choice, especially since you used it after he charged the FSmash (which had no way of hitting you).
1:31 - You weren't punished for it, but you shouldn't have moved towards your opponent after you missed the BAir.
1:32 - You shouldn't finish the jab combo when your second hit doesn't connect and when your opponent is behind you; you should've gone for the turn-around jab or grab.
1:35 - You probably should've gone for the grab or jab at that distance, rather than running for a bit.
1:37 - Counter would've worked if he UAir'd, but in general you're using it too much; a smarter opponent would've waited for you to Counter, then nail you with a Smash attack.
1:40 - You could've punished him with a FAir instead of just standing there. Shielding doesn't block the side+B, either.
1:42 - When your opponent is directly on top of you, you should just shield; even if he doesn't hit your shield, you can just grab him.
1:50 - Nice DAir spike.
1:55 - At 0%, you should be focusing on racking up damage; NAir is better for that than FAir, since it sets up nicely for a jab or grab.
1:57 - Your opponent didn't punish for it, but you shouldn't have moved into him after the BAir.
2:00 - Why QD? It would've sent your opponent up and you were close enough to just run to the edge.

General comments: You should work on your spacing more, focusing on hitting your opponent with the tip of your attacks. You should also use QD and Counter much less, since both moves are easily punishable and not very good anyway. You should use jabs MUCH more; it's Ike's fastest move, racks up some easy damage, and sets up for grabs and even BAirs. Be sure to use more jab cancels (press down after a single jab) to be able to follow up with other attacks. You should also use more grabs; DThrow puts people in the air and sets up for ground stalking while BThrow -> dash attack can combo.

Bang's 2nd match:

0:07 - QD actually seems pretty helpful against Sonic's spin attacks (I haven't played a Sonic offline before), but at that % landing it would only get you punished.
0:10 - You should've NAir'd or dropped down from the platform with a BAir instead of FAiring at that moment; your opponent was too close for FAir to be safe.
0:12 - Unless you know Bionic's style for playing Sonic, you can't assume that he'll hit you just yet. You should only use Counter when you're 99% sure that your opponent will try and hit you; until then, you should play it safe with NAirs and FAirs. In this case though, you should only use NAir because Sonic can just dash in and grab you after the FAir.
0:13 - Instead of doing only a full jab combo, you should try doing jab (cancel) -> jab combo; it tags on a little extra damage, which could help a lot in the long run.
0:15 - Again, QD at low % is a bad thing even if you hit. You should've tried a dash attack instead.
0:17 - At that height, you should've known FAir would be too slow to connect with; it would've been better to go for the NAir.
0:19 - When you saw that he missed the grab, you should've gone for a jab or a grab of your own instead of BAir. This is because he is at a low %; you want to rack up some damage before using the harder-hitting moves like BAir.
0:21 - In general, it's a bad idea to try to land on your opponent with DAir like that; using a NAir is much safer, especially when Sonic can use his haxors speed to grab you while you're suffering landing lag.
0:23 - When you heard the Spindash after you missed the jab, you should've either went on the defensive with jab or shield rather than try deflecting it with the slower FTilt. Also, it's understandable that you'd think he'd try and BAir you after the UAir, but you should've noticed that he used his jump to get the UAir out; you could've tried punishing him with a BAir rather than a Counter.
0:29 - You should be focusing on hitting your opponent with the tip of your attack, rather than jumping into them. Also, you can supposedly tech the beginning hit of Sonic's DThrow; I haven't tried it before, but there was a thread floating around somewhere (in the Tactical Brawl Discussion, I think) that was posted in by some very big Sonic names, so the information is credible.
0:34 - Counter is actually an okay move to use in this instance, but watch it if they bait you into Countering before they release the charge; then they can cancel it with a shield and then grab you.
0:35 - Again, don't QD at low %s; try going for it at 60+ and only when you have no other way to hit them. Running up with a grab would've been the better option here.
0:37 - He failed to punish for it, but you could've gotten grabbed.
0:40 - Most Sonics will DAir after up+B'ing; if you expect this, you can try going for an Aether when they come down.
0:45 - FAir was a bad idea; you could've gotten BAir'd in the back while in the air. NAir'ing or coming down with an airdodge would've been a better idea.
0:46 - Try not to finish the jab combo when you notice that the other hits didn't connect.
0:49 - Even if that Eruption was meant to be a Counter, it would've been safer to airdodge the BAir and then go for a BAir of your own.
1:01 - Instead of BAir'ing, it would've been better to Aether here.
1:04 - He was on the ground with a shield, waiting for the shieldgrab; Counter was not the best choice.
1:17 - Your opponent was on the other side of the stage; Counter was a bad idea.
1:20 - You wouldn't have made it back with Aether from that distance; I'm assuming that you meant to do something else.
1:32 - FTilt is not a good option when your opponent is in your face; you should've used jab or grab.
1:35 - FSmash also isn't a good option at close range; you might've been going for an FTilt, but that wasn't a good option either, since your opponent is too fast for it, too close, and wouldn't have died from the hit anyway; it's a killing move, not a move used to rack up damage. Again, use jabs or grabs at close range.
1:39 - DTilt spiking actually is a decent option against Sonic, since he can't auto-sweetspot his up+B; you should've gone for that rather than letting him come up.
1:46 - You should've been more aggressive when he was coming down, rather than let him come.
1:47 - You're lucky that QD hit; he was just standing there and could've easily shielded it. You should only use it when they cannot block it.
1:54 - As cool as it is, FSmashing Sonic won't work unless your opponent is sloppy; they can just wait for it to be released automatically.
1:59 - Why did you USmash when he was on the other side of the stage?
2:04 - Whenever you Aether, you should always try to land on the edge rather than the stage so that you don't suffer from landing lag.
2:15 - Why did you Counter? It would've been better to play it safe with a shield.
2:18 - A DAir spike would've been cool, but it was too unlikely for it to happen, in my opinion; you probably should've gone for the jab combo or attempt a jab -> DTilt spike.
2:20 - I understand that you were trying to hit him, but it would've been better to aim for the edge and then edgehop an attack to hit him.
2:21 - You shouldn't go into your opponent with a FAir, especially when your opponent is fast enough to just run in and grab you during landing lag.
2:33 - Your opponent ALWAYS up+Bs into a DAir; you should've picked up on this habit and capitalized with an Aether.
3:00 - DThrow -> Aether only works at low %s and when your opponent doesn't DI very well; it was a poor choice, in my opinion.
3:13 - It's hard to get off, but you could've at least attempted an edgehop DAir for the spike.
3:22 - You're lucky that you didn't get FSmashed for QD'ing up to your opponent and charging an FSmash of your own.
3:51 - Too many Counters; it's better to just play defensively with airdodges.
4:13 - If your opponent was fast enough, he could've edgehogged you there; be more careful in the future.

General comments: You failed to punish him for the obvious Spring -> DAir tricks; in order to progress your game, you have to be able to pick up on your opponent's patterns and punish them as hard as you can. You used a lot more jabs in this game (which was good) but I didn't see you jab canceling anything; jab canceling can be performed by jabbing and then crouching, which cancels the jab and allows you to follow up with something else. It sets up for a lot of stuff and does some extra damage; it's one of Ike's most useful tricks. You should be more careful on when and where you recover, you could've gotten edgehogged many times if you were playing a more competent player. You should also work on your spacing with aerials, and be more wary of using FAir against Sonics; they are fast enough to run up and grab you during FAir's landing lag.

But good job.
haha yea thanks^_^
i'm getting used to predicting my opponents moves, but sometimes i screw up:(
that's where i miss with fsmash lol
fighting ness is really fun overall lol,it's easy to spike and jab him

ya i did notice those chances i could have landed a few more hits;[
but as soon as i grab,i react right away, and just throw them.
i'll keep that in mind..that extra damage might save me one day lol

Lol, I guess those are my notes that I take while I watch the match; I don't really expect people to go through them, but I imagine that it would be helpful for them to do so. I like to write a general summary at the end so they don't just blank out and think "... wall of text... tl;dr" XD.

PentaSalia Match 2 (vs DK)

0:08 - You mis-spaced your NAir, but I'm assuming that it's because you don't know your opponent's style very well.
0:12 - At close range, FTilt isn't the best option; you should've gone for the jab or the grab.
0:15 - Random BAir?
0:16 - At low %s, you should jab -> jab combo to get in some extra damage rather than just only doing the jab combo.
0:19 - Jab -> DSmash doesn't do that much damage nor does it work every time; I think a jab -> grab would've been better.
0:42 - It probably would've been better to jab at that range; you could've easily gotten shieldgrabbed if your opponent didn't spot-dodge.
0:44 - BThrow -> FSmash is fun to do when your opponent gets sent off-stage and comes back with an airdodge, but you were too far away for this trick to work. BThrow -> dash attack probably would've been the better choice here.
0:58 - The infinite didn't work, but even if you weren't attempting it you should've pummeled once or twice before throwing him, refreshing your moves and tagging on some extra damage.
1:28 - Rather than going for the walk-off FAir, you probably should've gone for the reverse Aetherspike.
1:49 - Running up with an USmash is very easy to see; you should've baited the roll by charging it for a split second. This works against most people, it's a useful trick against people who roll/spotdodge instead of shield.
1:59 - You mis-spaced your FAir a little.
2:04 - Jab -> FTilt doesn't usually work, but it's good to mix up your jab combos and try unorthodox stuff once in a while.
2:08 - It probably wouldn't have killed him because of the stage change, but you should've tried going for the DAir spike through the stage.
2:23 - BThrow -> FTilt shouldn't work; you should've gone for the dash attack instead.

General comments: You definitely know what you're doing, but there's a little too much FTilt for my taste (maybe not yours though). From what I saw in the beginning to the end, it seems like this was over Wi-fi; either that, or you were really rusty when you started. Your grasp of spacing is nice and you have some interesting jab cancel tricks, but you should probably use BThrow -> dash attack more and bait those USmashes when you have invincibility frames. Overall, good work.

Dante match 1:

The first thirty seconds you did really well doing some nairs in the beginning and a foward smash.

00:37- becareful when using QD because just like wat happened u can get powered shield and punished for it.

00:41- a mistake alot of good Ikes face, predicting that the oppnent will roll into you and u do a charged Fsmash. we must remember including muhself that the opponent is not stupid and isnt gonna roll into something like that.

00:56- great job in realizing that once nana is dsynced you punish, and the bair to follow up was pure genius.

1:00- in that situation i would have SH bair to take him out.

1:38- fsmash is awesome when it hits, i do it too, just be mindful its not a 100%

3:02- ftilts would help out in this situation or a SH hop nair or fair to space it out

all in all you did well two stocking IC, gotta remember that fsmash shouldnt be ur bread and butter, and learn SH bair to hit enemies away. I hope I have been helpful :)

Dante Match 2 (vs Icys)

0:20 - FSmash is not a good move at low %; you should only save it for killing or setting up for an edgeguard, and even then it's a very risky move.
0:23 - QD should only be used as an option when your opponent is at a high % and when you have no other way to hit them; at low %s, you're just going to get punished even if you hit them because of the poor knockback and horrendous lag.
0:26 - At close range, jab is a better option than FTilt. Also, you should be focusing on building up damage at low %, so jab is the better option in that aspect as well.
0:27 - Again, FSmash doesn't really work well at low %; it wouldn't have hit anything if Nana's AI wasn't stupid.
0:32 - DThrow -> Aether works when your opponent doesn't DI or airdodge, so it's not too reliable. Be wary of this if you fight better opponents.
0:38 - Don't throw out FSmashes at low %, it doesn't do you much good.
1:58 - Jab -> DTilt is rather slow and doesn't work all the time; it's better to do jab -> UTilt, which is faster and more consistent.
2:01 - Same thing with jab -> FTilt, UTilt is more consistent if your opponent shields as soon as possible.
2:13 - Whenever you use Aether, you should try landing on the edge so that you negate your landing lag.
2:18 - Same thing.
2:26 - That was a cool jab -> kick -> repeat thing for a while, but be aware that better opponents will be able to escape it through good DI. Rather than trying to rack up more damage, it's best to end the jab combo after the second jab -> kick cycle.
2:48 - FTilt is not good at close quarters, FAiring or jabbing would've been the better choice there.
3:04 - FSmash isn't a good option when your opponent is that close.
3:09 - NAir -> FSmash should never land if your opponent knows how to DI and airdodge; you shouldn't go for it, since getting into that habit will make you lose against better opponents.
3:28 - Again, jab -> FTilt doesn't work too well.

General comments: It's hard to give you advice to correct your mistakes, partly because your brother doesn't really know how to play ICs properly (no offense to him). Jab -> anything except BAir and UTilt are not too consistent to depend on, so be aware of that. You were using a lot of FTilt and FSmashes, probably to separate them; this usually doesn't work, since the attacks are slow and easy to shield. You should use more aerials like FAir; it's pretty safe against ICs, since their grab range is pretty mediocre, if not bad. BAir is a staple for Ike, since it's pretty powerful and very fast; I didn't see you use it, so I highly recommend that you try to put yourself in the position to use it. An easy way to get it is to bait airdodges and then BAir or RAR (reverse aerial rush; run, turn, then jump and BAir; if done properly, you should retain your momentum going forward) your BAirs. To separate the ICs, grab Popo and then time your grab attacks (pummels) so that you knock Nana out.

yea i did notice alot of tilts in this battle:(
lately i've discovered that the jab into tilt/grab into tilt ,doesn't work lol
i stopped doing that
and yea,i should have done more pummeling at times
as i said before,it doesn't really come up in my mind, when i grab someone
i just throw them D:,ima try to remember next time!!:dizzy:

you're right,it was on wifi
,the bthrow-> dash attack is hard to do at times, still working on it

Thank you^_^

Bthrow then dash does good against heavies as well, I have done so against numerous heavies like Ike, Ganon and ddd. Its a matter of them timing how to power shield it

There's number one so far. If you could criticize me as I get two and three that'd be great.
Don't be afraid too be too cruel either, I can take it.
Sorry for the non time specific critique (Very hard to on the Wii), but Ill rate in general.

First off, Id like to know if that was on or offline (would explain a few things). At the start you should of been a tad more aggressive, but you were punishing pretty good, and using ur jab cancels well, but u should try to use it, grabs, and even finishes (Utilt and such) at high percentages to keep ur foe guessing, rack up more damage, or kill him (you also probably could of pummeled more before finishing the combo. Your Eruption almost got him (mainly since IMO Falcon made a horrible recovery choice), and u gave him lots of time to not get hit by it. I smiled when u caught the Dtilt spike, but 2nd time around (and basically in general) a walk off Fair or Dair (Dair a bit more situational cuz of its one narrow hitbox) is a better choice for finishing him. Im not sure if ur Fsmashes were good or not, some seemed random, some seemed like punishes (again why I wanna know on or offline). You have a pretty good Ik....Oh, 1 more thing..

Spacing. It wasnt terrible mind you, but specially with ur Fair, you were either in his face and could be punished (tho this Falcon seemed to never have the chance honestly ^^; ) or you missed by a huge margin, which potentially can also leave u opened to be punished. Anyway Hink, id say you actually have a pretty good Ike.

Yeah I agree with spacing, something I'll need to work on, along with the off stage stuff.

The ones vs CF were online. There's two more, the 2nd one is vs Snake offline.

EDIT: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQWcULhhPqU Number two. Please rate as soon as you can, it's an offline match, and that player is better than me so maybe you can make suggestions easier

After 3 jabs don't try to grab UNLESS they are stupid and SDI into you. jab to downtilt is not good considering how slow Dtilt is:) At about 1:09 you should have done a ledge Hopped Up air

Dang Its hard to type fast on the wii.:(

hinkage Match 2 (vs. Snake)

0:22 - After some nice jab cancels, you went for the grab rather than the jab combo. Going for the grab is okay, but you messed up your spacing a little; watch carefully how they DI, and if your opponent gets out of the range like that then dash a little before the grab instead.
0:24 - Accidental jab -> DTilt?
0:31 - You should've used dash attack while he was laying out the mine; if you hit him in the middle of the animation then it isn't planted, and even if it was planted you would've had enough time to buffer a roll and avoid it.
0:56 - Rather than come down with a FAir, NAir probably would've been the better choice; even though your opponent had about 30-some damage, Snake is very heavy; NAir might've been able to set you up for some more hits.
1:10 - It's possible to SDI out of Snake's DAir (and his FAir, for that matter); see this video for more details. It's annoying to learn, but the payoff is massive.
1:14 - After your jab clashed with his USmash, you just stood there as though you were surprised; when that happens, just whip out another jab. Also, if your opponent spotdodges, you should use a quick attack like UTilt rather than the comparatively-slower FTilt.
1:29 - You did it before, but in my opinion you should always throw out a jab before doing a full jab combo (jab (cancel) -> jab combo), since it's a true combo and adds some more damage; everything counts in the long run when you have no projectiles to chip on damage.
1:52 - FTilt isn't quick enough to punish a whiffed grab; you should've jabbed or UTilt'd there.
1:54 - You should've jab -> jab combo'd here, or go for a jab -> UTilt/BAir for the kill.
2:06 - UTilt is surprisingly fast; it's hitbox comes out on frame 13 (source), which is as fast as Ike's DSmash. You waited just a little too long before using it.
2:18 - Ike pressures his opponent best on a platform; rather than staying on it, you should've dropped down and waited for his reaction, punishing with either a BAir or UAir.
2:33 - Needs more jab -> jab combo.
2:35 - If you know your opponent is going to airdodge on the way down, you can go for a heavier-hitting move than a grab; UTilt or FTilt would've worked nicely.
2:46 - Messed up jab cancel?
2:49 - You had tried stalling out with the get-up attack earlier in the match; your opponent took note of this and guessed you would do it again.
2:53 - Again, try to keep an eye on your opponent's DI and know where Ike's grab range is. Nice jab canceling though, you went for the jab -> jab combo this time.
2:56 - If you see your opponent rolling away from you, you should release the USmash as soon as possible to make it slightly harder for them to punish you.
2:58 - Good; you realized that he was reading your get-up attack and rolled behind him instead.
3:06 - Instead of just BThrowing and standing there, you should at least try to go for the BThrow -> dash attack combo.
3:07 - You called his airdodge, but you were a little too quick on the punish; you should've used FSmash, which has a greater chance of hitting him because of it's considerably bigger hitbox.
3:21 - Instead of baiting his airdodges and then going back to the ground and UTilting, you should bait his airdodges and punish them with UAir; it's considerably easier to do if you're jumping up to them, and the UAir comes out surprisingly quickly (comes out in frame 15 on the backside).
3:33 - You seemed like you weren't sure if he would airdodge or not, but then you came in for the grab too late and got punished.

General comments: You can be more confident about your predictions; a lot of the times, you predicted correctly but could've punished with a harder-hitting move like USmash or FSmash. Also, you mis-timed some of your punishment attempts; try using USmash and UTilt more over FTilt, since they stay out for longer, thus giving you more room for error. Try using QD as an approach less when you're coming to the ground; your opponent didn't really punish for it very well, but he could've just run up with a shield, then drop it and FTilt or UTilt you. Also, use jab -> jab combo more frequently, once you get more fluent at jab canceling; every little damage counts when playing against Snake.

EDIT: You can also jab -> UTilt/BAir Snake fairly easily compared to other characters. Jab -> BAir can be easily performed by buffering a turn (lightly tap the opposite direction you're facing) and then short-hopping the BAir; it's like you're crouch canceling by turning around (but lightly so that you don't run away as you turn).

Ok, thank you very much for taking the time to write all that out. The reason I'm not so aggressive is because when I used to be I got nade'd to death. (No johns). Also thanks for some advice on the throws and noticing the parts where I stood there. (I was surprised >.>) The only reason I go for the grab when they're falling a t low percents is because I know no one can spot dodge/roll dodge as soon as they land, they can only shield. On high percents I'll do what you suggested though. I read over your comments and will make an effort to improve. I saw myself as well how it was wrong. Thanks to everyone else who helped too btw

I'll do Dante 710's first match.

I must admit that you started out brilliantly. After around 25 or 30 seconds ICs started to come back into the match but you regained your composure (somewhat) and finished the match well. All I'd really suggest to you is to incorporate more Jab cancels and mixups from them. Jab->Bair, Utilt, etc. Also, more Bair all around. Shield cancelling your run is also good to use instead of turning in the middle of the run and sliding due to the momentum.

You're definitely good, no doubts about that but I feel that you looked even better because your brother doesn't seem to have a proper grasp of ICs. I suggest he learn them a bit more...

30: Don't use Aether unless you know it is going to hit them far away from you. Considering it has a lot of landing lag.
2:18 Don't use Aether by a slanted edge. (Obviously)

Not much to say on the first video. Sonic is a bad match-up for Ike. Specially one of BT's caliber.

I'll get to dissecting Silven's matches later. I've skimmed through the matches (I just find Sonic matches boring, no offense intended), and the biggest tip that I can come out with off the top of my head is that you can tech Sonic's DThrow before he actually throws you (when he initially slams you into the ground before he rolls on you). I haven't tried it out myself, but a lot of people were discussing it in some thread that I can't find right now. It's difficult to pull off because you have to be expecting the throw in order to tech it, but if you do you should be able to punish Sonic with a free jab at the very least.

There were 3 times where you could have QD'd sonics down b. I lost to Kai in tournament and he said that if you QD sonic's down b, you can jab combo before sonic can react. I wish i knew that before the tourney.

If you rely on QD to stop his spindash too much, he can just bait you into starting QD by charging and then canceling the charge with his shield; then you're in trouble.

Oh I know. But you can only cancel the forward b dash and they make different noises after like 1-2 seconds and when he approaches with you ex) he moves towards you, he can't cancel, so a QD possibly could work. He used more than 1 down b, I just said three because there were 3 chances to notices that a down b was charging and Quick draw would have prevented it.

Plus you can obviously charge your quick draw, if he ends up cancelling he can't just shield, he jumps you release and you are in a better position then hitting his shield.

(It's going to be weird, critiquing someone who's so good... you've probably went back and noticed your mistakes already, but here goes nothing.)

Silven vs Blue Terrorist Match 3

0:35 - You screwed up your spacing on the NAir and landed right on top of his shield. From experience, Ike's NAir isn't safe to use against shields and it's also a bad idea in general to land on the ground in front of your opponent; you should've tried DI'ing off the stage and going for the edge, in my opinion.
0:43 - I personally don't like walk-off FAir; it's too slow and telegraphed for my taste, and his damage was too low for it to be of much use except for tagging on damage. I think an attempt at a dash attack would've been the better option here.
0:52 - Jab -> NAir is often going to miss; at middle %s, I don't think the NAir would've set up for much anyway. Jab -> grab or jab -> jab combo would've been better here, I think.
0:53 - I'm just going to assume the FSmash was a technical error.
0:56 - Your opponent is the type that punishes you for when you land; he hasn't tried to hit you from the air unless it's to follow up from a spin dash. Eruption wasn't a good choice here, since he's not the type that would blindingly fall for it out of aggression.
1:17 - Airdodging is better than using an aerial for momentum stalling, as explained by Kirk in this thread.
2:40 - You airdodged to get back to the ground and you got punished; you had mixed up airdodging with NAir'ing earlier in the match, but during your entire second stock up to this point you haven't been using NAir at all unless he's near by and you're trying to hit him, not ward him off.
3:05 - Again, another airdodge and another FSmash by BT.
3:15 - You expected him to think you would airdodge, and you punished him for it; my mistake if you were trying to condition him into expecting airdodges.
3:53 - He read your airdodge and punished accordingly.
3:56 - You had invincibility frames; why did you airdodge when you can try going on the offensive with a NAir?

General comments: Airdodging might have worked in earlier matches, but in this match he was able to punish you fairly consistently with FSmashes and even killed you with DSmash. FAir'ing him that one time worked; you should've continued to attack rather than airdodge to keep him guessing more. A lot of the times when you were hit by spindashes on the ground, it was probably just because of match-up inexperience (seriously, who plays Sonic?); I'm not going to say much here, because this is a problem that can be remedied only by playing and because I don't really know what Sonic can do anyway.

The most helpful thing I can point out to you is that you should try teching Sonic's DThrow more, not only after he throws you but also before he starts rolling into you. Again, I haven't tried it out myself, but it was discussed in a thread in the General Brawl Discussion before, so I'm sure that you can do it (with Wolf's too, apparently).
