I remember when m2k stole my laptop at herb2, he left himself logged into meebo. I got to watch people IM him. He got IMs from like thirty distinct people, all congratulating him on recent wins or asking him how to do particular tech skill things or asking him how the tournament was going, if he thought he was gonna beat hbox, etc. He gets IMs all day like that because he represents the community.

I can see him getting home from whatever and seeing 80 unread IMs on AIM and snarling and being like "grrr, stupid people" and turning the computer off, acting like a pro football player or something. That's how I want to see the best in the world, too; justifiably arrogant. Mango just seems like some kid and he certainly wouldn't/doesn't take that attention the same way.

I like Mango more, because I think he represents the top echelon of play far more humorously. Mango is arrogant, knows he's great at the game, and he's not afraid to tell you that to your face. M2K is a world weary recluse who juans when he loses. I mean, I've talked to him a few times, and he's a decent enough person; he just never seems to me to be a "top level player" in mindset. And, imo, Mindset will always be more important than personal skill.

@gofg. Yeah well pretty much all kids act that way, and rankings depict the BEST players, not someone's desired representation of the smash community.

what do you expect man? It's a 15 year old kid put in the video game spot light with a bunch of older guys that he thinks is cool all kissing his ***. How can you blame him?!?! lol.. As I said though, I agree with you in finding a lot of them annoying, but the argument you're trying to make is non-existent. Older dudes just need to set better examples..

M2k is the man btw. I used to msg occasionally him 4 years ago saying that I would destroy him ganon v. marth, and that he better be able to tech 5 dair spikes consecutively or he has no chance.... we'd have nice convos hahahah

He didn't start beating ken till early 07, making him probably sixteen. I remember having similar sentiments that I have about mango now, about him then.

Also, mango got famous playing puff. :/

as far as my argument being nonexistent, i was not seriously instructing people to start ranking him ahead of mango just because I wish that were true.

edit: does this seriously mean that Ken was the only bestintheworld who started out an adult?

If you don't like him, that's fine and well just don't listen to him. I tend to just pay attention to the people that I like. Maybe you should do the same.

I don't see why being an adult representing the scene is so bad. Everyone who is, or has been, the best has been playing for several years, so they will understand the game well and will have loads of experience when they start to break out and do well.

I think the exception might be Ken, who started to beat really good players in 03. I dunno how he did that.

I listed pp and shiz tied for a reason.... it would be unjust to put one over the other, in either case, imo. But in the end you'd have to put shiz slightly higher still, currently, even though I still hold pp in the regard as the guy to take him out.

a cool, hip, arrogant 20-something who gives half his winnings to his mom

or some kid who throws hundreds of dollars into the crowd after winning a tournament with jigglypuff, and is still in high school and has to get his parents' permission to go to tournaments.

i'm saying maybe if we all think about it hard enough we can make it come true.

I've gotta pop in and say that Zhu is definitely top 3 Falcos. That guy is amazing. My list goes something like this:

Mango
Shiz
Zhu
PP
Chops

PC not included because I think of him as a Fox main.

And my Falcon list goes something like

Darkrain
Hax
SS
Scar

Adam would be 5th on my list if he was a Falcon main. I think Hax/SS/Scar are fairly close but Darkrain is the best no question.

Also, not that it matters at all, but why am I not even in the SUPER DUPER important honorable mentions section? I go even with everybody from 5th and down in friendlies and I got 9th at Bill's. No love.

And I should definitely be listed as first on the NC Hype Power Rankings. I would be second to Chocolate Thundaaa but he's VA now. ;]
