I still think that squirtle would have been a poor addition on its own, but I like the idea him being put in the same character as two other starters a lot better. Lucario actually would suck compared to how cool this character is... Squirtle wins.

don't even try rationalizing it, blacklight. when you win a match, it's Pokemon Trainer who gets the win, not Squirtle. They are nothing more than living special attacks for Red.

1. We DON'T know who "wins" the fight. It could very well be the trainer and who ever is out at the time.

2. Pika has to have a animation to hold items right? These characters have to have animations to do just about anything Pika or any other character can do (no Bv) right? How does that make it a special attack? it's 3 characters in one. . . .they just want you to swhich between them like a trainer should.

They aint just attacks, they are taking Zelda to the next level FROM melee. (As in, Zelda was hurt badly because people only wanted Sheik right? Well this FORCES you to play as the transfomations.)

A "playable" character is one you PLAY as, and you CONTROL SQUIRTLE YOURSELF WITH YOUR CONTROLLER.

Squirtle is in, and Squirtle is PLAYABLE despite (IMHO) huge odds against him. In the end, that's what really matters. If you were vehemently opposed to his inclusion before in this thread, suck up your loss like a real man and move on.

The pokemon selection is considered an attack

that in itself if the lamest possible way you could play him. And "playable character" in Smash Bros. jargon refers to a selectable characters.

the three pokemon are virtually just attacks that trainer uses.

Being, "new" and "cool" is not necesarilly what u need to make it into the all star rumble.

Being "known" doesn't mean much, & this game isn't meant exclusively for them. Besides, being unknown didn't stop Marth & Roy from appearing, & many characters come from franchses not well known, or feature someone not well known. For example, many who didn't play F-Zero, or Earthbound, or Ice Climbers, & now practically everyone knows them due to their inclusion in Smash.

If there is any reason Lucario shouldn't be in Brawl it's because Pokemon Diamond/Pearl hadn't been released when Brawl began development....Even Lucario's movie debuted after Brawl was announced in 2005. OF course the obvious counter to this arguement is Roy in Melee, but still....

Brawl was ANNOUNCED then... but Sakurai didn't start taking character suggestions until a full year later.

Sakurai started 5 months after E3 05 when Brawl was annoucned. In those 5 months he plained the game out and hired folks.
I don't see him not including characters in the plaining stage.
I think the suggestions where more for insight than "OK, lets start the character making at this point". He could have picked characters and still have tooken suggestions after his personal picks.

Seriously, this as is crazy as saying that Ike deconfirms Marth, or that Rumble Falls deconfirms the Ice Climber's.

Yeas hes confirmed, but all of you squirtle supporters wanted him solo, by himself, so technically no one wins, its kinda 50/50, but since hes IN the game playable in some form, u guys get 60 while we 40...

That still doesnt mean Lucario is out of picture, he can still be added, I highly doubt were only gonna have 1st gen pkmn, or just the pkmn characters revealed so far.... Lucario still has a shot...

Even when pokemon still sells..... the franchise is somewaht losing popularity.

Pokemons like Lucario, are from the not so famous series.... so is better to simply use the legendary ones like squirtle, charizard and ivysaur..... which reminds everyone the glory days of the franchise!.

seriously the newest gen did very well, more than the 3rd gen Im guessing, and believe me its ****ing popular over there in japan, munchlax and lucario, and with the returned of a buffed mewtwo, it would be a good roster of the pokemon series...

it lowers lucario's chances because up until now everyone said "lucario is in, and every other pokemon can suck my n()75" and now we get to point and laugh at them. especially with everyone saying "we need more 4th gen rep" and i think now it is obvious what gen is getting the most rep.

you have a point nergal, i mean when AT's were confirmed we all thought it set a bar for who got in and who didn't, and now it feels like PT broke this bar in half and threw it at us, so now we can assume or expect nothing, and that is how it decreases lucario's chances, because now you CAN'T say he is a definite.

@ ClarkJables I don't really see the logic. Sakurai is unpredictable. Just because all playable Pokemon that have been confirmed so far are first generation doesn't mean that ALL Pokemon that make it will be first generation.

Seriously ever heard: "Best for last?" theyre not gonna show the best characters for brawl just yet, if that were the case, sonic and ridley would already be confirmed.... anyway, pokemon is nintendos 2nd or 3rd best franchise, im sure its getting about 4-5 reps this time around, believe me Lucario aint out of the woods, until they show 4-5 pokemon characters without lucario, then u can start laughing...
