Again remember one thing is the matchup as the theory, and how well one as a player knows the matchup and vice versa.


Still what I'm trying to say is things can vary depending on player's experience in the matchup.

But it also determines how much of a ****** the marth wats to be.

Does he play defensive( i cant see how retreating double fairs could be beat by luigi)?
Does his UP+B EVERY TIME you touch his shield?
How well does he ledge hog and gimp?


IMO, match-ups should be written as:

PLAYER XYZ and PLAYER ABC are at the HIGHEST level with thier respective character(best luigi vs best marth) and both KNOW how each of the two characters work(bth have plentry of luigi and marth exp).........now who has the advantage? In this case, id say marth is 65 and luigi is 35. Because marth just has more answers to luigi then luigi has to marth. yes luigi can combo but marth can space better and if he TIPS......not good.


but i wil admit i am not a luigi expert so i may be off on some things.

Chill Kev, it's hypocritical to say you have a right to voice your opinion and then in the same breath bash others when they do the same. We can all say what we want as long as it doesn't break rules, yes; I don't think anyone will argue that. But if someone such as Straked gets hot-headed and complains about your complaints, you don't have to stoop to that level either. You can just as well ignore his posts.

One problem with my Luigi is that I always go for a Jab Grab instead of an FJP. Even with Peach and Zelda, I forget they can't block it, and miss many many opportunities to firecrotch them. Anyway, if they always block, then they're always open for a Jab Grab. Go for it.

I bashed him because he told me to ''shut up''. That isn't an opinion, but rather an impolite statement written in imperative form. He was the first to insult me.

What I've been trying to say is that basically, Straked had the choice between ignoring what I said, or politely asking me to stop. He chose to be an *** and insult me instead, and look where we are now.

Keep Brawl Bashing out of the Brawl boards, or things will be killed.

Are you guys dyslexic or just blind? I didn't bash Brawl, I merely spoke of the virtues of Brawl+, vBrawl is a fun game, just not as much so for me and others, but I didn't even flame it to begin with.

Marth's retreating fAirs get's beaten out by Luigi's retreating SH dAir/fAir Fireball; this is the type of thing knowing the matchup can earn you. Due to the quickness of Luigi's attacks, he has a better chance than most other characters to shield and punish Marths OoS Dolphin Slash. Yar, Marth can guard the ledge well, but inexperienced Marths in the Luigi matchup might incorrectly chase Luigi far offstage where Luigi will outlive them, which is something else knowing the matchup can give you.

It's absurd to say that matchup experience isn't needed and that Marth can play "as usual" to everyone. Otherwise, there wouldn't be so many matchup threads.

Nah you got it right, not off anywhere.. good example of this is.. play a little NEO on wifi.. now.. lol.. he used to get his **** wrecked now he found out his problem by playing zhao everyday on wifi so he literally makes the matchup look 7/3 now by reducing your options completely.

but in my experience i find it like 4/6 or 5/5 Marth, probably because most marths play it wrong lol, and l always powershield/bait everything but of course a good marth will catch on . it's fun wrecking marths and psing them

'Sup Luigi Boards.

I'll be representing both Yoshi and Luigi at my upcoming Tournament I'm going to attend, and I play a pretty beast Luigi, I mained him in Melee, so Luigi is very familiar and I've had the basics for a while now...

But, I want to learn more about certain situational aspects and general difficulties in matchups, what to expect, etc...etc... so I'm familair and knowledgable about performing in Tournaments/Friendlies and engaging in discussions on SmashBoards because Luigi is my permanent secondary/main. I'll be reading the TL;DR thread on matchups now.

I'll be writing up a thread pretty soon, about luigi being secondaried, hopefully the many people who want a legit counter against those pesky Diddy Kongs, Olimars, sometimes Warios, and sometimes Snakes (real effort here), and actually Falco too as well. But he's ticked off by popular characters, like MK, (snake), Marth, D3, and sometimes GaW. But then again that's why many players who main such as Snake who have a hard time such as Olimar have come to get Luigi as a secondary which is why l'll be making a thread.

Expect it real soon.

I dunno, The only person on that list I see Luigi passing is Peach, and very unlikely DK. But with hard work...who knows?

what my post said was that BOTH players KNOW the match-up and have adjusted accordingly. I believe its CLEARLY in marth favor.

like ganon vs samus. EVEN if both players know the match-up, samus WILL ALWAYS WIN.

Agreed, that's why I stated "vice versa" in the beginning dunno if you use that term in the US though...

I live in the Southern Part of Virginia...Hampton/Virginia. Kadaj stays in Norfolk/Virginia...It's like a 10 minute drive from his house to mine

With Luigi, Marth is harder than MK due to the fact that Marth has more knockback and gimping capabilities...

Sure, MK can gimp as well but you have more of a chance coming back to the stage from a shuttle loop rather than getting countered or spiked...

UpB connects more common on MK than Marth as well...PS Shuttle to UPB and all that good stuff

The only time I land UpB on Marth is either from some crazy unplanned combo or blocking the first 3 hits of Swords Dance...

besides that, mk is basically pumped up version of marth, and not all mks need to shuttle loop luigi, they just need a simple dair and luigi's finished. marth on the other hand, if he goes offstage, hes risking himself a 5/5 getting gimped, or get gimped, only good marths will take the risk and know how to gimp it by heart, but instead they'll just use their ledge trap zoning tools from there.

imo mk and marth are just about the same, but not snake ugh lol.

I live in Petersburg, so about 2 hours away from you guys.
